- General Director von Ulrich is determined to introduce the American working pace at his office. The first to get fired is his secretary; she's replaced by stenographer Sui Sachs. On a business trip to Paris, feelings evolve on both sides.

- Friends Franz and Bela work in a deli belonging to Mr. Wallis. Franz is the manager and Bela a salesclerk. Both get to know the lovely Lilo. But while Bela is rebuffed, the charming womanizer Franz is more successful. After a boisterous celebration in the deli, Mr. Wallis tells Franz to get lost and hires Lilo as a new salesperson. Franz and Bela take a job at Mr. Markow's deli across the street and a serious competition begins between the two delis for survival.
- In the very oldfashioned town of Ostend suddenly 13 suitcases are delivered to the hotel, with a note, that O.F. will be here soon and needs 6 rooms (the hotel just has five). This event, probably the biggest in 300 years, starts a small wave of modernisation, yet everybody is wondering who O.F. is. Journalist Stix and architect Stark have an idea how to use this event. They proclaim, that O.F. is a former citizen of the town, who became a millionaire abroad. They tell their fellow citizens that the town still needs modernisation, like better hotels, nightclubs, shops, etc. And soon, Ostend is a boomtown, then a capital. The architect, responsible for the new buildings is finaly allowed to marry the mayor's daughter, while Stix marries the cabaret star and the widowed mayor his new secretary. The only problem is, O.F. hasn't shown up, while finance experts from all over the world are trying to solve the depression problem, that is non-existant in Ostend, this soon lets the people forget about O.F.
- An impression of the state of the world in 1929, contrasting similarities and differences in religion, customs, art and entertainment from all over the world. The film is constructed like a symphony.
- Toni Hofer and brothers Vicki and Nicki Mahler are working on a new operetta. Toni's reputation with women equals his fame as composer, so they keep their sister Hedi away from him. Wanting to know him, she calls at his house in the middle of the night not revealing her identity, helps him write the main waltz theme and disappears, leaving him incapable of remembering his greatest melody. - Fred von Wellingen is a wealthy industrialist, part of a large family-owned corporation. Fred has fallen for Lia, a comely bartender in the Berlin Cabaret. He proposes to her, much to the horror of his family, which considers Lia and her unsophisticated father far below their caste. The family convinces Fred to give up the girl in exchange for increased position and income in the company. But Fred's lapse is momentary, and he again pursues Lia. But she, by this time, has learned of his erstwhile agreement and has agreed to marry someone else.

- Reaching 40, Elsie is watching her girl friends one by one taking a lover. She happens to meet young student Jörgen who is dazzled by her cosmopolitan air. Elsie wants to divorce her husband, but the age gap between Elsie and the student becomes an issue.
- A husband takes his wife to a nightclub in Berlin. While there he breaks the news to her that he thinks they should divorce, and leaves her with a young girl on his arm. Angry and humiliated, the wife picks up a young nobleman and takes him home with her. Unfortunately, he turns out to be an international con man who drugs her drink and steals her jewelry. Luckily, the police have been following him and arrest him before he can get away. Meanwhile the husband is starting to have second thoughts about leaving his wife. Complications ensue.
