- Finding his friend, whom Galen seeks in the village, gone, the newcomer to town secures his friend's old position of soda clerk in a drug store. There are incidents leading up to Galen being forced to deliver ice cream to the home of a village belle who is giving a party and has refused to allow her girl friend to ask the soda clerk to come as a guest. It happens, however, that just as Galen is leaving he sees his girl being annoyed by an outsider, known to the sporting world as K. O. Kelly, champion welter weight. One blow from Galen and out goes Kayo, which interests Kayo's manager to the extent that he keeps an eye on Galen, with a purpose.

He is befriended by The Bee Master, who is ill and soon dies. Jamie inherits half of the estate and apiary, with the other half going to "Little Scout," an 11-year-old girl who dresses as a boy. He marries a girl about to drown herself because she is to bear a child out of wedlock; his "wife" disappears immediately afterward, leaving a note signed "Alice Louise MacFarlane." With the aid of a neighbor, Margaret Cameron, Jamie soon recovers his health. He is notified that his "wife" has given birth to a son, but when he arrives at the hospital Jamie discovers another woman wearing his ring. She dies, and Molly Cameron (Mrs. Cameron's daughter), the girl he really married, appears and confesses that she married Jamie to get her sister Alice a wedding ring and a marriage certificate to protect her reputation. All ends well, and Jamie remarries Molly.
- On his way to collect inheritance in the small town on Hot Dog, Stan gets robbed by highwaymen, one of which is the other person who shall attend the reading of their late Uncle's will. The reading of the will states Stan will get everything, including 'The Last Chance Saloon', but in the case of Stan's death, the saloon will be split between Bad Mike and his friend. Stan nows flees town, but gets on Bad Mike's horse, which takes him to Bad Mike's house. Bad Mike and his gang arrive at the house, after robbing the saloon. They soon hear Stan, and an epic gun battle follows, with the town Sheriff not far behind.
- José Fernand, leader of a gang of bootleggers, has designs on Helen Barnes, a shop girl who supports her delicate sister, and with the aid of Olive Wood, an adventuress, he lures the sisters to a supposed yachting trip. At sea, Helen is attacked by Fernand and dashes to the wireless operator for assistance, but a storm arises and an SOS is barely sent before the ship sinks. An ocean liner, picking up the call, starts for the rescue, and Jack Seville, Helen's sweetheart, a Navy aviator, comes by plane. The sisters and Fernand are cast up on an island and are there sheltered by a hermit, its only inhabitant. Seville and his pilot make a forced landing, and following a struggle between Seville and Fernand the entire party is rescued by the ocean liner.
- A young woman's past casts a dark shadow over her future happiness with the man who loves her; how much of her past should she tell him?
- Margaret has given up her stage career to marry inventor Jerry Benson. Jerry fails to impress oil executive William Graves with his idea, but Margaret has better luck when she catches Graves' attention and she both makes the sale and becomes the object of Graves' obsession. Profits from the invention make the Bensons wealthy; however Graves schemes to steal Margaret from Jerry by swindling them out of their money and getting Broadway floozy Gloria to break up their marriage.
- During the World War, Donald Allen is reported killed in action but is really a victim of amnesia. His French nurse, Suzanne, gives him a new identity (John Rolfe), and they marry. Together they get jobs as servants on Donald's estate, now in the hands of Corinne, his ex-fiancée. He is recognized, and after an operation he regains his memory but forgets his wife. Corinne, in the meanwhile, attempts to run off with some of Donald's money but is foiled by Suzanne. Donald finally recognizes his wife.
- "Red" Wade, a star high-school football player, has intentions of going to Claxton College, which has a powerhouse football team, but changes his mind when he meets the sister of the pitiful Paramlee team and goes to college there, just as his father, an alum of the school, had wished. But his father has ordered him not to play football. "Dad" Wade, has offered a $100,000 endowment to his old school, not knowing his son has joined the football team, but is going to withdraw it if his son plays in the Big Game against Claxton. This puts "Red" between a rock and a hard place.
- The assistant foreman of the San Francisco Chronicle press-room, Tom MacDonald is passed over for the post of foreman in favor of a younger man. He gains satisfaction, though, when his son, Ray, obtains a good job in the district attorney's office. Reporter Clarence Walker, in love with MacDonald's daughter, Polly, is sent to obtain evidence against notorious bootlegger Sam Blotz, who is protected by Assistant District Attorney Gerald Fuller. Blotz and Fuller frame Ray to put Walker off their track. Although his conscience bothers him, Walker reports the story in time for the last edition. MacDonald attempts to stop the presses, and when Blotz's henchman, "Red" Moran, blows up the building, MacDonald is blamed and put in jail with his son. Walker eventually uncovers evidence exonerating the father and son, MacDonald is made foreman, and a new newspaper plant is built.
- A saxophone player Clyde, who busks on the San Francisco Bay waterfront. One night, he meets Flowers, and teaches her to dance, but finds that "Blackjack", the leader of a ruthless gang, is also in love with her.
- A police inspector "solves" a crime that, in fact, might not have occurred at all.
- Slim Ranthers objects to the development of an irrigation project on his ranch and incurs the enmity of those involved in it. Max Underly, Slim's rival for the affections of Bess Livingston, has Slim unjustly accused of cattle rustling. Since the accusation does not deter Slim, Max and his men ambush him at night, wounding him in the arm. Slim eventually defeats Max and wins the affections of Bess.
- The story treats of a wealthy girl portrayed by Lois Boyd who owns the hotel in town and the attempts made by a notorious crook who inveigles her into a phony elopement. The crook's Wife becoming wise, complicates matters and the fat men who play tho part of bell boys in the a picture certainly give the heavy an awful time. Finally they save the girl from the villain and all ends well.
- Raoul Lesage suspects his wife, April, of infidelity with Herman Bennett, an artist, and forsakes her, living for the next 20 years in a hermitage surrounded by high walls. He is accompanied in this solitary life only by his young son, Paul, who, at the age of 21, has not seen anything of women or the world. One night, Paul walks in his sleep and wanders from his home. He falls into the company of his mother (whom he does not recognize), Bennett, and Bennett's beautiful ward, Helen, with whom Paul soon falls in love. After a series of thrilling adventures, Paul foils Bennett and reunites his parents; he and Helen hear wedding bells.
- Joe Holland, the superintendent of a gold mine, saves his invalid friend, Weadon Scott, from a pack of wolves. Frank Wilde, an executive engaged to Holland's daughter, Mollie, buys White Fang, a man-eating dog, from an Indian and matches him with a bulldog in a pit fight. Scott rescues the dog and tames him. After Mollie Holland marries Wilde, she discovers that he is robbing the mine. Mollie tells Scott of Wilde's perfidy, but Wilde escapes, blackjacking Scott and killing Holland. Orphaned, Mollie goes to the home of Judson Black, the owner of the mine. Wilde attempts to spirit her away and is killed by White Fang. Scott and Mollie eventually find happiness together.
- Alice is dancing aboard her ship with a veritable zoo of a crew. Meanwhile, in the galley, the chef (a cat) is preparing food while his assistant, a mouse, is peeling potatoes. When the chef complains that they need eggs, the mouse is enlisted to retrieve them from the crow's nest. The birds there give him a rough time, but he's eventually able to capture one and strong-arm three eggs out of it. When he returns, though, he finds the chef now wants some milk, and so he's off to find the ship's goat, with similar comedic results.
- Lars Larson, a Swedish sea captain, returns home after a long voyage and finds that his wife, Anna, and their child have been kidnapped by Karl Kruger, captain of The Gretchen; bitter against the world, he becomes a smuggler. Twenty years later, the United States Navy is preparing for its epochal nonstop airplane flight from San Francisco to Hawaii. Owing to a fuel shortage the plane is forced to alight on the sea, where the commander and Jack Connell, second officer, keep up the crew's spirits; and while they are being sought by a battle fleet, the PN9 drifts to an uncharted desert island, where they find Jan Berg, an old sailor, and Marie Larson, who survived a shipwreck. Nevers falls in love with Marie, Larson's lost daughter. Aboard Larson's ship, Ah Wing, leader of some Chinese coolies, spies Marie on the island and determines to possess her; a battle ensues between the Chinese and the aviators and ship's crew. A Navy submarine arrives, and its crew aids in subduing the Chinese; Larson discovers that Marie is his daughter; and she is united with Jack.
- Hardhearted Kate Comstock has always resented her daughter Elnora because her husband Robert died in the quicksands of the Limberlost swamp when Elnora was born. Longing for her mother's love, beautiful Elnora is easily loved by everyone else, including neighbors Wesley and Margaret Sinton and the "Bird-Woman" of the swamp, who helps Elnora raise money by teaching her to capture moths and butterflies for sale. Elnora does well in high school, too, and when Philip Amon comes to the neighborhood to recover his health, they fall in love with each other. Unfortunately, Philip is engaged to Edith Carr, a high-spirited but jealous beauty. Elnora seeks to avoid conflict with Edith by staying with Freckles and his wife, who also live in the Limberlost, but when Elnora helps nurse Philip back to health, Edith leaves them free to marry. When Mrs. Comstock learns that her husband had been unfaithful to her with neighbor Elvira Carney, she finally discovers in herself a love for her daughter, and extends her affections enough to adopt the orphaned boy Billy and his dog.
- George and Stanley are competitors in a swimming race this time and as usual Stanley tries to pull some crooked work to prevent George from winning, but of course fails. The title, a travesty on a successful play, refers to the fact that Stanley hires a woman with this name to aid him by claiming she is George's wife.
- Adventurer Bill Gallagher comes into a town overrun by bandits, is elected sheriff by the townspeople, and succeeds in capturing the culprits with the aid of his horse, Silver King. He rescues Miss Grey, a lady minister, from bank president "Lily Finger" Burke, leader of the gang, formerly a barroom bouncer, and effects a romance with her.
- Mary's kid brother needs an operation and, in order to pay for it, Mary goes to a Hollywood studio and applies for a job as an actress. Mary is given a job as a waitress in the commissary, and gets to meet 40 actors, actresses and directors, none of whom tip big enough to enable Mary to earn enough money to pay for an operation. Will Mary become an actress and make some big money? Does corn grow in Iowa?
- Tom O'Day (Johnnie Walker) is in love with the stepdaughter of the trading post factor, who mysteriously dominates Tom's father. Jealous of Tom, The Factor (Harry Von Meter) exposes the father as a murderer, but Tom proves otherwise, thus clearing his father, convicting the factor, and winning the girl (Ruth Clifford).
- Corinne Adams, a young American girl touring Egypt, meets a British soldier, Maj. Egerton, in Cairo, and they fall in love. She doesn't know that the major is suffering from a terminal illness. They and some friends take a trip into the desert and are attacked by a Bedouin tribe. The women are captured and the major is knocked out and left for dead. Can British troops arrive in time to save the women from a fate worse than death?
- Tammany Burke, young owner of a giant roller coaster, is fighting heavy odds against a syndicate led by financial baron Hughey Cooper. Assisted by his sweetheart, Joan, and her father, Jingles Wellman, formerly a clown, Burke prepares for a sabotage of his machine by syndicate hirelings. In the midst of a great battle the riot squad arrives to arrest the troublemakers, and Burke and his sweetheart are left in happy possession of their roller coaster.
- American sculptress Adele La Rue, working in Paris, lacks the inspiration to create a masterpiece, until Jean Ballard, a wild apache leader, takes refuge from the police in her apartment. Adele saves him from capture on the condition that he pose as the model for one of her works. Adele and Jean fall in love, finding happiness with each other until Marie, Jean's former love, insults him by telling him he is no better than a rich woman's lap dog. Jean returns to the underworld and becomes involved in a gang war with a rival gang, the Wolves. Looking for Jean, Adele goes to a cafe he is known to frequent, where she is abducted by the Wolves. When Jean comes to rescue her, he is also captured. The Wolves heat knives with which to torture the reunited lovers, but before they can be used, the police arrive and open fire on the Wolves' hideout. During the excitement, Marie, who has joined the Wolves, repents of her hate and releases Adele and Jean. They jump from an open window just as the hideout is destroyed by artillery fire. Jean decides to repent, and the lovers look forward to a romantic future together.
- Alice Ardell portraying a feature role in this vehicle is about to be initiated into a sorority. One of the requirements of the initiation ceremony is that she don male attire. In this guise she is mistaken for a person of Royal Blood and the comedy centers about the mistaken identity of the prince and the flapper who is candidate for the Phi-Delta-Pie. Of course in the end everything is straightened out and both the girl and the prince achieve their object.
- Julius and Pete have a contest to swim across the English Channel, with Alice as the referee.
- A barge fight between Gale and the heavyweight, Red Mack, is broken up by the police.
- Sergeant Glenister of the Mounted Police, caught in the snows of the Northwest, is tended in a semiconscious state by Jack and Betty Danrock, who are fleeing from the police; at Rafferty's trading post Glenister again encounters the pair, but Betty disclaims having met him and poses as Jack's wife. Later, Dick is assigned to track down the murderers of Thorald's partner and captures the couple. Returning, they are caught in a forest fire, and Glenister is injured rescuing Jack; when he revives, the prisoners tell him their story and convince him of their innocence. Glenister discovers that Jack was tricked by an ingeniously placed mirror and that Thorald, the partner, is the murderer. Glenister forces him to confess.
- Helen Aldrich, a young American sculptress in Paris, has an unexpected adventure with a young Apache who visits her with the intention of obtaining her jewels, changes his mind and agrees to pose for her. They fall in love. Professor Aldrich, Helen's father, is the inventor of a death ray which is expected to accomplish great things in war. The secret is stolen and Helen's lover suspected of the theft. Helen starts out to prove his innocence. She does so, after meeting with a variety of adventures, clears the man she loves and effects the capture of the gang-leader.
- Aloysius Appleby, known as Ally, leaves his small town for Baldwin College and promises his Aunt Polly and Uncle Lish that he will not indulge in sports. Horatio Winston, a senior at the college, becomes jealous of Ally's powerful physique and plans to make him the college boob. Ally meets Angela Boothby (Horatio's girl), is immediately smitten, and pesters his roommate, Shorty Buzelle, for information about her. At a "pep" dance, the boys dress Ally in a ridiculous manner: he is severely ridiculed, and, at Angela's insistence, he promotes some respect with his fists. Pop Warren, the football coach, encourages him to try out for the team, in spite of his promise, and he is the hero of the first game. Later, when Ally refuses to play, Angela explains the importance of his playing to his aunt and uncle. They come to the game, and Ally goes in in time to save the team.
- Tom Granger is seen finding a boarding house preparatory to entering college. The presence of Nita O'Neill, the landlady's granddaughter, in a poorly furnished one dictates his choice. He meets her a second time when she is serving soda in her grandfather's store, and finds an enemy in Merton Randolph, who repeatedly insults him. They go to the Court, put on the gloves and have a terrific set-to which Tom finally wins. Then Nita and he walk home together.
- Si Henderson is the only mountaineer to get a job with the railroad when it starts coming through the West Virginia mountains. This development incurs the wrath of Jeb Slater, who keeps alive the century-old feud between the Slaters and the Hendersons. He tries to kill Si but shoots Mrs. Henderson instead. Dying, she makes Si and her son, David, promise to let the feud die with her. Years pass; David and Jeb's son, Mel, work together; but David lives in constant fear of Mel, who is a drunken bully. Both love Mary Baxter, but she cares only for David. Jeb is released from prison and wrecks the Midnight Flyer, crippling Si and thus forcing him to retire. David, on his first run as engineer, is tormented by Mel to the point of jumping off the train just before it hits a wagon. Both David and Mel are fired. Two detectives come to arrest Jeb; Mel kills one of them; and in a drunken rampage, Mel imprisons Mary and the superintendent, Kellogg, in a train and heads it on a collision course toward the Midnight Flyer. David, overcoming his fears, boards the train, defeats Mel in a fight, and stops the train.
- Stan Laurel stars as a tramp, "a fierce, fiery, fearless, two-fisted loafer." Trouble announces itself as a plate loaded with doughnuts on a windowsill. The farmer's daughter takes pity on him and Stan falls in love. Before the end there will be tears, broken dishes and more doughnuts.
- A vivacious young woman known only as Captain Joe captains a rum-runner operating between the Bahamas and the United States. Jerry Burke, a Secret Service agent assigned to the Bahamas to halt this illegal trade in rum, meets Captain Joe, whom he knows as Peggy O'Day, and falls in love with her, arousing the antipathy of Pietro, Peggy's first mate. Pietro later learns that Jerry is a government agent and kidnaps him, hiding him on Peggy's boat. Making a delivery to the mainland, the boat is then attacked by hijackers led by Pietro, who wound Peggy and take her boat, leaving behind Jerry and Peggy. Taking the hijackers' craft to a small island, Jerry sends a radio message for help to Peggy's father, a cashiered naval officer; Pietro intercepts the radio message, goes to the island, and forces Peggy and Jerry aboard the rum-runner. Peggy manages to send an S. O. S. signal to a U. S. warship before Pietro dynamites the boat. Peggy and Jerry survive the explosion and are picked up by a Navy warship; Pietro is captured, and Jerry uses his influence to have the elder O'Day cleared of the false charges that led to his disgrace. Peggy and Jerry make plans to be wed.
- Gale Galem, pugilistically known as "Six-Second" Smith, almost turns motion picture actor as a means of forcing "Red" Mack, the champ, into a fight.
- Alice and Julius are getting ready for their big performance at the circus while many of the other acts are being showcased. They are acrobats, with Julius balancing on a tightrope holding several stacked chairs, and Alice sitting atop the topmost chair. When Julius lights a cigar he accidentally throws the match onto the rope, burning it and sending them clattering to the ground.
- Gale's opponent in an important fight hires two goons to prevent Galen from showing up. The henchmen trap Galen and Judy on a Ferris wheel. If he doesn't get to the ring in time for the bout, he'll forfeit the fight.
- Mickey has decided that the kids should start their own movie studio and he naturally considers himself the most qualified person to take charge of production, and he should also play all the lead roles too.
- Heath Haldane (Houdini) tracks down a vicious gang of counterfeiters, narrowly missing death several times. He must rescue Adele Ormsby, whom he loves despite her pending marriage.
