- Angelos Vouteris is a working class man, performing minor repairs and service of cars at a gas station. He has few friends, no close family relations, and maintains a rather lukewarm romance with his neighbor Thaleia. By chance, he sees a photograph of Olga Katsilieri, a pretty young heiress, and grows infatuated with her. Deciding to meet Olga in person, Angelos uses a stolen invitation to infiltrate a high-society dance which she is likely to attend. He manages to intrigue her with his mysterious behavior, though he almost has a physical fight with two close male friends of Olga. Angelos dances with the girl of his dreams, and genuinely has the time of his life. While taking a bathroom break, Angelos jokes that he would gladly sell his life to the devil in order to live a rich life forever. Hell responds by sending the demon Beelzebul (nicknamed Voulis) to offer a contract with their company. Angelos rejects the offer, though Voulis keeps following him over the next couple of days. Olga eventually invites Angelos to a small get-together at her home. Angelos makes a bad impression due to his poor taste in clothing, unusually poor manners, and lack of foreign language education. But Olga seems interested in him. But a late-arriving guest at the gathering is Angelos' boss from the gas station. He reveals Angelos' real identity, causing Olga to figure that Angelos is a mere con-man who is toying with her emotions. They break-up their budding relationship, angry with each other. In a particularly bad mood, Angelos summons Voulis and negotiates a contract with hell. Before agreeing to the contract's terms, Angelos demands to see what life in hell is like. Voulis teleports him to hell. Angelos learns that hell looks like Earth, but is full of smog, endless traffic jams, and absurdly complicated bureaucratic rule. Figuring that hell is no worse than modern-day Athens and its problems, Angelos agrees to the contract. Following the contract, Angelos learns that he has won a few million drachmas at a lottery, though it will take a while until he receives them. Voulis (who is serving as his caretaker), teaches Angelos to dress better, while magically enhancing his vocabulary and skills. Voulis helps Angelos win a small fortune in roulette, while Angelos manages to impress Olga again with his improved looks and manners. When Angelos twice rejects Olga's friendly gestures, she punches him in the face. Shortly after they reconcile, and they spend their first night together at a hotel suit. Voulis starts feeling pity for mortals, and discovers the joys of voyeurism. He realizes that despite being a supposedly unemotional demon, he actually shares a number of human emotions and weaknesses. He fears that it will cost him his job at hell. Angelos breaks up with Thaleia, while treating her unusually cruelly. Voulis criticizes him over this behavior. Meanwhile, Voulis is romantically attracted to Thaleia's widowed sister. While discussing their emotional problems, Angelos and Voulis get drunk. In an arranged meeting with Olga's powerful father, Angelos arrives while drunk. He makes a rather bad impression, and the father reveals to Olga that her boyfriend has repeatedly lied about his past. Angelos gets angry and badmouths Olga and her entire family. While still drunk and angry, Angelos decides to take the car of his former boss for a joyride. He ignores Voulis' warnings that drunk driving is dangerous, and crushes the car right into a tree. Voulis manages to call for help, and Angelos wakes up in a hospital. When he recovers, Voulis informs him that Olga is sufficiently angry with him to refuse to even visit him. But Thaleia still loves him, and donated blood for his recovery. Voulis also reminds him that a term of the contract was that it was null and void if another human is willing to sacrifice herself for Angelos. Thaleia just fulfilled the term, and the contract is no longer valid. Having a different perspective on his life, and maintaining his wealth, Angelos proposes to Thaleia. He figures that she is the only person who truly loves him. Meanwhile, Voulis proposes to Thaleia's sister, ending his services to hell. Angelos suggests that Voulis can try gaining heaven's favor as a redeemed demon. They celebrate together, and the film ends.
