- A group of kids produce and star in their own music video show.
- The Kidsongs Kids are swept off to SillyDillyVille and the silliness begins! A walk "Down By The Bay" finds a llama in pajamas, a pet pig who wears a wig and a whale with a polka dotted tail! The kids are charmed when they meet "Jim Along Josie", a marvelous orangutan who has 20 different ways to make you laugh. The awards ceremony, with Hosts Vanessa Williams and Sinbad, was videotaped before a star-studded audience at the Paramount Theater in New York City on April 22, 1994.
- The 5th Essence Awards was a ceremony hosted by Oprah Winfrey and Denzel Washington that honored African-American women who have enriched society through their contributions to education, social policies, public services and the arts.

Honorees included Whoopi Goldberg, Kenneth "Babyface' Edmonds, high school student Ketrick Jordan, Oseola McCarty, an elderly benefactor of the University of Southern Mississippi, Carol and Hurt Porter of Houston, founders of Kid-Care Inc. and Rep. Maxine Waters. Performers included Boyz II Men, Toni Braxton, Bebe Winans, Chante Moore, D Angelo, Aretha Franklin, Cassandra Wilson, Patti LaBelle and Tony Rich
- A presentation of the Essence Awards, saluting outstanding African-American women. Ann Margaret was a presenter in this years show. The Essence Awards are the largest event celebrating African-American culture and music in the United States. In Louisiana, the Awards show is locally referred to as the Essence Fest, and the Awards show has been held in New Orleans, Louisiana every year since 1995 except for 2006, when it was held in Houston, Texas due to Hurricane Katrina. It features artists simultaneously performing on a main stage as well as four standing-room only, superlounge stages.

Shot at Madison Square Garden Theatre, honorees included Muhammad Ali, Marilyn Chamberlain, a Los Angeles woman who runs a home for people with AIDS, Bill and Camille Cosby, 1996 Olympic Gold Medal gymnast Dominique Dawes, and C. Kenneth Johnson. Whitney Houston received the first Essence Triumphant Spirit Award. Presenters included Oprah Winfrey & Quincy Jones.
