- Hustler ERIC COYLE, 19, has secured early release from prison by informing on his drug dealer, BENNIE. He immediately begins reassembling his former life, including girlfriend, HEATHER, former pimp, DOLORES and his best john, TOMMY. Desperate to create his idea of a family, if only even for a day, he manages to trick Tommy into getting him an apartment, a used car and a job and moves Heather in with him, but things quickly spin out of control when Bennie is brought in for questioning.
- MICKEY DOUGHERTY, 15, has a crush on OSCAR HEIM, 17, the son of the wealthy family next door. Oscar has a crush on Mickey's sister, TINA, 16. Fearing a burglary, Oscar's mother LINDA (Beth Grant -- Donnie Darko, Little Miss Sunshine) asks the Dougherty family to house-sit while they're at their daughter's wedding. Linda makes it clear that she doesn't want the Doughertys venturing beyond the family room, but once she's gone, Mickey invades Oscar's bedroom. Mickey builds a totem of Oscar out of Oscar's pants and shirts, seating the totem on the toilet and then touching it erotically. Distracted by his mother's drunken fall downstairs, Mickey hasn't dismantled the totem when the Heims return home early.
- ShortNewly-sober, MARTY is attending AA meetings at the Road to Recovery Clubhouse. The clubhouse is run by CLEMENT, a "star" sponsor with a strong track record for keeping his sponsees sober. But Marty notices that, with disturbing regularity, the "weakest links" among Clement's sponsees keep flaming out spectacularly-- overdosing, committing suicide-- and Marty suspects that Clement is deliberately giving the most vulnerable a subtle kick and a shove over the edge. Clement is essentially a serial killer, but one that could never be arrested. The latest victim is HARLAN, who slits his own throat near the coffee and donuts when Clement torments him and keeps from sharing at the meeting. The next victim, ALBERT, narrowly misses dying of alcohol poisoning, having a stroke while in an alcohol-induced coma. When he partially recovers-- broken and in a wheelchair-- he credits Clement for his survival, even thanking Clement for being sure his doctors don't under-prescribe his pain medications. Marty himself might be among those "weak links" that Clement is targeting but he's saved by DENISE, a bartender at Rooster's Lounge who acts as a guardian angel for some of her dying alcoholic customers. She and Marty work together to try to save RANDY, who is likely Clement's next victim. But Randy doesn't want their help, convinced that sobriety will make him "no fun" and lead to the collapse of his career as an internet entrepreneur. In the end, Marty publicly confronts Clement, looking like a maniac but possibly saving Randy from becoming Clement's next intended victim.
- After a lifetime in the film and TV industries, during which he wrote and produced over seventy-five movies and television shows, won the very first Emmy the night of the very first Emmy's, President of the Producers Guild of America for years, and one of the first Board Members of The Writers Guild Of America - Stanley- age eighty-eight - returns to UCLA to complete his undergraduate degree, left unfinished seventy years before. Stanley tells us about his childhood, parents, and the emotional scars he suffered as a result of his parents divorce. We meet Kathy his wife of fifty-two years and witness their humorous repartee as well as the deep love and commitment between them. Stanley tells great old Hollywood insider stories, involving everyone from Howard Hughes, Clint Eastwood, Marilyn Monroe, Otto Preminger, to Lew Wasserman. While interviewing Stanley and Kathy we inter-cut their interviews with their movies. We follow Stanley to UCLA while he tries on his cap and gown for graduation, and - for old times sake - visits the current editor in chef of the UCLA Daily Bruin, culminating with Stanley graduating.
