- In this 1995 made-for television biopic, see legendary musician and filmmaker Ivan Kral as he made music history. With guitar and camera in the 70s, playing with Iggy Pop, Blondie and Patti Smith Group, he triumphed, rising from refugee to rock icon. Born in Prague, he made music his life from an early age. When his parents uprooted the family to flee to New York in 1966, he left behind a newly hatched music career at the top of the Czech pop chart. He quickly took his place on the New York scene in the seminal days of punk rock playing and in many cases writing songs for punk legends in the making. He knew Iggy Pop, Blondie, Patti Smith, The Ramones, Television, Talking Heads, New York Dolls, Heartbreakers, Shirts, Wayne County, Robert Gordon and many more as they really were locals at CBGB. Its all on film, along with his return to Prague after the fall of Communism and his shaping of a new music industry for the Czech Republic. He conducted a living laboratory that was an entire nation with music panning every genre: rock, pop, jazz, theatre, cabaret and more. The same year the film was released, in 1995, Ivan won Czech Grammy Awards for best producer, best video and best song. The film includes a sneak preview of Ivan Krals The Blank Generation, Ivans backstage, as-it-happened home movies of the punk scene. Post punk, Ivan has continued his musical journey. The film takes him to a new life in Seattle. Today, he lives and works in Michigan. Film scores, songs, film production and more continue to fill his portfolio.
