Col Needham's Best Movies of 20105 of 10
My #6 pick: The King's Speech
This is a remarkable film and works on so many different levels. Colin Firth is amazing and deserves every award the industry can give him, but he is one part of an outstanding cast. It's a film about love, friendship and duty. It's a great historical record and a peek inside a story likely to be unfamiliar to much of the audience. It also has many genuinely funny moments which lighten what could have been a very dark film given the late 1930s setting. Superb camera work, great attention to detail in the production design/costumes and all masterfully directed by Tom Hooper. Finally, amazing use of music, particularly in the pivotal scene which gives the film its title. Seen at a special advance screening in London by UK distributor Momentum Pictures.
