- DirectorHal AshbyStarsRuth GordonBud CortVivian PicklesYoung, rich, and obsessed with death, Harold finds himself changed forever when he meets lively septuagenarian Maude at a funeral. This movie came out in the early 70's and still holds up today. With a strong story and excellent odd twists... It's a Great adventure with a true message. Hal Ashby's best with original Cat Stevens music to boot (music you can only get from the soundtrack - most not on any Cat Stevens Albums that is) this movie has stuck in my head from my childhood. Ruth Gordon rocks, and though his acting career was short lived Bud Cort was eerily perfect for this.
- DirectorAlan ParkerStarsBob GeldofChristine HargreavesJames LaurensonA confined but troubled rock star descends into madness in the midst of his physical and social isolation from everyone.Great music, great story and very artistically sound.
I'm actually surprised I haven't found this on Blu-Ray at the moment of this post.
If someone finds it, contact me please. I'll see this performed LIVE Dec. 2010 in L.A. LOOKING FORWARD TO IT!!! - DirectorRob ReinerStarsRob ReinerMichael McKeanChristopher GuestSpinal Tap, one of England's loudest bands, is chronicled by film director Marty DiBergi on what proves to be a fateful tour. What can I say, this is the best of many movies that this group of talented people have put together.
I can watch it a thousand more times and still be laughing... or at least resiting the dialogue. Coming from a musician's background, the first time I saw this I was almost a little depressed of how realistic some of their jokes were, that hit home in a big way.
Wow, even Billy Crystal was the head waiter in this... and did a great job. "Mime Is Money" Ya got to love it... - DirectorLasse HallströmStarsJohnny DeppLeonardo DiCaprioJuliette LewisA young man in a small Midwestern town struggles to care for his mentally-disabled younger brother and morbidly obese mother while attempting to pursue his own happiness.Wow, Johnny Depp was at his peak during this year of releases.... busy guy, and he chose wisely with these out of the main stream CLASSIC scripts. Even Leonardo Dicaprio played a role that in my opinion he'll never be able to top. Didn't he win an academy award for that role? If he didn't he should of, Johnny Depp as well.... Great story telling
- DirectorRobert RodriguezStarsHarvey KeitelGeorge ClooneyJuliette LewisTwo criminals and their hostages unknowingly seek temporary refuge in a truck stop populated by vampires, with chaotic results.this movie also just sticks in my head. Kind of a dark almost comedic well done b-movie. Cheech plays a great role, I actually really like the whole cast... even the cameo by the director. (Quintin)
Good movie for Halloween!!! (funny.. one of my longtime friends is quite prominent in the bar scene's ... I sometimes play the game "spot the chewy", chewy being his nickname) - DirectorTim BurtonStarsJohnny DeppWinona RyderDianne WiestThe solitary life of an artificial man - who was incompletely constructed and has scissors for hands - is upended when he is taken in by a suburban family.Again, as you can tell.... I like the abnormal quirky type films... not the big block busters necessarily. (although I give kudos to a few)
This is the movie that got me into Johnny Depp as a true artist and lovable quirky actor. I have to say. Great character's throughout and one of Vincent Price's last acted films.
Winona Ryder was at her peak of looks and acting in my opinion. Even made me weep when she's dancing in the snowflakes, reminiscing and reflecting.
There's been many other Johnny Depp movies I have grown to love... but this started it all out. - DirectorJeremiah S. ChechikStarsJohnny DeppMary Stuart MastersonAidan QuinnA mentally ill young woman finds her love in an eccentric man who models himself after Buster Keaton. This was a another great movie from the Deppster camp... I haven't revisited this movie since I first saw it... but I still remember that it was a great story and well acted.
- DirectorTim BurtonStarsEwan McGregorAlbert FinneyBilly CrudupA frustrated son tries to determine the fact from fiction in his dying father's life.I love Tim Burton's simple diversion from the norm... and telling stories from almost a demented yet palatable perspective. Great vision!!!
What a great fantasy and well told story. - DirectorTim BurtonStarsAlec BaldwinGeena DavisMichael KeatonThe spirits of a deceased couple are harassed by an unbearable family that has moved into their home, and hire a malicious spirit to drive them out.Just another fun movie that tips the scale in the Classics library. Wow, I just saw this one again the other day and forgot that Alec Baldwin got a big boost in his career from doing this one. He looked way young in this one... almost unrecognizable.
Fun Movie - DirectorCarl ReinerStarsSteve MartinBernadette PetersCatlin AdamsA simpleminded, sheltered country boy suddenly decides to leave his family home to experience life in the big city, where his naivete is both his best friend and his worst enemy. This one has stuck with me since my teen years.... Not to date myself.
This is definitely one of my favorite comedies of all times in the movie realm. I'll list a few more to follow.
But Steve Martin firmly launched his movie career with this one.
Excellent, and great roles by some of my fave, such as Bernadette Peters
If you've never seen this... your in for a treat. - DirectorTim HunterStarsCrispin GloverKeanu ReevesIone SkyeA high school slacker commits a shocking act and proceeds to let his friends in on the secret. However, the friends' reaction is almost as ambiguous and perplexing as the crime itself. It's been a while since I've seen this one. But with the wonderful cast of characters, and my first ever movie where I actually thought certain actors came through and shined for the first time in their career.... This is a diamond in the rough.
A very well told story with a twist of odd that just sticks with you. Just the staring corpse sits in my head on this. (did I give to much away)
You should watch this if you've always thought the lead actor couldn't act, in this one he does.
