- DirectorJohn PasquinStarsTim AllenJudge ReinholdWendy CrewsonWhen a man inadvertently makes Santa fall off his roof on Christmas Eve, he finds himself magically recruited to take his place. There is something about this first of three movies that always brings me back first. This funny movie will be a classic in years to come, because you can't help but laugh along with Tim Allen, and yet you can sympathize with Tim as he loses his parental rights just before Christmas. The music which starts out with the Carol of The Bells is so wonderful in this movie. The sequels do not quite live up to this one, but if you have never seen this movie before, take the time and enjoy it with someone over a bowl of popcorn and a nice warm fireplace. Merry Christmas.
- DirectorPeter GodfreyStarsBarbara StanwyckDennis MorganSydney GreenstreetA food writer who has lied about being the perfect housewife must try to cover her deception when her boss and a returning war hero invite themselves to her home for a traditional family Christmas. Here is a great classic with Barbara Stanwyck and Sidney Greenstreet. S. Z. Sakall is the comedy sidekick that steals many scenes throughout this movie. This movie is somewhat predictable but still worth your time to watch and enjoy.
- DirectorMichael CurtizStarsBing CrosbyDanny KayeRosemary ClooneyA successful song-and-dance team become romantically involved with a sister act and team up to save the failing Vermont inn of their former commanding general.Sisters, Snow, White Christmas make this movie referenced as a Irving Berlin movie (he wrote the songs). Who hasn't heard Bing Crosby sing White Christmas? Danny Kaye, Rosemary Clooney and Vera-Ellen round out this all-time favorite Christmas movie. White Christmas is a good family movie for everyone.
- DirectorJon TurteltaubStarsSandra BullockBill PullmanPeter GallagherA hopelessly romantic Chicago Transit Authority ticket booth operator is mistaken for the fiancée of a comatose patient.I was brought into my wife's family so similar as Sandra Bullock was welcomed into the Callaghan family at Christmas time, that was such a wonderful feeling I have never forgotten. I love the interaction of all of the family members, it reminds me of our families. Lots of comedy and laughs, and even a few deep moments of personal pain. I actually watch this movie several times during the year.
- DirectorMark SandrichRobert AllenStarsBing CrosbyFred AstaireMarjorie ReynoldsAt an inn which is open only on holidays, a crooner and a hoofer vie for the affections of a beautiful up-and-coming performer. Here is another Bing Crosby movie that makes my top 5 All-Time Christmas movies. Fred Astaire plays Bing's best friend who you would never leave him alone in a room with your wallet, but Fred's dancing numbers are always superb. The 4th of July firecracker solo is very exciting to watch. Of course with Bing singing White Christmas again, it makes this a must watch holiday movie favorite.
- DirectorNora EphronStarsTom HanksMeg RyanGreg KinnearBook superstore magnate Joe Fox and independent book shop owner Kathleen Kelly fall in love in the anonymity of the Internet, both blissfully unaware that he's trying to put her out of business. This movie starts out at Christmas time, so that is why I credit this Tom Hanks / Meg Ryan movie on my Christmas movies. Everyone loves Meg in this movie and her hardships can make you cry (really). Tom's character starts out as part of the bad/evil/dark character who opposes Meg's character. But, when is Tom Hanks ever a bad guy in a love story? I cannot help but shed a tear or two at the end of this movie when the actors come together. Great flick1
- DirectorNora EphronStarsTom HanksMeg RyanRoss MalingerA recently widowed man's son calls a radio talk-show in an attempt to find his father a partner.I have seen this movie so many times, that is the only reason that it comes in number seven on my Christmas movie list. What can I say about Sleepless in Seattle that hasn't already been said? This movie is and will always be a new holiday movie classic for decades to come. Excellent performances by Tom Hanks and Meg Ryan. Love it!
- DirectorBill MelendezStarsAnn AltieriChris DoranSally DryerDepressed at the commercialism he sees around him, Charlie Brown tries to find a deeper meaning to Christmas.I was only 12 years old when this came out and I have enjoyed the Peanuts gang over the last 40 years. Very simple music, but it will stay with you hours afterwards. Short film but always worth the time, young kids will always enjoy it.
- DirectorBrian Desmond HurstStarsAlastair SimJack WarnerKathleen HarrisonEbenezer Scrooge, a curmudgeonly, miserly businessman, has no time for sentimentality and largely views Christmas as a waste of time. However, this Christmas Eve, he will be visited by three spirits who will show him the error of his ways. This is the best of all of the movies with this title. Alastair Sim makes the best Ebeneezer Scrooge that I have ever seen. Even though this is a black and white movie, it still excels with the photography. I have yet to watch the new Jim Carey version, but I understand that Alastair was a role model for his character version.
- DirectorRichard DonnerStarsBill MurrayKaren AllenJohn ForsytheA selfish, cynical television executive is haunted by three spirits bearing lessons on Christmas Eve.Bill Murray rubs some people wrong, but when he plays Frank Cross a corporate people crushing CEO who you love to hate. My highlights, favorite part is when Carol Kane, who plays Christmas Present, is so funny on how she treats Bill. Enjoy this movie with your kids (if teenage level) and enjoy the laughs. Karen Allen plays Claire Philips, Bill's old girlfriend who works at a homeless shelter (just the opposite of Bill's life-style).
- DirectorFrank CapraStarsJames StewartDonna ReedLionel BarrymoreAn angel is sent from Heaven to help a desperately frustrated businessman by showing him what life would have been like if he had never existed.I have seen this all-time favorite movie too many times to rank it within my top ten, but it is still a great movie. The colorized version is nice, but not as good as the classic black and white original movie. Jimmy Stewart and Donna Reed make this movie great. Watch it.
- DirectorGeorge SeatonStarsEdmund GwennMaureen O'HaraJohn PayneAfter a divorced New York mother hires a nice old man to play Santa Claus at Macy's, she is startled by his claim to be the genuine article. When his sanity is questioned, a lawyer defends him in court by arguing that he's not mistaken. This is another movie that I have watched too much, but Edmund Gwenn and Natalie Wood make this movie so great. Maureen O'Hara gives a good performance as Doris Walker.
- DirectorLes MayfieldStarsRichard AttenboroughElizabeth PerkinsDylan McDermottA lawyer and a little girl must prove that a man claiming to be Santa Claus is the real thing. My wife and her sister always argue about which Miracle on 34th Street is better. I prefer to accept both as great movies. Mara Wilson plays a strong Susan Walker to make her performance equal to Natalie Woods original character. Richard Attenborough is a lovable Kris Kringle. Which movie is your favorite?
- DirectorLarry RoemerStarsBillie Mae RichardsBurl IvesLarry D. MannA young reindeer Rudolph lives at the North Pole. His father is one of Santa's reindeer and it is expected that Rudolph will eventually be one too. However, he has a feature which is a setback and causes him to be ostracized: his red nose. This is another simple children's film that was well made and younger kids enjoy it. Burl Ives as the snowman narrator adds a good story teller.
- DirectorRobert ZemeckisStarsTom HanksChris CoppolaMichael JeterOn Christmas Eve, a young boy embarks on a magical adventure to the North Pole on the Polar Express, while learning about friendship, bravery, and the spirit of Christmas.Tom Hanks get the nod for another good Christmas movie. Very interesting as a CGI film. Very good special effects.
