Bogart really gets to act out a character, playing the jaded writer who is deeply disturbed under the surface.

It's a great movie about war and the different personalities involved.
- DirectorWilliam KeighleyStarsEdward G. RobinsonJoan BlondellBarton MacLaneWhen a crusader against rackets is murdered, a grand jury battles the rackets by promoting McLaren to be in charge of the cleanup. He fires NYPD Detective Blake, who punches him and joins the racket.Bogart is nasty in one of his best gangster roles (before becoming a Hollywood star). He's the trigger-happy right-hand-man to a top racketeer, and he doesn't trust an ex-cop (Edward G. Robinson) when he joins the organization.
- DirectorArchie MayoMichael CurtizStarsHumphrey BogartAnn SheridanDick ForanA hard-working machinist loses a promotion to a Polish-born worker, he's seduced into joining the secretive Black Legion, which intimidates foreigners through violence. In an odd turn, Bogart plays a blue-collar family man. It's a gritty tale about real-life cults in Middle America.

- DirectorBilly WilderStarsHumphrey BogartAudrey HepburnWilliam HoldenA playboy becomes interested in the daughter of his family's chauffeur, but it's his more serious brother who would be the better man for her.In an interesting change of pace, Bogart plays a (somewhat devious) romantic interest in this charming Billy Wilder comedy. Bogart is William Holden's older brother and proudly carries the name of his successful industrial family. To protect a valuable business merger (marriage), he tries to keep Holden away from sweet, low-bred Audrey Hepburn. Bogart was a last-second replacement for Cary Grant. It's neat to see Bogart play comedy like this, although he was allegedly very grouchy on-set toward his younger co-stars.
- DirectorDelmer DavesStarsHumphrey BogartLauren BacallBruce BennettA man convicted of murdering his wife escapes from prison and works with a woman to try to prove his innocence.Bogart and Bacall again, with Bogart playing a criminal on the lam.
