Votes: 2,549,382 | Gross: $292.58M

1. Inception 2. The Social Network 3. True Grit 4. Toy Story 3 5. Black Swan

These movies are all way better than the winner (King's Speech) if you asked me and a thousand who have viewed all these film

2. The Hurt Locker (2008)

95 Metascore

During the Iraq War, a Sergeant recently assigned to an army bomb squad is put at odds with his squad mates due to his maverick way of handling his work.

Votes: 473,643 | Gross: $17.02M

1. HURT LOCKER 2. Inglourious Basterds 3. Avatar 4. UP 5. The Hangover

No more such argument here ( just a thought)

3. The Dark Knight (2008)

PG-13 | 152 min | Action, Crime, Drama

84 Metascore

When the menace known as the Joker wreaks havoc and chaos on the people of Gotham, Batman must accept one of the greatest psychological and physical tests of his ability to fight injustice.

Director: Christopher Nolan | Stars: Christian Bale, Heath Ledger, Aaron Eckhart, Michael Caine

Votes: 2,869,279 | Gross: $534.86M

1. The Dark Knight 2. SLUMDOG MILLIONAIRE 3. Wall-E 4. Quantum of Solace 5. Frost/Nixon

The Dark Knight does it all, the Joker push the scenes to the limit, the climax was so superb, and nothing against Danny Boyle's Oscar winning "Slumdog Millionaire" (still one of my favorite) but this darker superhero film changes the way superhero flick should be forever.

4. No Country for Old Men (2007)

R | 122 min | Crime, Drama, Thriller

Votes: 1,059,574 | Gross: $74.28M

1. NO COUNTRY FOR OLD MEN 2. Juno 3. There Will Be Blood 4. American Gangster 5. The Bourne Ultimatum

Another no argument I think...The real winner really tops all contender

5. Little Miss Sunshine (2006)

R | 101 min | Comedy, Drama

80 Metascore

A family determined to get their young daughter into the finals of a beauty pageant take a cross-country trip in their VW bus.

Directors: Jonathan Dayton, Valerie Faris | Stars: Steve Carell, Toni Collette, Greg Kinnear, Abigail Breslin

Votes: 517,841 | Gross: $59.89M

1. Little Miss Sunshine 2. THE DEPARTED 3. Letters From Iwo Jima 4. Blood Diamond 5. Casino Royale

Surely many of you will raise your eyebrows. Scorsese's "the departed" is really nice and great flick and of course with super-allstar cast made it possible plus its a mere remake of 2002 Infernal affairs ( which make me choose LMS instead). Overall it is one of the best, but I can't overlooked such efficiently magnificent independent film which just focusing on a single family which will entails all how beautiful life can be.

6. Munich (2005)

R | 164 min | Action, Drama, History

74 Metascore

After the Black September capture and massacre of Israeli athletes at the 1972 Olympics, five men are chosen to eliminate the people responsible for that fateful day.

Director: Steven Spielberg | Stars: Eric Bana, Daniel Craig, Marie-Josée Croze, Ciarán Hinds

Votes: 238,222 | Gross: $47.40M

1. Munich 2. Batman Begins 3. Brokeback Mountain 4. Sin City 5. A History of Violence

These movies are way to better to the film who won it all in 2006 Academy Award nights... "CRASH" which only features great acting performances and the story was nothing of a special though I believe it still have a nod

7. The Passion of the Christ (2004)

R | 127 min | Drama

47 Metascore

Depicts the final twelve hours in the life of Jesus of Nazareth, on the day of his crucifixion in Jerusalem.

Director: Mel Gibson | Stars: Jim Caviezel, Monica Bellucci, Maia Morgenstern, Christo Jivkov

Votes: 251,043 | Gross: $370.78M

1. The Passion of the Christ 2. Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind 3. MILLION DOLLAR BABY 4. Sideways 5. Avaitor

2 films ahead the actual winner, with such that the very controversial indie film of Mel Gibson about the last hours of our Savior Jesus-Christ was undoubtedly an epic and a must see movie for generation. While Eternal Sunshine, another Indie film exhibits an awkward love story which enlightened and delighted each and everyone who watches this simple but cute imaginative (sci-fi) film.

But of course Clint's film was so generous of acting skills which made it to the top, plus the story was great though the ending is quiet sad though overall a very good film you just cant out nod the story of Christ.

8. The Lord of the Rings: The Return of the King (2003)

PG-13 | 201 min | Action, Adventure, Drama

94 Metascore

Gandalf and Aragorn lead the World of Men against Sauron's army to draw his gaze from Frodo and Sam as they approach Mount Doom with the One Ring.

1. THE LORD OF THE RINGS: THE RETURN OF THE KING 2. Mystic River 3. Finding Nemo 4. City of God 5. Pirates of the Caribbean: The Curse of the Black Pearl

No question asked! The best film of that year. An epic ending to the the best Trilogy ever.

FYI : it sweeps the Academy Award nigth like no other with 11 Wins of 11 nomination it has.

9. The Pianist (2002)

R | 150 min | Biography, Drama, Music

Director: Roman Polanski | Stars: Adrien Brody, Thomas Kretschmann, Frank Finlay, Emilia Fox

Votes: 911,663 | Gross: $32.57M

1. The Pianist 2. The Lord of the Rings: The Two Towers 3. Gangs of New York 4. Adaptation 5. Minority Report

Another year with undeserving winner, and for me the worst best picture winner of All Time. (Chicago)

This one was a travesty. I’ll start by saying that I did see it on Broadway years ago and loved it. It was great, sexy entertainment filled with wonderful choreography. And unlike some Broadway musicals that made successful transitions to the world of film, this just plays as silly entertainment geared to the “Glee” demographic. It plays more like the failed musical adaptations such as “Rent” and “Phantom of the Opera” than it does the ones which actually encapsulate the essence of what made the musicals great in the first place (like “West Side Story” or “An American in Paris”). The songs are great, sure – it’s a great musical. But when you leave it to a Hollywood cast who are there for box-office power and not their singing chops (John C. Reilly, Renee Zellweger, Richard Gere), the songs fall flat. It was a weak year for good movies, but no one is ever going to look back at 2002 and think, “Oh, ‘Chicago’ was the best movie that year!” “Chicago” isn’t a good movie that beat out the more deserving…it is a poor, glitz-over-substance film that beat out the more deserving

10. A Beautiful Mind (2001)

PG-13 | 135 min | Biography, Drama, Mystery

72 Metascore

A mathematical genius, John Nash made an astonishing discovery early in his career and stood on the brink of international acclaim. But the handsome and arrogant Nash soon found himself on a harrowing journey of self-discovery.

Director: Ron Howard | Stars: Russell Crowe, Ed Harris, Jennifer Connelly, Christopher Plummer

Votes: 986,546 | Gross: $170.74M

1. A BEAUTIFUL MIND 2. The Lord of the Rings: The Fellowship of the Ring 3. Shrek 4. Black Hawk Down 5. Mulholland Drive

I'm Sticking with the winner. The biography of the genius John Nash puts into film that will shock you how amazing and mesmerizing his life story was, though the first installment of the LOTR franchise was as fascinating till the end.

11. Gladiator (2000)

R | 155 min | Action, Adventure, Drama

67 Metascore

A former Roman General sets out to exact vengeance against the corrupt emperor who murdered his family and sent him into slavery.

Director: Ridley Scott | Stars: Russell Crowe, Joaquin Phoenix, Connie Nielsen, Oliver Reed

Votes: 1,619,199 | Gross: $187.71M

1. GLADIATOR 2. Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon 3. Memento 4. Traffic 5. Almost Famous/Requiem for a Dream/Cast Away

Two Russell Crow film in a row and both deserves the award. Great Modern Epic and one of the best movie of all time and my personal most favorite! A great great revenge story to the emperor that plotted in arena of Rome as gladiator.

I can't discount how great Cast Away & Requiem for a Dream were that's why I put them together with Almost Famous.

12. The Matrix (1999)

R | 136 min | Action, Sci-Fi

73 Metascore

When a beautiful stranger leads computer hacker Neo to a forbidding underworld, he discovers the shocking truth--the life he knows is the elaborate deception of an evil cyber-intelligence.

Directors: Lana Wachowski, Lilly Wachowski | Stars: Keanu Reeves, Laurence Fishburne, Carrie-Anne Moss, Hugo Weaving

Votes: 2,051,955 | Gross: $171.48M

1. The Matrix 2. AMERICAN BEAUTY 3. The Insider 4. The Sixth Sense 5. The Talented Mr. Ripley

Matrix is a game changer movie, and I do think this should be credited to one of the best movie of all time... The whole story was told in a very different style and the CGI was so good than you can ever imagine. In fairness to Sam Mendez's American Beauty which I think co-deserving for it has a very good story, still I cant just overlook how this Wachowski Bros. flick not winning it and even not nominated that year.

13. Saving Private Ryan (1998)

R | 169 min | Drama, War

91 Metascore

Following the Normandy Landings, a group of U.S. soldiers go behind enemy lines to retrieve a paratrooper whose brothers have been killed in action.

Director: Steven Spielberg | Stars: Tom Hanks, Matt Damon, Tom Sizemore, Edward Burns

Votes: 1,495,755 | Gross: $216.54M

1. Saving Private Ryan 2. The Big Lebowski 3. The Thin Red Line 4. SHAKESPEARE IN LOVE 5. The Truman Show

Winning the best director for Spielberg's war-drama-epic doesn't give justice especially if it was just some great good old romance chick-flick movie "Shakespeare In Love". I think most of critiques would agree with me that Saving Private Ryan or The Big Lebowski or even The Thin Red Line was much more deserving than Shakespeare In Love. It was entertaining yet it was nothing compared to those Three

14. Titanic (1997)

PG-13 | 194 min | Drama, Romance

75 Metascore

A seventeen-year-old aristocrat falls in love with a kind but poor artist aboard the luxurious, ill-fated R.M.S. Titanic.

Director: James Cameron | Stars: Leonardo DiCaprio, Kate Winslet, Billy Zane, Kathy Bates

Votes: 1,279,580 | Gross: $659.33M

1. TITANIC 2. L.A. Confidential 3. Goodwill Hunting 4. Amistad 5. As Good As it Gets

Not a great year for high quality movie but Titanic delivers an epic film which last to our memory as one of the best film of all time speaking of tickets sold and awards that it gets in the Academy Award Nights.

15. Fargo (1996)

R | 98 min | Crime, Thriller

88 Metascore

Minnesota car salesman Jerry Lundegaard's inept crime falls apart due to his and his henchmen's bungling and the persistent police work of the quite pregnant Marge Gunderson.

Directors: Joel Coen, Ethan Coen | Stars: William H. Macy, Frances McDormand, Steve Buscemi, Peter Stormare

Votes: 726,328 | Gross: $24.61M

1. Fargo 2. Trainspotting 3. Jerry Maguire 4. Secrets and Lies 5. Sling Blade

The English Patient who won the best picture award which I actually like, but given the other notable films of that year, I mean, come on…who actually fell in love with this movie and can watch it over and over? It certainly has the looks of a “Best Picture” winner. It’s grand and epic in scope – Oscar loves that, I know. But with films like “Fargo,” “Secrets and Lies,” “Sling Blade " "Trainspotting" and even "Jerry Maguire" could notch the winner out.

Fargo for a reason is the more suitable winner was with no major stars or well-known names, the actors outshine many more familiar personages. The story is well thought out. The criminals don't try to ingratiate themselves with the audience which adds to its reality. The acting is most convincing and the writing is excellent. Even the cold of a North Dakota winter comes across. Every film course should make use of this movie to demonstrate how to make a very good film without relying on a bottomless budget.

16. The Usual Suspects (1995)

R | 106 min | Crime, Drama, Mystery

76 Metascore

The sole survivor of a pier shoot-out tells the story of how a notorious criminal influenced the events that began with five criminals meeting in a seemingly random police lineup.

Director: Bryan Singer | Stars: Kevin Spacey, Gabriel Byrne, Chazz Palminteri, Stephen Baldwin

Votes: 1,144,913 | Gross: $23.34M

1. The Usual Suspects 2. Se7en 3. BRAVEHEART 4. Apollo 13 5. Babe

At first I would like to choose the real trophy getter (braveheart) but as I recall Se7en and The Usual Suspects made it so lean and basic movie and so easy to grasp because how the plot of Bryan Singer's Indie flick make me realized how movie and critical thinking should be co-exist and entertainingly wise it made u more fascinated and mesmerized till your out of the screen.

BRAVEHEART was one heck of an epic that will be never changed though 'The Usual Suspects' made almost everyone who watched this film more interested in watching a thrilling mind-blowing movie like Memento, Inception, & Sixth Sense etc.,

17. The Shawshank Redemption (1994)

R | 142 min | Drama

82 Metascore

Over the course of several years, two convicts form a friendship, seeking consolation and, eventually, redemption through basic compassion.

Director: Frank Darabont | Stars: Tim Robbins, Morgan Freeman, Bob Gunton, William Sadler

Votes: 2,887,141 | Gross: $28.34M

1. The Shawshank Redemption 2. FORREST GUMP 3. Pulp Fiction 4. Four Weddings and a Funeral 5. Quiz Show

This one was no brainer for us here in IMDb. The No. 1 in the Top 250 film here is really and should be the best picture awardee. Controversially the Forrest Gump won it, but FG is one of my favorite movie of all time not to regress it but "The Shawshank Redemption" should really got the prestigious award.

18. Schindler's List (1993)

R | 195 min | Biography, Drama, History

95 Metascore

In German-occupied Poland during World War II, industrialist Oskar Schindler gradually becomes concerned for his Jewish workforce after witnessing their persecution by the Nazis.

Director: Steven Spielberg | Stars: Liam Neeson, Ralph Fiennes, Ben Kingsley, Caroline Goodall

Votes: 1,449,893 | Gross: $96.90M

1. SCHINDLER'S LIST 2. Groundhog Day 3. The Fugitive 4. The Piano 5. In the Name of the Father

Truly is deserving, this magnificent true-to-life movie which I think Spielberg's best movie of his time and belongs to the best of the best movie of all time

19. Unforgiven (1992)

R | 130 min | Drama, Western

85 Metascore

Retired Old West gunslinger William Munny reluctantly takes on one last job, with the help of his old partner Ned Logan and a young man, The "Schofield Kid."

Director: Clint Eastwood | Stars: Clint Eastwood, Gene Hackman, Morgan Freeman, Richard Harris

Votes: 435,990 | Gross: $101.16M

1. UNFORGIVEN 2. The Crying Game 3. A Few Good Men 4. Hard-Boiled 5. Scent of a Woman

No arguments I think. The last best western movie I think. Although I love the crying games twisted ending its unforgiven to give the Oscars to other film.

20. The Silence of the Lambs (1991)

R | 118 min | Crime, Drama, Thriller

86 Metascore

A young F.B.I. cadet must receive the help of an incarcerated and manipulative cannibal killer to help catch another serial killer, a madman who skins his victims.

Director: Jonathan Demme | Stars: Jodie Foster, Anthony Hopkins, Scott Glenn, Ted Levine

Votes: 1,547,510 | Gross: $130.74M

1. THE SILENCE OF THE LAMBS 2. JFK 3. Thelma & Louise 4. Barton Fink 5. The Prince of Tides

The First Horror movie in the list, but truly is mesmerizing how the acting was done and the twisted plot sway you to the edge of your sit. Truly deserving one.

21. Goodfellas (1990)

R | 145 min | Biography, Crime, Drama

92 Metascore

The story of Henry Hill and his life in the mafia, covering his relationship with his wife Karen and his mob partners Jimmy Conway and Tommy DeVito.

Director: Martin Scorsese | Stars: Robert De Niro, Ray Liotta, Joe Pesci, Lorraine Bracco

Votes: 1,256,696 | Gross: $46.84M

1. GoodFellas 2. DANCES WITH WOLVES 3. Miller's Crossing 4. The Godfather, Part III 5. Pretty Woman

I can't imagine how Costner's film notched this one. This is truly the masterpiece of Martin Scorsese though he did not won on this film. This is the best crime movie I've watched and one of my personal favorite.

This real life crime drama will leave you breathless till the very end of Henry Hill's biography. With its magnificent ending wolves have gunned to death after dancing (just kidding)

22. Born on the Fourth of July (1989)

R | 145 min | Biography, Drama, War

75 Metascore

The biography of Ron Kovic. Paralyzed in the Vietnam war, he becomes an anti-war and pro-human rights political activist after feeling betrayed by the country for which he fought.

Director: Oliver Stone | Stars: Tom Cruise, Bryan Larkin, Raymond J. Barry, Caroline Kava

Votes: 115,887 | Gross: $70.00M

1. Born on the Fourth of July 2. Henry V 3. Field of Dreams 4. Glory 5. My Left Foot

Driving Miss Daisy is not as good as it gets. This is a sweet film with some very touching moments. Morgan Freeman is outstanding here as is Jessica Tandy (who won a “Best Actress” Oscar here). But “Best Picture”? Do you really look back to 1989 and think back on this as being the year’s Best Picture?! If you are saying, “Yes” as you read this now, I’m calling you a liar. The film’s director wasn’t even recognized as a “Best Director” nominee. This was a year where voters wanted to feel good about themselves by selecting a movie that (haphazardly) shows the evils of racism. On that level, I felt the film to be a bit insulting, to be honest. It treats its viewers like idiots, thinking we had no idea how poorly blacks were treated in the South in 1948 and that yes, racism is bad. Thank you. It ranks so high on the list for these reasons and because it indefensibly beat out such grand triumphs of film such as Born on the Fourth of July and other four films above.

23. Rain Man (1988)

R | 133 min | Drama

65 Metascore

After a selfish L.A. yuppie learns his estranged father left a fortune to an autistic-savant brother in Ohio that he didn't know existed, he absconds with his brother and sets out across the country, hoping to gain a larger inheritance.

Director: Barry Levinson | Stars: Dustin Hoffman, Tom Cruise, Valeria Golino, Gerald R. Molen

Votes: 546,392 | Gross: $178.80M

1. RAIN MAN 2. Dangerous Liaisons 3. Mississippi Burning 4. The Accidental Tourist 5. The Accused

No argument I think. 2 of the best actor perform a well loved film, Rain Man is another film deserving to won.

24. Full Metal Jacket (1987)

R | 116 min | Drama, War

78 Metascore

A pragmatic U.S. Marine observes the dehumanizing effects the Vietnam War has on his fellow recruits from their brutal boot camp training to the bloody street fighting in Hue.

Director: Stanley Kubrick | Stars: Matthew Modine, R. Lee Ermey, Vincent D'Onofrio, Adam Baldwin

Votes: 790,081 | Gross: $46.36M

1. Full Metal Jacket 2. Empire of the Sun 3. THE LAST EMPEROR 4. Fatal Attraction 5. Moonstruck

Many of you will agree that Stanley's Kubrik war epic should have won the Oscars Best Picture than 'The Last Emperor'. Even Spielberg's Empire of the Sun is way to better than the winner, though it is really good movie I just don't think how it surpass Full Metal Jacket.

25. Platoon (1986)

R | 120 min | Drama, War

92 Metascore

Chris Taylor, a neophyte recruit in Vietnam, finds himself caught in a battle of wills between two sergeants, one good and the other evil. A shrewd examination of the brutality of war and the duality of man in conflict.

Director: Oliver Stone | Stars: Charlie Sheen, Tom Berenger, Willem Dafoe, Keith David

Votes: 439,315 | Gross: $138.53M

1. PLATOON 2. Hannah and Her Sisters 3. The Mission 4. A Room with a View 5. Children of a Lesser God

No Argument at all compare Platoon to its rival though Woody Allen's Hannah and Her Sister is close...
