To think that you could have such a nightmare you could never get out of with a guy like Freddy chasing you, I'm sure we can all admit he kept us up at night for a period of time. Pulling the covers over your head won't do anything to get rid of him. A great original!

Votes: 130,504 | Gross: $58.27M

In my opinion, one of my favourites. Rob Zombie has captured the true reason of Michael Myers' existance and taken it to the extreme. This explains in full exciting detail why he is the way he is. I see this as a whole different movie to the originals ofcourse - you must watch it like you haven't seen any of the original Halloweens - then decide whether you like it or not.

More of a crime movie, but would you seriously think being chased by a guy with a chainsaw or an axe isn't horrific? He's so impressive, he makes you want to be around him, until he lets his psycho within get the better of him... let the chaos begin!

You seriously thought he wouldn't be back? It's one hell of a rush running away from Freddy but he'll always be back waiting for your eyes to shut into that deep sleep. Definetly not recommended for the faint hearted, but you will jump out of your seat.

If you like jumpy movies then this is for you! Doesn't have to be anything major just a couple enjoying a get away in their holiday cabin and 3 psychotic people wanting to kill them for the fun of it! Loosley based on some true events makes it even scarier. You wouldn't want to stay home alone after watching this.

11. The Texas Chain Saw Massacre (1974)

This story is just a nightmare! Leatherface is by far one of the scariest characters ever written which makes this such a great movie. Based on true events, it's one of the best Cult Classics about a family of psychotic cannibals. Scary Fun!

Votes: 658,691 | Gross: $260.00M

Oooh Jaws! How could anyone not know this movie! No, Scratch that, How could anyone not love this movie! Such a good, old classic that used to scare the bejesus out of all us from going in the water (including parents). I think at some point everyone heard that music in their head while swimming in the beach or in their pool of Jaws chasing us (dana-dana-danananananana). So old but so good!

Votes: 117,298 | Gross: $65.23M

Apparently a true story. Everyone knows the basic plot to this, I personally think this version is better than the old one (not like me to say that) but it's a great remake! You would think that you would be the one to chase after Ryan Reynolds, wait until the ending then you'll rethink that thought!

This is the definition of classic horror. The movie that scared the whole world. If you haven't seen it, you are definetly missing out. One of those things you have to do before you die.

Such a creeper! As the movie goes on, as she walks in to every different room, as it gets darker and darker, this movie gets creepier and creepier. It's like watching the real life version of the game (if you're a fan of the game). Seeing that sign Welcome to Silent Hill is just a sign of bad news ahead. Worth a watch.

Yep... definetly forgot how scary this movie actually is. The pop ups out of no where that make you jump a ft off your couch and oooh that stair case scene who can forget that! Such an exciting movie! If you get a thrill out of being scared, this isn't one to miss!

Votes: 292,927 | Gross: $165.09M

What is the only way to get Dr. Hannibal Lecter for revenge? Use the one thing he has truely only cared for, Clarice Starling. We see how a disfigured victim of Hannibal Lecter (Mason Verger) lures him back from his hidden life to seek revenge 10 years later. The chase is thrilling, mix that with some gorey murders and watch the puzzle get put together piece by piece.

Dr. Hannibal Lecter... what a character! Go inside the mind of a manipulative psychopath and see how they really think. It's one twisted tale that shows the true character of a psychotic murderer.

Stars: Richard Thomas, Tim Reid, Annette O'Toole, Harry Anderson

Votes: 140,749

If you're like me and have a personal fear of clowns, this will get you squirming! Even though it's an oldie after watching it, tell me you walked past a drain without thinking of a clown snatching you up... didn't think so... You'll never think the same of a friendly clown again. Classic.

21. The Fourth Kind (2009)

PG-13 | 98 min | Horror, Mystery, Sci-Fi

34 Metascore

A thriller involving an ongoing unsolved mystery in Alaska, where one town has seen an extraordinary number of unexplained disappearances during the past 40 years and there are accusations of a federal cover up.

Director: Olatunde Osunsanmi | Stars: Milla Jovovich, Elias Koteas, Will Patton, Hakeem Kae-Kazim

Votes: 81,790 | Gross: $25.46M

Not a horror, but still scary enough. This shows parts of "real footage" and a dramatization. Anyone can believe it or not if these real cases actually happened or whether they were loosely based on true events, who knows? It's just a really good movie! One I won't forget and even if you don't get scared (you most likely will), it's got a really interesting plot that never gets boring! It's so hard to make an alien movie without making it "cheap" or "tacky" or even just "lame", this is definetly well done!

22. The Shining (1980)

68 Metascore

Votes: 1,105,053 | Gross: $44.02M

How could we ever forget this Cult Classic! So many famous quotes such as:

All work and no play makes Jack a dull boy

Much like The Amityville Horror, we see how (the character) Jack's personality slowly changes as he goes into madness. With the addition of such an amazing actor Jack Nicholson, it's a famous book and movie for a reason - because it's a *beep*ing brilliant story.

23. Arachnophobia (1990)

PG-13 | 109 min | Comedy, Horror, Thriller

67 Metascore

A new species of South American killer spider hitches a lift to a small California town in a coffin and starts to breed, leaving a trail of deaths that puzzle and terrify the young doctor newly arrived in town with his family.

Director: Frank Marshall | Stars: Jeff Daniels, Julian Sands, John Goodman, Harley Jane Kozak

Votes: 75,732 | Gross: $53.21M

-If you hate spiders- then yes, this will make you feel like they're all over you! As if you didn't go in the shower and check to see there wasn't a spider on the shower curtain, or in your slippers. I only picked this purely because just seeing a picture of our 8 legged friends gives me the creeps. It's a true fear people have that has surprised us all in our homes at some point. But this movie isn't as exaggerated as Eight Legged Freaks, it's more real.
