- DirectorFrancis Ford CoppolaStarsMartin SheenMarlon BrandoRobert DuvallA U.S. Army officer serving in Vietnam is tasked with assassinating a renegade Special Forces Colonel who sees himself as a god. This film is extremely bizarre and will require multiple viewings. Cannot rate it.
- DirectorHenry SelickStarsDanny ElfmanChris SarandonCatherine O'HaraJack Skellington, king of Halloween Town, discovers Christmas Town, but his attempts to bring Christmas to his home causes confusion.Poor plot that kept me bored throughout the film. I can appreciate the animation but a far cry from something like Coraline which has impressive animation with a better storyline… 4/10
- DirectorJoel CoenEthan CoenStarsJeff BridgesJohn GoodmanJulianne MooreJeff "The Dude" Lebowski, mistaken for a millionaire of the same name, seeks restitution for his ruined rug and enlists his bowling buddies to help get it.Dumb comedy that gets nowhere and has no plotline. The comedy is stupid and there isn't even three good jokes. The only reason it'll get 4 stars out of ten is because of Steve Buscemi and John Goodmans' performances were mildly amusing. 4/10
- DirectorJohn HughesStarsMatthew BroderickAlan RuckMia SaraA popular high school student, admired by his peers, decides to take a day off from school and goes to extreme lengths to pull it off, to the chagrin of his Dean, who'll do anything to stop him.Not humorous, weak plot and I'm not a fan of Matthew Broderick at all. Exception: Glory ... 4/10
- DirectorTobe HooperStarsJoBeth WilliamsHeather O'RourkeCraig T. NelsonA family's home is haunted by a host of demonic ghosts. Most overrated film of all-time. Not even scary, a disappointment and by far Spielberg's worst film. Followed by two very bad sequels. 4/10
- DirectorGore VerbinskiStarsJohnny DeppOrlando BloomKeira KnightleyCaptain Barbossa, Will Turner and Elizabeth Swann must sail off the edge of the map, navigate treachery and betrayal, find Jack Sparrow, and make their final alliances for one last decisive battle. The only Pirates of the Caribbean movie I didn't like. Very long and boring. Almost 3 hours. With a 300 million budget (the biggest to date), I expected a lot more. 4/10
- DirectorMike JudgeStarsRon LivingstonJennifer AnistonDavid HermanThree company workers who hate their jobs decide to rebel against their greedy boss.Watchable and mildly entertaining. But definitely nothing special here. I don't understand why it has nearly an 8 out of 10... 5/10
- DirectorRichard KellyStarsJake GyllenhaalJena MaloneMary McDonnellAfter narrowly escaping a bizarre accident, a troubled teenager is plagued by visions of a man in a large rabbit suit who manipulates him to commit a series of crimes.I didn't get it. :( If someone could please explain in the comments at the end, I'll be glad to give it another shot or watch the Director's Cut until I understand it. 5/10
- DirectorAlfonso CuarónStarsJulianne MooreClive OwenChiwetel EjioforIn 2027, in a chaotic world in which women have somehow become infertile, a former activist agrees to help transport a miraculously pregnant woman to a sanctuary at sea.Disappointing. I hate ten minute movie scenes with no talking like in this movie. I think it's overrated. 5/10
- DirectorJohn LandisStarsDavid NaughtonJenny AgutterJoe BelcherTwo American college students on a walking tour of Britain are attacked by a werewolf that none of the locals will admit exists.A few funny parts but bad movie overall. Very cheesy. Ahead of its time for special effects though... 5/10
- DirectorDavid CronenbergStarsViggo MortensenMaria BelloEd HarrisA mild-mannered man becomes a local hero through an act of violence, which sets off repercussions that will shake his family to its very core.Simple movie that had good writing that could've been much better. William Hurt got nominated for an academy award and had maybe 5 minutes of screen time... Disappointment I thought considering all the critics hailed it on the metascore... 5/10
- DirectorTerry JonesStarsGraham ChapmanJohn CleeseMichael PalinBorn on the original Christmas in the stable next door to Jesus Christ, Brian of Nazareth spends his life being mistaken for a messiah.Comedy can be subjective so it’s hard to place an accurate argument on why it’s overrated but compared to Holy Grail this film is a bit more dated and less of the jokes hit. I may not be as familiar as some with the source material of the bible so some of the jokes may be over my head but in isolation this movie is a… 5/10
- DirectorCharles LaughtonStarsRobert MitchumShelley WintersLillian GishA self-proclaimed preacher marries a gullible widow whose young children are reluctant to tell him where their real dad hid the $10,000 he'd stolen in a robbery. The most dated movie I've seen. Maybe if I'd have seen it 50 years ago I would of appreciated more but honestly only thing special here is Robert Mitchum's performance. The flow was weak and I did not like how the story played out. Very basic and simple movie not a great one... 5/10
- DirectorJoe WrightStarsKeira KnightleyMatthew MacfadyenBrenda BlethynSparks fly when spirited Elizabeth Bennet meets single, rich, and proud Mr. Darcy. But Mr. Darcy reluctantly finds himself falling in love with a woman beneath his class. Can each overcome their own pride and prejudice?Boring but watchable, nothing in this movie that makes it great… 5/10
- DirectorSofia CoppolaStarsBill MurrayScarlett JohanssonGiovanni RibisiA faded movie star and a neglected young woman form an unlikely bond after crossing paths in Tokyo.Bill Murray is in top form and so is Scarlett Johansson. However, these 2 strong performances aren't spectacular enough to make the movie a great film let alone a good film. I did not find the plot well done at all... 6/10
- DirectorJames CameronStarsArnold SchwarzeneggerLinda HamiltonMichael BiehnA human soldier is sent from 2029 to 1984 to stop an almost indestructible cyborg killing machine, sent from the same year, which has been programmed to execute a young woman whose unborn son is the key to humanity's future salvation.Outdated and the worst of the Terminators. The sequel was amazing and the next two were good. I just didn't appreciate it that much. 6/10
- DirectorQuentin TarantinoStarsUma ThurmanDavid CarradineDaryl HannahAfter awakening from a four-year coma, a former assassin wreaks vengeance on the team of assassins who betrayed her.The worst Tarantino film I have seen to date. Overly violent and not a great film. It had its moments but doesn't deserve an 8/10... 6/10
- DirectorStanley KubrickStarsMalcolm McDowellPatrick MageeMichael BatesIn the future, a sadistic gang leader is imprisoned and volunteers for a conduct-aversion experiment, but it doesn't go as planned.Eccentric and disappointing compared to the novel. I thought that the best parts were left out from the book and changed the entirety of the movie. Less emphasis on choice of decisions than conformity compared to the novel. All in all, still a half decent interpretation but not the one I was hoping for. 6/10
- DirectorDenis VilleneuveStarsAmy AdamsJeremy RennerForest WhitakerA linguist works with the military to communicate with alien lifeforms after twelve mysterious spacecraft appear around the world.Being a big Villeneuve fan, I can't help but say I was superbly disappointed in this one. Nominated for 8 Oscars? Film was boring, dry and not much substance. I love Amy Adams too but could not get into this film... 6/10
- DirectorAnthony RussoJoe RussoStarsRobert Downey Jr.Chris HemsworthMark RuffaloThe Avengers and their allies must be willing to sacrifice all in an attempt to defeat the powerful Thanos before his blitz of devastation and ruin puts an end to the universe.A disappointment. The movie tries to play up to its huge twist which essentially gets reverted in the next film. The worst of the Avengers movies and while it's a good popcorn flick it was superbly overhyped and my least favourite Russo brothers film bogged down by major CGI and lacks the practical stunts their other films had... 6/10
- DirectorDenis VilleneuveStarsTimothée ChalametRebecca FergusonZendayaA noble family becomes embroiled in a war for control over the galaxy's most valuable asset while its heir becomes troubled by visions of a dark future.Visually stunning with an all-star cast but minimal substance, boring and long-winded... 6/10
- DirectorHayao MiyazakiStarsHitoshi TakagiNoriko HidakaChika SakamotoWhen two girls move to the country to be near their ailing mother, they have adventures with the wondrous forest spirits who live nearby. When compared to other animated movies these days it does not strike as anything too special. Ok film with strong subject matter regarding dealing with illness. There are better Miyazaki films... 6/10
- DirectorMartin ScorseseStarsRobert De NiroJodie FosterCybill ShepherdA mentally unstable veteran works as a nighttime taxi driver in New York City, where the perceived decadence and sleaze fuels his urge for violent action.A classic that is good but I don't understand all the praise? Sure DeNiro is in top performance mode as always but I really only think it is a good movie compared to other Scorsese films. Definitely shocked when people said this was the best Scorsese film ... 7/10
- DirectorDavid FincherStarsBrad PittEdward NortonMeat LoafAn insomniac office worker and a devil-may-care soap maker form an underground fight club that evolves into much more. Not one of Fincher's best. Good movie but I could think of almost 100 movies that are better and more deserving of a top ten spot on the IMDB Top 250 list. Great acting but plot is weak at times. So disappointed this is ranked before my all-time favorite movie... One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest... 7/10
- DirectorStanley KubrickStarsMatthew ModineR. Lee ErmeyVincent D'OnofrioA pragmatic U.S. Marine observes the dehumanizing effects the Vietnam War has on his fellow recruits from their brutal boot camp training to the bloody street fighting in Hue.The first half with R. Lee Ermey was very well done and great. But the second act took away quite a bit. The ending tried to be very metaphorical and dramatic but it didn't have the effect on me that over war films have had... 7/10
- DirectorLuc BessonStarsJean RenoGary OldmanNatalie Portman12-year-old Mathilda is reluctantly taken in by Léon, a professional assassin, after her family is murdered. An unusual relationship forms as she becomes his protégée and learns the assassin's trade.Dated, uncomfortable sexual undertones, and an over the top performance by Gary Oldman. Strong performances by Jean Reno & Natalie Portman do make this a good film... 7/10
