This one can be confusing at first, but on a second viewing I found I started to appreciate it so much more for what it is. It is an ingenious film, you just have to watch it as its own movie, rather than as a prequel to Alien.

I have not seen the original yet, but I can say that this was a very interesting and compelling drama that I felt did a very good job of showcasing its underlying theme of how you can never truly understand extraterrestrial life, whilst also showcasing some well-written characters.
