Editors' Picks: Our Favorite Things From the Week of August 275 of 12
Manga Adaptation of the Week
The latest trailer dropped for Takashi Miike's 100th film, Blade of the Immortal, and it is everything. Takuya Kimura ("Hero," "Beautiful Life") embodies the low-key coolness of the immortal samurai Manji that we grew to love in the manga, and Miike seems to have added a modern twist to the Edo period with a hip-hop soundtrack that gives the whole thing a style reminiscent of another of our favorites, "Samurai Champloo." It will be interesting to see if this style extends to the full-length film as well. But either way, it's got us excited.
