Award Contenders: Talking With Saoirse Ronan of 'Brooklyn'2 of 9
IMDb: You have your pick of films. What attracted you to the role of Ellis?
Saoirse Ronan: Initially, when I read the script, apart from the fact that it’s a Nick Hornby script and he’s so terrific, I really recognized my own Mom and Dad in the story and in the script. They moved to New York in the 1980s and had me over there and got married in City Hall. So, there were so many similarities. I knew, as well, that I wanted my first Irish project to be something I could be fully passionate about. When this came along, it just seemed like the right thing. At the time we actually made the film, it was actually about a year later, and in that time I had moved away from home. So, then the story took on another [resonance] for me altogether, and the connection became even deeper.
