Josh McDermitt on "The Walking Dead" Season 6 Finale and Season 7 — Exclusive3 of 9
What was your reaction when you read the finale script and saw that big scene and then the succeeding scene that revealed Eugene could be Negan's target?
I was very excited when I read the script and saw that. I think the Episode 16 finale is a great episode for Eugene. He got shot [in Episode 14]. He could've slipped back and regressed and said, 'Maybe this isn't for me.' Instead, he's still stepping up, and he's still trying to prove to others he's a valuable member of this group in a physical sense as well.
So, reading that [finale script, with big moments for Eugene], I got a little teary-eyed, because I'm rooting for Eugene ... He's the type of guy that shouldn't be alive in the apocalypse, but somehow he figured a way to be a survivor. That's just very exciting for me, and I'm happy to be able to portray a character like that.
