James G.'s Favorite Horror of 20189 of 10
2. "The Haunting of Hill House"
Series creator Mike Flanagan had made quite a name for himself in the genre (see Gerald’s Game, Hush, and Absentia), but "The Haunting of Hill House" propelled him into the top tier of horror filmmakers. I did have some problems with the final few episodes (how many monologues were really needed to wrap things up?), but they don't overshadow the fun of bingeing this show. I was completely invested in the main characters, enthralled by the unfolding plot, and loved the balance of creeping dread and effective jump scares. How often do horror fans get the whole package like this?
