60 Metascore

In a violent, futuristic city where the police have the authority to act as judge, jury and executioner, a cop teams with a trainee to take down a gang that deals the reality-altering drug, SLO-MO.

Director: Pete Travis | Stars: Karl Urban, Olivia Thirlby, Lena Headey, Rachel Wood

Votes: 294,522 | Gross: $13.41M

Hopefully the upcoming TV series does it justice.

2. Escape from L.A. (1996)

R | 101 min | Action, Adventure, Sci-Fi

54 Metascore

Snake Plissken is once again called in by the United States government to recover a potential doomsday device from Los Angeles, now an autonomous island where undesirables are deported.

Director: John Carpenter | Stars: Kurt Russell, Steve Buscemi, Stacy Keach, A.J. Langer

Votes: 80,580 | Gross: $25.48M

I'd much rather see a third film with Kurt Russell than the remake of Escape from New York.

3. The Punisher (2004)

R | 124 min | Action, Crime, Drama

33 Metascore

An undercover FBI agent becomes a vigilante and sets out to unleash his wrath upon the corrupt businessman who slaughtered his entire family at a reunion.

Director: Jonathan Hensleigh | Stars: Thomas Jane, John Travolta, Samantha Mathis, Laura Harring

Votes: 170,616 | Gross: $33.81M

Jon Bernthal is great, but I just want more of Tom Jane's take on the character. The 2012 short "Dirty Laundry" was great but such a tease.

4. The Incredible Hulk (2008)

PG-13 | 112 min | Action, Adventure, Sci-Fi

61 Metascore

Bruce Banner, a scientist on the run from the U.S. Government, must find a cure for the monster he turns into whenever he loses his temper.

Director: Louis Leterrier | Stars: Edward Norton, Liv Tyler, Tim Roth, William Hurt

Votes: 523,702 | Gross: $134.52M

They even teased a character near the end who has yet to make a full appearance in the MCU...

5. Tron: Legacy (2010)

7. Big Trouble in Little China (1986)

PG-13 | 99 min | Action, Adventure, Comedy

53 Metascore

A rough-and-tumble trucker and his side kick face off with an ancient sorcerer in a supernatural battle beneath Chinatown.

Director: John Carpenter | Stars: Kurt Russell, Kim Cattrall, Dennis Dun, James Hong

Votes: 154,073 | Gross: $11.10M

This is one of the few Carpenter films that I feel would have had great sequel potential. Unfortunately, I think it's been too long. Supposedly, the upcoming reboot isn't a full-on remake, so it might be a sequel of sorts? We'll see. If John Carpenter or Kurt Russell aren't involved, I'm not interested.

8. Dune (1984)

PG-13 | 137 min | Action, Adventure, Sci-Fi

41 Metascore

A Duke's son leads desert warriors against the galactic emperor and his father's evil nemesis to free their desert world from the emperor's rule.

Director: David Lynch | Stars: Kyle MacLachlan, Virginia Madsen, Francesca Annis, Leonardo Cimino

Votes: 179,658 | Gross: $30.93M

As many issues as this movie had (mostly with the producers forcing them to drop a ton of things from the book) I LOVED the production design and most of the casting. I would have enjoyed seeing Lynch's take on Dune Messiah.

But at least we did get the miniseries treatment of the first three books in the 2000s. Looking forward to Denis Villenueve's take on the material.

9. Mad Max: Fury Road (2015)

R | 120 min | Action, Adventure, Sci-Fi

90 Metascore

In a post-apocalyptic wasteland, a woman rebels against a tyrannical ruler in search for her homeland with the aid of a group of female prisoners, a psychotic worshiper and a drifter named Max.

Director: George Miller | Stars: Tom Hardy, Charlize Theron, Nicholas Hoult, Zoë Kravitz

Votes: 1,087,064 | Gross: $154.06M

I wouldn't say there NEEDS to be another Mad Max film, but George Miller has said he has plans for more, so I'd definitely like to see more.

10. Spaceballs (1987)

PG | 96 min | Adventure, Comedy, Sci-Fi

46 Metascore

A star-pilot for hire and his trusty sidekick must come to the rescue of a princess and save Planet Druidia from the clutches of the evil Spaceballs.

Director: Mel Brooks | Stars: Mel Brooks, John Candy, Rick Moranis, Bill Pullman

Votes: 206,632 | Gross: $38.12M

This is one that has good sequel potential, especially considering the new Star Wars films, but I'm not sure I'd want to see a sequel without John Candy.

11. The Goonies (1985)

PG | 114 min | Adventure, Comedy, Family

62 Metascore

A group of young misfits called The Goonies discover an ancient map and set out on an adventure to find a legendary pirate's long-lost treasure.

Director: Richard Donner | Stars: Sean Astin, Josh Brolin, Jeff Cohen, Corey Feldman

Votes: 298,537 | Gross: $61.50M

Too late for a sequel, honestly. Much too late. They should have made another back in the '80s. Supposedly, there are still plans for a sequel, but I won't hold my breath.

12. Give 'em Hell Malone (2009)

R | 96 min | Action, Adventure, Crime

A tough as nails private investigator (Malone) squares off with gangsters and their thugs to protect a valuable secret. Malone goes through hell to protect the information but he dishes some hell as well.

Director: Russell Mulcahy | Stars: Thomas Jane, Ving Rhames, Elsa Pataky, French Stewart

Votes: 6,633

This movie wasn't great, but I had fun with it and I remember it ending with a "to be continued..."

BUT WHEN?!

13. Citizen Toxie: The Toxic Avenger IV (2000)

R | 109 min | Action, Comedy, Fantasy

41 Metascore

The Toxic Avenger must defend his friends from his own evil alternate universe doppelgänger, The Noxious Offender.

Director: Lloyd Kaufman | Stars: David Mattey, Clyde Lewis, Heidi Sjursen, Paul Kyrmse

Votes: 6,187

Supposedly Troma wants to make another, but haven't secured the necessary funding. Meanwhile, it seems the remake still may happen...

14. National Treasure: Book of Secrets (2007)

PG | 124 min | Action, Adventure, Mystery

48 Metascore

Benjamin Gates must follow a clue left in John Wilkes Booth's diary to prove his ancestor's innocence in the assassination of Abraham Lincoln.

Director: Jon Turteltaub | Stars: Nicolas Cage, Diane Kruger, Justin Bartha, Jon Voight

Votes: 253,643 | Gross: $219.96M

Thought the ending meant a sequel for sure. But here we are, over ten years later...

15. The Adventures of Buckaroo Banzai Across the 8th Dimension (1984)

PG | 103 min | Adventure, Comedy, Sci-Fi

70 Metascore

Adventurer, brain surgeon, rock musician Buckaroo Banzai and his crime-fighting team, the Hong Kong Cavaliers, must stop evil alien invaders from the eighth dimension who are planning to conquer Earth.

Director: W.D. Richter | Stars: Peter Weller, John Lithgow, Ellen Barkin, Jeff Goldblum

Votes: 29,357 | Gross: $6.25M

Probably too late now, but it would've been fun.

16. Hellboy II: The Golden Army (2008)

PG-13 | 120 min | Action, Adventure, Fantasy

78 Metascore

A prince of the mythical world starts a rebellion against humanity in order to rule the Earth. Hellboy and his team must fight to stop him from locating the all-powerful Golden Army.

Director: Guillermo del Toro | Stars: Ron Perlman, Selma Blair, Doug Jones, John Alexander

Votes: 286,031 | Gross: $75.75M

I can't smile without another Del Toro Hellboy.

17. Manhunter (1986)

R | 120 min | Crime, Mystery, Thriller

75 Metascore

Former FBI profiler Will Graham returns to service to pursue a deranged serial killer dubbed "the Tooth Fairy" by the media.

Director: Michael Mann | Stars: William Petersen, Kim Greist, Joan Allen, Brian Cox

Votes: 80,973 | Gross: $8.62M

Okay, okay, this one is more of a "what if?" situation. Had Manhunter been successful upon release, how might have a Michael Mann version of The Silence of the Lambs turned out? Demme's film is perfect, but I've always been curious of how Mann would have done it.
