Spartacus: Vengeance: The Complete Second Season
Bloody, violent, explicit, dirty –- like its first season "Spartacus: Vengeance" does not withhold anything in the way of shock and awe. While many devoted viewers cannot help but miss the feral ferocity of the late Andy Whitfield’s performance, the new Spartacus, Liam McIntyre, brings a different sense of passion to the role. That’s appropriate for season two, which takes the gladiators out of the arena and into the wild, where they grow their escape into a full scale rebellion against the Roman Empire. Additionally, “Vengeance” allows other performances to shine even more brightly, most notably Nick Tarabay's portrayal of the scheming, traitorous Ashur and Lucy Lawless, who returns as a crazed self-styled prophetess and delivers all the way through the season’s alarming climax. The Blu-ray’s bonus footage takes fans deep into the production of each episode, including glimpses at what goes into the digital effects that create those slow shots of spurting blood that are the show’s signature. The release also includes extended content that did not air on Starz.
