- DirectorSteven SpielbergStarsDustin HoffmanRobin WilliamsJulia RobertsWhen Captain James Hook kidnaps his children, an adult Peter Pan must return to Neverland and reclaim his youthful spirit in order to challenge his old enemy. Now this one is a guilty pleasure from my childhood. It's not quite as good as most of Spielberg's other work, but it's very charming and has a sense of wonder kids and adults of all ages can enjoy.
R.I.P. Robin Williams. - DirectorBrian LevantStarsArnold SchwarzeneggerSinbadPhil HartmanA father vows to get his son a Turbo Man action figure for Christmas. However, every store is sold out, and he must travel all over town and compete with everybody else in order to find one.I'm not so sure why this one got so much hate from critics at the time. Sinbad and Schwarzenegger are both hilarious in this movie, and it's something my family and I love to watch around the holidays.
- DirectorRon HowardStarsJim CarreyTaylor MomsenKelleyOn the outskirts of Whoville lives a green, revenge-seeking Grinch who plans to ruin Christmas for all of the citizens of the town.Okay, so it's not as good as the Chuck Jones short film, but there are some scenes that capture the spirit of the original Dr. Suess story, and at least it stays true to its message (which is more than I can say for both the film adaptations of 'The Cat in the Hat' and 'The Lorax').
- DirectorSam WeismanStarsBrendan FraserLeslie MannThomas Haden ChurchA man raised in the jungle by apes falls in love with a wealthy American heiress. Not gonna lie, I used to watch this a LOT as a kid. Every time it'd play on Disney Channel, I'd watch it, and there are some scenes that still make me laugh as an adult.
- DirectorLes MayfieldStarsRobin WilliamsMarcia Gay HardenChristopher McDonaldAn absent-minded professor discovers "flubber," a rubber-like super-bouncy substance.Same as above.
- DirectorSidney LumetStarsDiana RossMichael JacksonNipsey RussellAn adaptation of "The Wizard of Oz" that tries to capture the essence of the African-American experience.I know this movie gets a lot of hate for its cheap look and the whiny pessimism of Diana Ross' character, but it still has a lot of fun musical numbers, and I enjoyed it when I first saw it on Turner Classic Movies.
R.I.P. Michael Jackson. - DirectorPhil NibbelinkSimon WellsDick ZondagStarsJohn GoodmanCharles FleischerBlaze BerdahlA time traveling scientist goes back to prehistoric times and feeds dinosaurs a magic cereal that increases their intelligence - next they land in modern New York City for a series of comic adventures.Yeah, I know that the plot of this movie is pretty stupid (dinosaurs get smart from eating "Brain Grain" cereal? WTF?), but I used to be obsessed with dinosaurs as a kid, so I loved the idea of kids being able to see dinosaurs in the modern world. There are even a few scenes that still make me tear up to this day (I'm kind of sentimental when it comes to these kind of movies).
- DirectorDon BluthGary GoldmanDan KuensterStarsGlen CampbellChristopher PlummerSorrell BookeIn order to defeat the wicked Grand Duke of Owls, a young boy, transformed into a cat, teams up with a group of barnyard animals to find the rooster who can raise the sun. This is easily one of Don Bluth's weaker films. The voiceover narration is forced and unnecessary, the plot is nonsensical, but its crazy over-the-top insanity is the reason I keep coming back to it. There's a lot of genuinely funny lines, it's got a stellar voice cast, and of course, some GORGEOUS Don Bluth animation.
- DirectorDon BluthGary GoldmanStarsMartin ShortJim BelushiAnnie GoldenHubie (Martin Short) must present his special pebble to Marina (Annie Golden) before the pebble festival is over, or lose his chance forever.Same as above.
- DirectorJoe PytkaStarsMichael JordanWayne KnightTheresa RandleIn a desperate attempt to win a basketball match and earn their freedom, the Looney Tunes seek the aid of retired basketball champion, Michael Jordan.Same as above, only not a Don Bluth film.
- DirectorAnnabel JankelRocky MortonStarsBob HoskinsJohn LeguizamoDennis HopperTwo Brooklyn plumbers, Mario and Luigi, must travel to another dimension to rescue a princess from the evil dictator King Koopa and stop him from taking over the world.So...here's a funny story. I didn't see this movie until after I saw the Nostalgia Critic's review, several years ago, and to be quite honest, it really wasn't as bad as he claimed. Sure, some of the acting was pretty bad and the bluescreen effects look cheesy, but the plot was unique and interesting, and the set designs look fantastic. It probably sucks as a Mario movie, but as a cheesy 90's sci-fi B-movie, it's not that bad.
- DirectorRonny YuStarsRobert EnglundKen KirzingerKelly RowlandFreddy Krueger and Jason Voorhees return to terrorize the teenagers of Elm Street. Only this time, they're out to get each other, too.I mostly like this movie for the fight scenes, the soundtrack, and for introducing me to the 'Nightmare on Elm Street' and 'Friday the 13th' franchise. It's a fun popcorn flick I enjoy watching every Halloween.
- DirectorArna SelznickJay MillerDick SchneiderStarsGeorgia EngelMickey RooneyJackie BurroughsThe Care Bears team up with a troubled brother and sister who just moved to a new town to help a neglected young magician's apprentice whose evil spell book causes sinister things to happen.Yes, I know this movie's meant for preschoolers, and I know it's very cheesy and schmaltzy, but I don't care. The villain is dark and badass, and the film itself has a very positive message on how you should treat others, and always do the right thing.
- DirectorDale SchottStarsMaxine MillerPam HyattHadley KayThe Care Bears try to help a young girl at summer camp who, in an effort to revamp her dorky social status to agility and skill, enters into a sinister bargain with a shape-shifting demon posing as a young boy.Same as above.
