2013 Golden Globes: Surprises, Snubs and Salutes4 of 12
Surprise: While nobody questioned the inclusion of HBO's "Girls (2012)" among the major comedy nominees, it was a shocking upset to see the comedy best "Modern Family (2009)" and "The Big Bang Theory (2007)", typical awards show favorites. Giving "Girls" the top TV comedy award was a bold choice, and a conscientious one, given the competition.
But the fact that it came after Lena Dunham's win in the Best Comedy actress category, beating Julia Louis-Dreyfus, and audience favorites Fey and Poehler, amounts to quite a coup for the up and comer.
"Congratulations, Lena," Fey said later, through feigned drunken stupor. "I'm glad we got you through middle school."
