1. Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs (1937)

Approved | 83 min | Animation, Adventure, Family

96 Metascore

Exiled into the dangerous forest by her wicked stepmother, a princess is rescued by seven dwarf miners who make her part of their household.

Directors: William Cottrell, David Hand, Wilfred Jackson, Larry Morey, Perce Pearce, Ben Sharpsteen | Stars: Adriana Caselotti, Harry Stockwell, Lucille La Verne, Roy Atwell

Votes: 215,302 | Gross: $184.93M

Animation was gorgeous. Total Disney classic. Villain was diabolical and believable, and the character of Snow White was, while brave enough to run away from her castle home, still sweet enough to help take care of the dwarves. The scene where they are giving her a memorial service? Made me cry. I just wish the prince had a bigger part besides just being the kiss to wake her.

2. Dumbo (1941)

G | 64 min | Animation, Adventure, Drama

96 Metascore

Ridiculed because of his enormous ears, a young circus elephant is assisted by a mouse to achieve his full potential.

Directors: Samuel Armstrong, Norman Ferguson, Wilfred Jackson, Jack Kinney, Bill Roberts, Ben Sharpsteen, John Elliotte | Stars: Sterling Holloway, Edward Brophy, Herman Bing, Billy Bletcher

Votes: 142,001 | Gross: $1.60M

I've loved this movie since I was a child, and I still do. For a character who has no dialogue through the entire movie, the amount of emotion and growing that Dumbo displays through the film is breathtaking. It is full of imagination, and continues to inspire children to embrace yourself and your flaws, and that what makes you different can make you happy. Only dislike is the random "Pink Elephant" song. It's a great scene and the imaginative animation is great, but, it gave me nightmares as a kid and it doesn't really tie into the film.

3. Bambi (1942)

G | 69 min | Animation, Adventure, Drama

91 Metascore

The story of a young deer growing up in the forest.

Directors: James Algar, Samuel Armstrong, David Hand, Graham Heid, Bill Roberts, Paul Satterfield, Norman Wright, Arthur Davis, Clyde Geronimi | Stars: Hardie Albright, Stan Alexander, Bobette Audrey, Peter Behn

Votes: 154,006 | Gross: $102.80M

Beautiful. Gorgeous. Perfect. This film, oh my God. The rain scene still gives me chills. And his mother, and being twitterpated, and then when he finally finds his place in the forest, just... Gah. This film just, oh my God. I cannot find anything wrong with it. At all. I love every inch of it. Bravo, Mr. Disney. Bravo.

4. Fun and Fancy Free (1947)

Approved | 73 min | Animation, Adventure, Comedy

66 Metascore

Jiminy Cricket hosts two Disney animated shorts: "Bongo," about a circus bear escaping to the wild, and "Mickey and the Beanstalk," a take on the famous fairy tale.

Directors: Jack Kinney, Hamilton Luske, William Morgan, Bill Roberts | Stars: Edgar Bergen, Dinah Shore, Luana Patten, Anita Gordon

Votes: 9,400

This was a childhood favorite of mine. The stories are adorable, and the animation is great, too. Although, it can be seen as less of a film and more of just cute cartoons before the age of television. My only dislike is the character of the Giant. He seems a bit *too* big and dumb of a character.

5. Cinderella (1950)

G | 74 min | Animation, Family, Fantasy

85 Metascore

When Cinderella's cruel stepmother prevents her from attending the Royal Ball, she gets some unexpected help from the lovable mice Gus and Jaq and from her Fairy Godmother.

Directors: Clyde Geronimi, Wilfred Jackson, Hamilton Luske | Stars: Ilene Woods, James MacDonald, Eleanor Audley, Verna Felton

Votes: 173,837 | Gross: $85.00M

This classic, while wonderful, has a few quirks. I don't like how Cinderella is always so sweet. I'm sorry, but, joy and positive thinking just don't seem real to me in a character. You'd think she'd had at least *some* resentment towards her step-mother and step-sisters. I mean, they tore apart the only thing she had left of her birth-mother! The Prince Charming character also didn't sit right with me. Dances all night with a woman he believes he's in love with, doesn't even bother to ask her name. Like, what? Still, beautiful movie, love the songs, and let's face it. Fairy Godmother is great.

6. Alice in Wonderland (1951)

G | 75 min | Animation, Adventure, Comedy

68 Metascore

Alice stumbles into the world of Wonderland. Will she get home? Not if the Queen of Hearts has her way.

Directors: Clyde Geronimi, Wilfred Jackson, Hamilton Luske, Jack Kinney | Stars: Kathryn Beaumont, Ed Wynn, Richard Haydn, Sterling Holloway

Votes: 153,939 | Gross: $1.07M

This movie always confused me as a kid. I might have been too young to comprehend it, sure. But even as an adult I look at and just think, "What?" every two minutes. I've read the book, and I've seen the silent film from the twenties. Those made much more sense than this colorful acid-trip. Even with all of the great characters and underlying lessons that Alice experiences through Wonderland, she doesn't carry any of it with her. She wakes up and just shakes it off. Cute film, great characters, but I just do not like Alice.

7. Peter Pan (1953)

G | 77 min | Animation, Adventure, Family

76 Metascore

Wendy and her brothers are whisked away to the magical world of Neverland with the hero of their stories, Peter Pan.

Directors: Clyde Geronimi, Wilfred Jackson, Hamilton Luske, Jack Kinney | Stars: Bobby Driscoll, Kathryn Beaumont, Hans Conried, Bill Thompson

Votes: 152,998 | Gross: $87.40M

Two words: Peter. Pan. Oh my word, he is the embodiment of immaturity. And having Wendy as the foil character? Priceless. She is convinced that not growing up and staying young forever is what she wants, but the longer she spends time with Pan, I think the more the audience realizes that she's already grown up. She just seems out of place in Never-land. A place where everything is a game or a fairy-tale, and there are mermaids and pirates galore, but she's trying to be logical about it. Never-land is a place for imagination and fun. Logical thinking has no place in such a land! But, I suppose wanting to belong is a fantasy in itself. I'm going to say this now; I don't like Tinkerbell. She's not cute, she's not spunky, she's a mean little b***h. She gets so jealous over a guy who's twenty times her size, and for what? I just do not like that character. And, oh, poor Captain Hook.... I think he is used way too much for comic relief, and far too little as an actual antagonist.

8. Lady and the Tramp (1955)

G | 76 min | Animation, Adventure, Comedy

78 Metascore

The romantic tale of a sheltered uptown Cocker Spaniel dog and a streetwise downtown Mutt.

Directors: Clyde Geronimi, Wilfred Jackson, Hamilton Luske, Jack Cutting | Stars: Barbara Luddy, Larry Roberts, Peggy Lee, Bill Thompson

Votes: 148,368 | Gross: $93.60M

This film is wonderful. Definitely one of my favorites. The characters are each so memorable and wonderful in each of their own ways, and the animation for them could not match any more perfectly. Even now, as I watch it for the millionenth time, the chase scene in the end always has me on edge. And, though the film is through the perspective of dogs, I feel that I can really relate to Lady. She's just a young lady trying to figure out the world beyond her backyard, while trying not to get her heart broken. She's strong and persistent, while having her moments where she just can't handle it. She's a great character. Tramp is just as efficient. You hate that you love him, then you hate that you hate him, but then in the end you just love him all over again. The fact that they were able to put so much energy and personality into a cast full of animals makes me wonder why the heck they didn't do that for some of their other characters in past films.

9. Sleeping Beauty (1959)

G | 75 min | Animation, Adventure, Family

85 Metascore

After being snubbed by the royal family, a malevolent fairy places a curse on a princess which only a prince can break, along with the help of three good fairies.

Directors: Les Clark, Clyde Geronimi, Eric Larson, Wolfgang Reitherman, Hamilton Luske | Stars: Mary Costa, Bill Shirley, Eleanor Audley, Verna Felton

Votes: 160,791 | Gross: $51.60M

The animation is fantastic. Just putting that out there. Although, the two leads are very weak. The Prince never says anything memorable, and Sleeping Beauty herself is really only that; a beauty. She has no memorable traits, quotes, or even abilities. She's a flat, static character who's only real talent is getting into trouble. However, the villain is simply diabolical. I love it. She's witty, sarcastic, and can turn into a full-fledged, vicious dragon for Pete's sake. I just wish her opponents could have matched her.

10. One Hundred and One Dalmatians (1961)

G | 79 min | Animation, Adventure, Comedy

83 Metascore

When a litter of Dalmatian puppies are abducted by the minions of Cruella De Vil, the owners must find them before she uses them for a diabolical fashion statement.

Directors: Clyde Geronimi, Hamilton Luske, Wolfgang Reitherman | Stars: Rod Taylor, Betty Lou Gerson, J. Pat O'Malley, Martha Wentworth

Votes: 182,121 | Gross: $144.88M

One of the cutest love stories I've seen. I'm not sure what is going on with Disney's odd obsession with dogs, though. But, I love how they love between both couples goes beyond the cliche chance-meeting, and on into marriage, and problems arising to challenge them. The fact that the dalmatians were willing to go to such lengths to find their babies was heartwarming. Especially from such a devilishly delightful antagonist. Seriously, daaaaaling, I loved Cruella DeVil. I'm not sure why Disney is so good at making bad guys, but I like it. In the end, the big happy family ending was one I definately enjoyed.

11. Mary Poppins (1964)

G | 139 min | Comedy, Family, Fantasy

88 Metascore

In turn of the century London, a magical nanny employs music and adventure to help two neglected children become closer to their father.

Director: Robert Stevenson | Stars: Julie Andrews, Dick Van Dyke, David Tomlinson, Glynis Johns

Votes: 185,969 | Gross: $102.27M

This film is so cute. First of all, I love Julie Andrews. And the characters of this are just beyond words. So fun and fanciful, yet serious when they need to be. That is the magic of their acting talents. The songs are wonderful, and the animated chalk sequence is one of my favorites. Wonderful. Simply wonderful.

12. Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer (1964 TV Movie)

TV-G | 47 min | Animation, Adventure, Comedy

A young reindeer Rudolph lives at the North Pole. His father is one of Santa's reindeer and it is expected that Rudolph will eventually be one too. However, he has a feature which is a setback and causes him to be ostracized: his red nose.

Director: Larry Roemer | Stars: Billie Mae Richards, Burl Ives, Larry D. Mann, Paul Soles

Votes: 37,461

The abominable snowman always creeped me out... Although, the stop motion is nicely done and it is a Christmas classic. Not really a tradition in my house, but, still cute. The female reindeer is sweet, but I detest the father. Granted, Rudolph is strange-looking, but disowning your own child the moment he's born? Harsh. And that snowman is still creepy. Just saying.
