According to "The Good Place," heaven is a little like "Dawson's Creek," where everyone has a soulmate. However, there's no romantic angst, since eternal significant others are pre-assigned. Eleanor, whose paperwork got mixed up with someone who actually deserves to be in the Good Place, finds herself with Chidi (William Jackson Harper), an ethics professor who is her moral opposite.
"Her road to learn how to be a good person is really learning about incorporating other people into her world view," says Bell. "There are, of course, moments where it's fun when Eleanor tries to derail [their] conversation, because in truth, when she asks him for help, she's got a lot of hard work to do that she doesn't want to do."
