- DirectorAlexander DukhonReferred to as "The Blue Heart of Siberia", Lake Baikal is the deepest lake on Earth, it magically lures different cultures to coexist and fuse peacefully within its realm of mind-blowing beauty. We set out to capture the essence of this unique area in the exquisite new documentary film "Baikal" directed by Alexander Dukhon. Baikal's filming commenced in February 2013 with eight adventurous film crew members embarking on a grueling ten-day trip through the Lake Baikal region. Located in central Asia, it was declared a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 1996, and also contains approximately twenty percent of the globe's unfrozen fresh surface water. The shoot took place in just seven days in extreme weather conditions of minus thirty degrees Celsius with few sunlight hours over the short winter days. The team made their way along the lake's western coast, visiting Olkhon Island and Ulan-Ude, the capital of the Republic of Buryatia in Russia. Beautiful soundtrack and powerful sound design reflect the eerie atmosphere of Lake Baikal's land and spirit. The film warmly depicts the human element in a sub-zero and unearthly landscape by sharing endearing stories of the local people whose hearts belong to it.

Part of it enduring legacy was the mass exodus of displaced sharecroppers. Musically, the Great Migration of rural southern blacks to Northern cities saw the Delta Blues electrified and reinterpreted as the Chicago Blues, Rhythm and Blues, and Rock and Roll. Using minimal text and no spoken dialog, filmmaker Bill Morrison and composer - guitarist Bill Frisell have created a powerful portrait of a seminal moment in American history through a collection of silent images matched to a searing original soundtrack.

- DirectorMark DecenaStarsGreg BunnJeff EhlertDan JamesAs the most dammed, dibbed, and diverted river in the world struggles to support thirty million people and the peace-keeping agreement known as the Colorado River Pact reaches its limits, this movie introduces hope. Can we meet the needs of a growing population in the face of rising temperatures and lower rainfall in an already arid land? Can we find harmony amongst the competing interests of cities, agriculture, industry, recreation, wildlife, and indigenous communities with rights to the water?Sweeping through seven U.S. and two Mexican states, the Colorado River is a lifeline to expanding populations and booming urban centers that demand water for drinking, sanitation and energy generation. And with 70% of the rivers' water supporting agriculture, the river already runs dry before it reaches its natural end at the Gulf of California. Unless action is taken, the river will continue its retreat - a potentially catastrophic scenario for the millions who depend on it. We meet Jeff Ehlert, a fly fishing guide in Rocky Mountain National Park, Colorado rancher Dan James, Delta restoration worker Edith Santiago, Navajo Council member Glojean Todacheene, Rifle Colorado Mayor Keith Lambert, Los Angeles native Jimmy Lizama and a group of Outward Bound teens rafting down the Colorado River as they all reflect a compelling new water ethic-one that illuminates how letting go of the ways of old can lead to a path of coexisting with enough for all.

- DirectorJames BecketStarsEcumenical Patriarch BartholomewVandana ShivaThe Amazon forest--The Green Ocean--is not only the source of the highest biodiversity of life on Earth, but it also acts as a massive hydrological pump that is essential to maintaining climate stability for the whole planet. In effect, the health of the river and the rainforest is fundamental to our survival. But in the last thirty years vast tracts of the Amazon forest have been decimated. To date an area larger than France has been destroyed, and though industry has been good for the Brazilian economy, the cost has been unprecedented drought in Amazonia, increased--and more intense--hurricane activity in North America, and the imminent demise of the Bolivian glaciers. In Amazon: The End of Infinity, representatives of the indigenous people of Amazonia, Western religious leaders, scientists, environmentalists and policy makers come together to examine the ecological reality in the Amazon basin, the global impact of deforestation and, importantly, to propose sustainable solutions to preserving the forest for the future. The film examines the historical split between religion and science in regards to the environment; the ecological lessons to be learned from the indigenous people of Amazonia; the interdependence of ecosystems and sustainable livelihoods for all those who live in the region; and how compensation for ecological services must be factored into economic equations regarding the ecosystems on which we all depend.
- The second programme shows how life along the Amazon River is dominated by the annual cycle of floods. In the dry season, female giant river turtles gather on exposed sand banks to lay their eggs. As broad reaches of river are cut off by sandbars, caimans and egrets take advantage of the bounty of fish trapped in shallow lagoons. Underwater infrared cameras film scavenging candiru and an electric eel hunting.

- DirectorMitch TurnbullStarsHugh BonnevilleFrom our Scottish lochs and golden reed beds to southern swamps and the ponds of our back gardens, Britain's "Water Worlds" are wild corners we rarely explore - but they are the most biodiverse places in Britain. The film opens with intimate views of a family of beavers in Devon. Hunted to extinction 500 years ago, these reintroduced rodents are returning to our waterways. We discover how these natural engineers alter their landscape not only to help themselves - but also to the benefit of other species. Ponds and lakes are the domain of our largest reptile, the grass snake. These two-metre predators are perfectly adapted to hunt in the shallows. On their menu are amphibians. We join a breeding frenzy of toads - but discover that their amorous intentions can have disastrous consequences. Water voles are also vulnerable to snakes. But they're more worried about each other... The Reed Warbler has gone to extraordinary lengths to avoid being eaten, building an intricate nest suspended in the reeds. But it's vulnerable to a more insidious killer - the cuckoo. We witness extraordinary scenes as a blind cuckoo chick ejects its adoptive siblings from the nest. Our wetlands are rich in insects and other creepy crawlies. We witness the magical moment a dragonfly emerges from its larva, and discover a rarely-seen mass roost in the Somerset Levels. Below the surface we find a Water Spider - as she undertakes the remarkable and time-consuming task of constructing her very own silk-lined SCUBA tank. October signals the arrival of millions of birds in our wetlands. In Pembrokeshire, huge flocks of starlings join the cattle for dinner, before they head off to the reed beds to sleep. But before they tuck in for the night they put on a breath-taking performance - not for show but to avoid the peregrine falcon lying in wait.

- DirectorLes GuthmanStarsLes GuthmanSimone KaufmannJohn SandayOne of the mythic journeys of our time, through the exquisite, complicated, surprising terrain of Vietnam and Cambodia to the great ruins at Angkor - the magnificent Khmer temples being painstakingly restored deep in the Cambodian jungle. It is a high definition odyssey up a river far distanced in time from the corridor into the heart of darkness portrayed in Francis Coppola's "Apocalypse Now." In Angkor, the World Monuments Fund's John Stubbs and John Sanday describe their 15-year restoration of one of the jewels of a city called "the eighth wonder of the world." As we go inside the 12th Century temple complex of Preah Khan, along with the other major sites of Angkor Wat, Bayon and Banteay Srei, we learn that the story of their work in Angkor is not only a story of the rebirth of Angkor after the horrors of the Khmer Rouge Era, but it also is a story of the rebirth of Cambodia.****************
