'Their Finest' Director Lone Scherfig: Five Beloved Movies About Movies3 of 6
Sunset Boulevard (Billy Wilder)
A film I almost saw by accident as a child. We were only allowed to watch television once a week, and my older sister usually insisted it must be a Humphrey Go-Kart film (that’s how she, slightly dyslectic, pronounced Bogart). We sensed that Sunset Boulevard might be at that level though he wasn’t in it. The sense of film noir with swelling music, the hand painted opening credits, the B-film opening had it all. The film is still stunning and wildly entertaining. It’s a big mistake that my daughter still hasn’t seen it.
