- DirectorFred M. WilcoxStarsWalter PidgeonAnne FrancisLeslie NielsenA starship crew in the 23rd century goes to investigate the silence of a distant planet's colony, only to find just two survivors, a powerful robot, and the deadly secret of a lost civilization. In my view, one of the all time great sci-fi films, and one of the greatest films of the 50's. 9/10
- DirectorStanley KubrickStarsSterling HaydenColeen GrayVince EdwardsCrook Johnny Clay assembles a five-man team to plan and execute a daring racetrack robbery. An early and groundbreaking film from a legend yet to be. 8/10
- DirectorCecil B. DeMilleStarsCharlton HestonYul BrynnerAnne BaxterMoses, raised as a prince of Egypt in the Pharaoh's household, learns of his true heritage as a Hebrew and his divine mission as the deliverer of his people from slavery.I've never considered myself to be a Christian, however I've always been interested in religious films as well as books. This is likely my favorite of all the Hollywood Biblical epics. 8/10
- DirectorJean-Pierre MelvilleStarsRoger DuchesneIsabelle CoreyDaniel CauchyAfter losing big, an aging gambler decides to assemble a team to rob a casino.8/10
- DirectorJohn FordStarsJohn WayneJeffrey HunterVera MilesAn American Civil War veteran embarks on a years-long journey to rescue his niece from the Comanches after the rest of his brother's family is massacred in a raid on their Texas farm.7.5/10
- DirectorVincente MinnelliGeorge CukorStarsKirk DouglasAnthony QuinnJames DonaldThe life of brilliant but tortured artist Vincent van Gogh.A biographic film of the life of Vincent van Gogh. The film has many strong aspects, including many of the performances and is definitely worth watching. At the same time however, this is hardly among the best biographical films. 7/10
- DirectorHarry HornerStarsAnthony QuinnCarol OhmartArthur FranzA night of terror in a sleazy nightspot, when an over-the-hill football star holds a thrill-seeking couple captive. For those who enjoy crime dramas of the 50's, this one is not to be missed. 7/10
- DirectorRichard BartlettStarsJock MahoneyLeigh SnowdenAnn HardingAn airline pilot believes he's a pilot who was killed during WW I.7/10
- DirectorDon SiegelStarsJohn CassavetesSal MineoJames WhitmoreSocial worker tries to befriend local slum gang.A pretty classic and typically heavy handed Hollywood 1950's don't become a hooligan' film. 6/10
- DirectorW. Merle ConnellStarsJoy ReynoldsGeri MoffattMarko PerriA girl visiting her sister in Hollywood hopes for a modeling career, but is tricked by pimps into working at a brothel.Really not a very good film, however it does have a few strong points. Anyone interested in the very controlled 50's exploitation films will want to see this. Not that there is much exploitation at all here, but that's the point; The 50's were a time of strong paranoid control by the American powers that be. This is just one of the many examples of that. 5/10
