R.I.P.: Top TV Character Deaths of 20146 of 10
Death by Hubris: Oberyn Martell, played by Pedro Pascal.
One could argue that those who have read George R.R. Martin's knew how the battle between the Viper of Dorne and the Mountain was going to end. But even those who did may have been shocked to actually see it play out onscreen, as much as we were thrilled by how dazzling Oberyn looked as he flipped and slashed through the air, bringing Gregor Clegane to his knees and slamming his spear through the monstrous knight's breastplate. It certainly looked like Oberyn was victorious.
Alas, The Mountain dragged the Viper down, and by the end of the battle, Oberyn's face resembled a watermelon that had recently made its acquaintance with a sledgehammer. What a pretty face it was, too.
