Bloodline - Season 1 Review
Season rating - 8.5-great
Highlight episode - Part 12
A really great season with some excellent performances. The first-half was a slow-burn and the overall feel of it did come across as soap-like at times, however, the character development and overall atmosphere that they established helped to propel the show for an amazing final half. Specifically parts 11 and 12 which were some of the most supsenseful television I've seen in awhile. Ben Mendelsohn was absolutely perfect as Danny and deserving of an Emmy for his terrfific performance that managed to make you both care for him and hate him silmutaneously. The decision to reveal his death from the beginning was narratively smart and helped build the tension, however, I'm not sure I liked the repeated flashforwards on the whole. The finale was pretty good at wrapping things up, although I would prefer them to not go down the Danny's son route. Honestly don't know how a second season could hold-up without the presence of Danny that made this first one so engaging, hopefully he'll have a lot of flashbacks relevant to the story. Oh, and Kyle Chandler was very good here, too.
