I Just LOVE Ingrid Bergman !!!
"Film will only become an art when its materials are as inexpensive as pencil and paper." - Jean Cocteau
"Every poem is a coat of arms. It must be deciphered." - Jean Cocteau
I just NEVER get tired of watching Ingrid Bergman perform. My opinion is that she 1 of the top 5 best actors of all time. It is my mission to view EVERY available film in which Ingrid Bergman has a role. This doesn't mean that I'll give a 10 star rating to EVERY film that she was in, but whatever film she's in, even a lousy film, it's worth viewing for me just so that I can see Ingrid do her thing.
Every film on this list has noted the LEAST EXPENSIVE option for viewing that film through online streaming. Some of the titles at Archive.org & YouTube.com are rare, just not being available anywhere else, either as an online streaming purchase or even as a DVD purchase.

In this film, Ingrid Bergman delivers one the most amazing acting performances that I've ever seen. Her character transitions from a villainous blackmailer who is self conscious about the disfiguring scar on her face, to a warm, loving, caring governess of a little rich boy, after a plastic surgery gives her back a normal looking face. Ingrid portrays this radical transformation of physical appearance, of character, & of personality in a smooth, nuanced, & quite convincing manner. This is truly a performance for the ages !!! - DirectorPer LindbergStarsIngrid BergmanGunnar SjöbergOlof WidgrenWhen Kerstin Norback is shot and gravely wounded by her lover, the trial causes a public scandal, forcing her to move to Stockholm under an assumed name. Charles Boyer as Gregory Anton.
Great performances by Bergman & Boyer but the stupid storyline was filled with too many unexplained "holes" & unreal coincidences. For instance, how did Anton even know about the "royal jewels" if they were secretly given to Paula's aunt by a member of the royal family, & why would Anton go thru the elaborate plot of marrying Paula just to get into the aunt's house to find the "royal jewels" when the house had been unoccupied for 10 years, during which time he could've easily entered & searched at his leisure??? Ingrid is still great to watch, however, as she's doing her thing.

Portrays a rather naïve, innocent view of Life, but also full of simple, homespun, inspirational, common sense, & optimistic Truths of Life as well, although in the drapery of Roman Catholicism. Too bad that such a truly heartwarming & somewhat realistic portrayal of life no longer fits into the Hollywood agenda of cynicism & sensationalism. Ingrid wasn't able to exhibit the full expressive range of her acting ability in this film, but nonetheless gave a vibrant, sincere, & quite believable portrayal of a Roman Catholic nun. Bing's crooning was rather pleasant to hear too. - DirectorAlfred HitchcockStarsIngrid BergmanGregory PeckMichael ChekhovA psychiatrist protects the identity of an amnesia patient accused of murder while attempting to recover his memory.Ingrid Bergman as Dr Constance Petersen.

"Ingrid Bergman".
Alfred Hitchcock or not, this screenplay is SO contrived, pretentious & unreal that it even surpasses the Fantasy genre. For instance, as someone with an MA in Psychology, I can tell you that no mental health pro would be stupid enough to think that they could really help someone that they were romantically involved with, & "JB's" cluster of "symptoms" don't even resemble any known psychiatric diagnosis. Ingrid is still great to watch, however, as she's doing her thing. - DirectorAlfred HitchcockStarsCary GrantIngrid BergmanClaude RainsThe daughter of a convicted German spy is asked by American agents to gather information on a ring of German scientists in South America. Not bad for a supposed "thriller", but no idea why they had to muddy the waters with an unnecessary, superficial, banal, & sappy romance between Alicia & her spy handler Devlin right from the start of the film. Ingrid is still great to watch, however, as she's doing her thing. - DirectorVictor FlemingStarsIngrid BergmanJosé FerrerSelena RoyleThe abbreviated life of the 15th-century French heroine.Ingrid Bergman as Joan of Arc.

Acting overall by the whole cast is a bit stiff & corny, but nonetheless dramatically effective, sincere, & believable. Superb period sets & period costumes. Don't know how historically accurate this film is, but I'm left with the feeling that the writers made a sincere & righteous effort. Ingrid, though she didn't show her usual breadth of expression, still delivered a solid & great performance. - DirectorRoberto RosselliniStarsIngrid BergmanMario VitaleRenzo CesanaKarin, a young woman from the Baltic countries, marries fisherman Antonio to escape from a prison camp. Looks like a Naples, Italy tourist promo film to me, with a dramatic storyline tossed in. The photography of the many sights of Naples in this film is truly spectacular, even in B&W, but this film really falls short of Rossellini's other cinematic efforts. Just not enough of a storyline here. Ingrid is still great to watch, however, as she's doing her thing. - DirectorJean RenoirStarsIngrid BergmanJean MaraisMel FerrerPolish countess Elena falls in love with a French radical party's candidate - a general - in pre-World War I Paris, but another officer pines for her. "Ingrid Bergman".
This film is a silly, pretentious excuse to portray two very attractive Hollywood stars as the sex symbols that they are engaged in passionate kisses, passionate embraces, & passionate love talk in the visually attractive settings of the social elite. Suitable for the titillation of goo goo eyed teenage girls, but hardly for the serious, cerebral film fanatic.Ingrid is still great to watch, however, as she's doing her thing. - DirectorMark RobsonStarsIngrid BergmanRobert DonatCurd JürgensA tenacious British woman becomes a missionary and runs an inn for travelling merchants in China during the Japanese invasion and the tumultuous years leading up to the Second World War.Ingrid Bergman as Gladys Aylward.
Available On Netflix.com.
After reading the biography of the real Gladys Aylward (which is available online as a free e-book) before viewing this film, I realized that this film is not only a POOR adaptation of the book, but it sensationalizes & sexualizes the life of a chaste, humble, & truky saintly woman, who thought only of God. Ingrid is still great to watch, however, as she's doing her thing. - DirectorAlex SegalStarsIngrid BergmanMichael RedgraveRalph RichardsonA scheming woman marries a nice but dimwitted intellectual out of convenience. The title "From The Mixed Files of Mrs. Basil E. Frankweiler" is NOT the title shown in the opening credits of the film. The title in the film itself is "The Hideaways".
A really delightful film about a small bro & sis who run away from home in the NYC suburbs & hideaway & live in the Metro Museum of Fine Art in NYC for a week. Many great scenes from inside the museum. A mystery about a statue of an angel possibly sculpted by Michelangelo donated to the museum by a reclusive, very old, widow living in NJ leads the kids to visit her to try to discover the true origin of the statue. A very touching & well done film. Ingrid, as the widow, plays only a small, but critical, role in this film. - DirectorIngmar BergmanStarsIngrid BergmanLiv UllmannLena NymanA devoted wife is visited by her mother, a successful concert pianist who had little time for her when she was young.dir/writer: Ingmar Bergman.
