- DirectorMasaaki TezukaKoji HashimotoTakao OkawaraStarsNoboru KanekoMiho YoshiokaMickey KogaMothra and her fairies return to Japan to warn mankind that they must return Kiryu to the sea, for the dead must not be disturbed. However Godzilla has survived to menace Japan leaving Kiryu as the nation's only defense. My top pick because of how everything went. The pacing, human characters, fight scenes, and soundtrack really brought out to correct perfectness. When it was first released, it was advertised as one of the ultimate battles ever and it is! Additionally, i really like how the appearance of the kaijus were changed for the better.
- DirectorIshirô HondaStarsAkira TakaradaYuriko HoshiHiroshi KoizumiWhen opportunistic tycoons refuse to return Mothra's egg to Infant Island, its people must decide if they are willing to answer Japan's own pleas for help when Godzilla arises near Nagoya. From the first time I saw this 'til now, it's still a great movie. The beginning was suspenseful, the shots were beautiful, and the fight is memorable. The monsters came to appear a bit quicker than most of the other Showa films, and props to see such realism in the battle.
- DirectorIshirô HondaStarsTakashi ShimuraAkihiko HirataAkira TakaradaAfter a dinosaur-like beast - awoken from undersea hibernation by atom bomb testing - ravages Tokyo, a scientist must decide if his similarly dangerous weapon should be used to destroy it.The first movie to ever star the King. It was dark, grim, and dramatic. Everything presented in here is considered tragic. This is what started the fear and legacy of Godzilla. Very little slow moments and it's a bittersweet film about what could have possibly happen from war.
- DirectorShûsuke KanekoStarsChiharu NiiyamaRyûdô UzakiMasahiro KobayashiA reporter, notorious for working on pseudo-documentaries, must uncover the legend of the three guardian monsters who must rise to defend Japan from the vengeful spirits within Godzilla. The only other film from Gojira that I consider a really dark Godzilla movie. The film speaks of lost souls, spiritual possessions, and how revenge can drive the worst in all of us. Godzilla is at his strongest here, as nothing really could defeat him, being powered by ghost of dead soldiers, it's a top-notched flick. Too bad this was considered the last "successful" Godzilla movie by both critics and fans.
- DirectorRyûhei KitamuraKoji HashimotoShûsuke KanekoStarsMasahiro MatsuokaRei KikukawaDon FryeGodzilla's fiftieth Anniversary project, in which Godzilla travels around the world to fight his old foes and his allies plus a new, mysterious monster named Monster X.This movie is severely underrated by fans. It's a homage to how the "old-style action" that the Showa Godzilla series presented. Even though the monster fights are mainly short and comes late, the human interactions were quite enjoyable and I love the whole fight between Ozaki and the Xilien leader. Almost every single monster from the beginning series reappears and Godzilla has never fought like before, including his technique of using the enemy as a punching bag.
- DirectorKenshô YamashitaTakao OkawaraKazuki ÔmoriStarsJun HashizumeMegumi OdakaZenkichi YoneyamaGodzilla is threatened by two new forces: Mogera - another UN built machine; and Space Godzilla - a beast spawned from Godzilla's particles in space. It might seemed like a little cliche to have an original vs clone style fight, but I find this decent. SpaceGodzilla is practically one of the strongest foes Godzilla faced, practically trapping him inside a death trap. Owning a legacy in video game battles, Space Godzilla is a favorite opponent of mine.
- DirectorTakao OkawaraStarsTetsuya BesshoSatomi KobayashiTakehiro MurataJapan is caught in the middle of a three way battle between Godzilla, the divine Mothra, and her dark counterpart Battra.Call me a Mothra fanboy, but I seriously enjoy her sharing the spotlight with Godzilla. And that's the reason why I love this one. Not only does she get a makeover of an appearance but she earns new "stronger" attacks. The best form of a Godzilla vs Mothra fight! I do really wish though, Mothra could be a bit more flexible, loosen up form the environmental theme a bit, and pace the time a bit faster to be a masterpiece.
- DirectorMasaaki TezukaIshirô HondaStarsMisato TanakaShôsuke TaniharaMasatô IbuJapan creates an artificial black hole device to trap Godzilla forever, but a test of the device creates new foes for Godzilla, car-sized dragonflies called meganula and their queen, Megaguirus. This movie brought in a new tricky opponent the Big G must face. Not only is she a Queen but with an army of flying dragonflies as well. To add more pressure into the battle a machine that creates black holes is set to malfunction onto Earth and possibly may be the final solution to Godzilla. What I also like in this movie are two things: kaijus eating humans and I quote "revenge is sweet".
- DirectorTakao OkawaraKazuki ÔmoriStarsMasahiro TakashimaRyoko SanoMegumi OdakaThe United Nations assembles the ultimate weapon to defeat Godzilla, while scientists discover a fresh pteranodon egg on a remote Japanese island.Marking the return of Rodan and MechaGodzilla makes this movie worthwhile, especially when you think there is finally a solution to rid of Godzilla. This is also the introduction of the 90s version of Minilla, if not better. MechaG is no longer controlled by aliens but now the G-Force and the intense battle between these 3 are unforgettable especially what happens with Rodan and Godzilla.
- DirectorIshirô HondaJun FukudaStarsAkira KuboJun TazakiYukiko KobayashiIn 1999, a race of she-aliens, the Kilaaks, brainwash Earth's monsters into attacking major cities, prompting a team of astronauts to stop the invaders while the monsters battle Ghidorah.Who else loves a monster movie filled with every single one that appeared in the Godzilla films previously. An all out world-domination set up by aliens by using the monsters as tools. Only to be backfired by the help of earthlings to meet up with the space demon.
- DirectorJun FukudaStarsAkira TakaradaKumi MizunoChôtarô TôginFour men searching for one's brother are shipwrecked on Letchi Island, where they encounter Godzilla, a monstrous lobster, and terrorists who have enslaved the natives of Infant Island. This film stands out because of how it had a more "summer" feel to the plot. Possibly the only film that has that feeling, which is why I love it. No Japan, but on a deserted island filled with hunters and surrounded by a giant lobster. Also it was the starter for a more funny moments within the film, the other was Monster Zero film.
- DirectorTakao OkawaraIshirô HondaKoji HashimotoStarsTakurô TatsumiYôko IshinoYasufumi HayashiThe aftermath of the Oxygen Destroyer brings forth Destoroyah, a beast intent on killing Godzilla, who is on the verge of a nuclear meltdown.A great way to end an era, a self-destructing monster versus a demon of death. Every second since his appearance, you can't help but keep thinking Godzilla was actually wipe out Japan when he clocks out. The same time, the plot becomes more apocalyptic when Destroyah is practically a walking oxygen-destroyer. Suspense sets the mood for an impending doom that only a miracle can truly resolve.
- DirectorKazuki ÔmoriKoji HashimotoStarsKôsuke ToyoharaAnna NakagawaMegumi OdakaTime travelers use Godzilla in their scheme to destroy Japan to prevent the country's future economic reign. The Hesei era was partially a time of doing remakes of old classic battles, this is one of them. Since his last appearance, Godzilla vs Gigan, King Ghidorah finally makes a return to our hero. While the human drama felt like something that belong in another space-theme movie I cant remember the name, it is the first time they took advantage to use Ghidorah as their ally instead. And that Mecha-King Ghidorah looks too cool to use in battle.
- DirectorMasaaki TezukaKazuki ÔmoriStarsYumiko ShakuShin TakumaKana OnoderaA new Godzilla causes the JSDF to construct a cyborg countermeasure from the original monster's remains. The beast's restless soul is discovered to inhabit the machine as the pilot must learn to find value in her own life. The new design for MechaGodzilla was one thing why I favor this film. Not only that but it was also the "return" of the original Godzilla of sorts with its skeleton as the structure for the robot. Additionally, this is the only movie where the Big G faces the robot on its own. Previous films with MechaG usually included at least one other kaiju in the fight.
- DirectorIshirô HondaStarsYôsuke NatsukiYuriko HoshiHiroshi KoizumiA detective protects a princess who prophecies Earth's destruction by a powerful alien dragon, which Mothra and her fairies - aided by Godzilla and Rodan - must battle against. The sequel to the highly-successful Godzilla vs Mothra. The real deal to see in here was Godzilla actually give into teaming up with Mothra and Rodan to defeat a stronger foe, Ghidorah. This was the start where the King of Monsters starts to make allies.
- DirectorJun FukudaYoshimitsu BannoIshirô HondaStarsHiroshi IshikawaYuriko HishimiMinoru TakashimaAfter a manga artist and his friends uncover a plot by his employers at an amusement park to lure aliens Ghidorah and Gigan to Earth, Godzilla and Anguirus set out to defeat them. This one took a while to grow onto me. After the success of Destroy All Monsters, it was decided a new film to be made with a new creature, in this case, Gigan. The return of aliens, an admirable team-up, and human interruption all worked well to create a balance plot for the showdown. I also thoroughly enjoyed the conversation between Godzilla and Anguirus.
- DirectorJun FukudaStarsTadao TakashimaAkira KuboBibari MaedaA reporter stumbles upon weather experiments on a tropical island, discovering giant mantises, a castaway woman, and an infant monster that Godzilla must learn to raise as a son.I only remember vividly the reason why I watched this was because I was into bugs. So seeing Godzilla and son battle a mutant mantis and giant spider was thrilling to the bug boy in me.
- DirectorIshirô HondaTom MontgomeryStarsTadao TakashimaKenji SaharaYû FujikiA UN reporter covers the appearance of a prehistoric monster that emerges from hibernation, while a pharmaceutical company seeks publicity with a monster of their own.Considered a classic movie, i don't know why, but still...this flick was okay in my opinion, but not truly the best of my favorites. I was expecting Kong to be more ferocious but it ends up being more feeble than Godzilla! The only reason I chose this was because it had its other moments to make up for it
