- DirectorAdam SmithStarsMatt SmithKaren GillanArthur DarvillWith his TARDIS in ruins, the newly-regenerated Doctor with the help of Amy Pond must save the world in less than twenty minutes from galactic policemen known as the Atraxi.A Doctor is introduced. Two companions are introduced, one twice. A new tone is set, a new dialogue structure is made the house style. And of all it is done in a beautifully shot, perfectly acted, hilariously scripted adventure - set around a small sleepy village. I can understand if you don't like any other episode for whatever reason but if you don't like this I probably have absolutely nothing in common with you.
- DirectorGraeme HarperStarsDavid TennantLindsay DuncanPeter O'BrienIn a Mars base the inhabitants are being infected by a mysterious water creature which takes over its victims. The Doctor is thrust into the middle of this catastrophe knowing a larger one is waiting around the corner.Russell T Davies took advantage of David Tennant's immense popularity to craft an astonishingly adult episode, that bares the darkness of The Doctor's soul. The supporting characters are great. David Tennant is extraordinary; he uses his charm to give a truly terrifying performance.
- DirectorEuros LynStarsDavid TennantCatherine TateAlex KingstonWith the library darkening, the Doctor takes on the Vashta Nerada while figuring out what links River Song to his future. Meanwhile, Donna finds out the mystery of Dr. Moon and the Girl.Packed to the rafters with compelling ideas including the introduction of River Song – someone who knows the Doctor from his future. The story is touching, scary, clever, funny and adventurous. The final monologue is gloriously beautiful.
- DirectorToby HaynesStarsMatt SmithKaren GillanAlex KingstonThe Pandorica opened, silence fell, and now planet Earth is left alone in the universe. Jumping through time, the doctor must figure out a way to bring back those who never were and save his friends from the collapse of reality. This This is the story that tells me if someone has a sense of fun about Doctor Who. How do you top the threat of the universe being destroyed by a reality bomb and the universe being destroyed by the Timelords? You take the next step and destroy it. Then you go nuts, throw in a fez, chuck in a stone Dalek and set the rescue of the destroyed universe in a museum with a handful of characters. Karen Gillan and Caitlin Blackwood are supreme, Alex Kingston is brilliant and Arthur Darvill is spectacular. However, all the astounding performances are overshadowed by the best single performance by any Doctor; Matt Smith gets a chance to portray every emotion possible and he makes some up for good measure. Okay, that last bit was a exaggeration but I do believe his performance is unmatched. Finally, Rory waiting for 2000 years is the greatest romantic gesture in Doctor Who history.
- DirectorDouglas MackinnonStarsPeter CapaldiJenna ColemanSamuel AndersonWhen ghosts of past and future crowd into their lives, The Doctor and Clara are thrown into an adventure that takes them to the very end of the universe.Doctor Who has been poetic and it will be poetic in the future. However, no episode will ever capture the love and understanding that this has for The Doctor and the show itself. This was pure art.
- DirectorAlice TroughtonStarsDavid TennantCatherine TateBillie PiperAs part of a well-deserved holiday, the Doctor takes a tour on a planet called Midnight. Little does he know that something is knocking on the walls, although the planet shouldn't be inhabited. Soon the passengers begin to panic when one of them is possessed.Astonishingly frightening and disturbing. A truly unique episode of the show that leaves the Doctor more exposed than ever. It is amazingly subtle and the use of speech is so simple, this was RTD's attempt at a Moffat idea and it is masterful. Also David Tennant is absolute perfection. Nothing has ever been more scary than seeing the Doctor helpless.
- DirectorAdam SmithStarsMatt SmithKaren GillanAlex KingstonThe Doctor, Amy, Dr. Song and the remaining soldiers manage to escape from the crashed ship and into the forest. The Angels attempt to create a rift in time and space such as the Doctor had found in Amy's room when they first met. Amy meanwhile is counting down from 10 minutes and the Doctor has determined that an Angel has taken over her mind.Moffat decided to bring back The Weeping Angels the only way he could; write it as an action sequel, he looked for inspiration from James Cameron's 'Aliens' . This is what Doctor Who would be as a film. It carries the reintroduction of River and the continuation of the crack with ease. It is weird to know this was Matt Smith's first performance he is typically impeachable.
- DirectorToby HaynesJulian SimpsonStarsMatt SmithKaren GillanArthur DarvillThe Doctor and his allies mount a rebellion against invaders who have been controlling humanity from the very beginning.A jaw-dropping series opener is magically unpredictable, the great script is topped by Toby Haynes' directing. The Silence are inventive villains and are used to great effect. Everyone in the cast raises their game (that is a huge statement) and the new actors are instantly likeable, especially Canton.
- DirectorCatherine MorsheadStarsMatt SmithKaren GillanArthur DarvillFive years after finally leaving the TARDIS, Amy and Rory, now married, live in the quiet little village of Leadworth; but everything is not what it would seem. The first time Amy and Rory relationship seems real instead of a joke. The witty script handles the characters and plot well also the whole thing is supported by Toby Jones, playing a perfect foil to Matt Smith.
- DirectorCatherine MorsheadStarsMatt SmithKaren GillanJames CordenAfter the TARDIS teleports without him, the doctor tries to find out what is stopping it from landing and traces it to a seemingly ordinary, two storey house.Beyond Hilarious. Gorgeously heart-warming. Brilliantly fun. Matt Smith is heartbreakingly perfect and James Corden (who I'm not a fan of) is fantastic in Gareth Robert's perfect script.
- DirectorRichard ClarkStarsMatt SmithKaren GillanArthur DarvillThe Doctor is lured to a sentient asteroid outside of the Universe by a Time Lord distress signal and soon realises his TARDIS is in grave danger.A gorgeous episode, very funny and very emotional. This story runs the entire emotional scale of who; it's funny, scary and poetic. Also, say it with me - ''Matt Smith is perfect''
- DirectorGraeme HarperStarsDavid TennantFreema AgyemanJohn BarrowmanSoon after bumping into old friend Jack Harkness, Martha and The Doctor head off to Malcassairo, a distant planet where an old professor will do anything he can to keep his people alive...
- DirectorGraeme HarperStarsDavid TennantCatherine TateFenella WoolgarWith a 1926 dinner party turning into a murder mystery, The Doctor and Donna Noble get the chance to meet Agatha Christie on the eve of her well-known 9-days disappearance. The plot is fun, the dialogue is brilliant, the actors are on top form and the episode is just incredibly pleasant. Here you can see the amazing chemistry that Catherine Tate and David Tennant have. Plus, Oscar nominee Felicity Jones has a great role.
- DirectorHettie MacdonaldStarsDavid TennantFreema AgyemanCarey MulliganSally Sparrow receives a cryptic message from the Doctor about a mysterious new enemy species that is after the TARDIS.Masterpiece! Nothing else to say about the episode that has become Doctor Who's calling card.
- DirectorNick HurranStarsMatt SmithDavid TennantJohn HurtIn 2013, something terrible is awakening in London's National Gallery; in 1562, a murderous plot is afoot in Elizabethan England; and somewhere in space an ancient battle reaches its devastating conclusion. The perfect way to kickstart the next fifty years of The Doctor's adventure.
- DirectorJames HawesStarsChristopher EcclestonBillie PiperAlbert ValentineThe gas mask zombies are on the rise as the plague spreads across war-torn London.A taut creepy story with the introduction of Captain Jack Bollocks, the script perfectly balances the terror with the comedy. The directing infuses the romance of the setting into a unique Doctor Who tale. The terror is ever present but as the plot moves towards its conclusion the episode loses some of its drive. The score is magnificent as is the revelation of who the mummy is, the Doctor is on top comedic form and Rose is great and Jack’s redemption is brilliant as well. This is the story that won over an entire generation!
- DirectorJoe AhearneStarsChristopher EcclestonBillie PiperJohn BarrowmanAs the Dalek fleet begin their attack on the Earth, the Doctor and his allies make one final stand.Perfectly balancing the mystery, comedy and drama, this episode re introduces the overarching plot brilliant and is still very interesting. Lynda is instantly likeable and the concept’s link to The Long Game is great. The other two characters are painfully forced and clearly cannon-fodder and the socially commentary is too obvious and on the nose. The drama is powerful and is perfectly constructed. The episode bathes in grand ideas; the power of the Dalek Emperor is balanced by the Doctor’s decision to do the right thing and send Rose away, the horror of the base massacre is juxtaposed with Rose’s loyalty and finally the Doctor’s cowardice is great character development for both Jack and the Doctor as they both accept their fate something they would not have done in their first appearance. The conclusion to the Bad Wolf arc is brilliant and serves as a great send off for the Ninth Doctor.
- DirectorCharlie PalmerStarsDavid TennantFreema AgyemanJessica HynesThe Doctor must deal with the repercussions of his decision to become human, as The Family Of Blood unveil themselves...This is the story of The Doctor and John Smith, strikingly different men, who are torn apart by a woman. This is the Doctor in love, this is him giving up a life, this is a result of his kindness and the conclusion shows the God-like power of the Doctor should he ever use it. Freema Agyeman and David Tennant tower of the rest of the magnificent cast.
- DirectorSaul MetzsteinStarsMatt SmithJenna ColemanAlex KingstonThe Doctor's friends are being kidnapped, which leads him to the fields of Trenzalore, where his greatest secret will be revealed and Clara's mystery will be solved.
- DirectorRichard ClarkStarsDavid TennantFreema AgyemanArdal O'HanlonThe Doctor takes Martha to New Earth, where she is kidnapped by two carjackers and taken to an underground Motorway, where the remainder of humanity on the planet live in perpetual gridlock.Brilliant world-building, nice characters, funny script and the return of the Marca are all welcome. The Face of Boe is a great return as are the cat nuns. The only downside is minor - the heavy handed 'drugs are bad' message.
- DirectorJames StrongStarsDavid TennantBillie PiperDanny WebbThe Doctor risks his life to investigate the pit and is forced to make a terrible decision, while Rose and the crew fend for their lives against the Legion of the Beast. The glorious idea is perfectly realised in this story. The dark, claustrophobic setting is matched by the unsettling Ood, the slow ramping up of plot is perfectly done. The incredible confrontation with the Beast is captivating and powerful the episode takes time to ponder above the deep mesmerising drop. The only weakness is Rose's clinginess.
- DirectorGraeme HarperStarsDavid TennantCatherine TateBillie PiperWhat would happen if Donna never met the Doctor? How would Earth handle the Racnoss, the falling Titanic or the Sontarans? Aided by a familiar blonde time traveler, Donna corrects the alternate time line from happening.
- DirectorJonny CampbellStarsMatt SmithKaren GillanTony CurranThe Doctor and Amy travel back in time to meet Vincent Van Gogh and face an invisible monster that only the painter can see. This is the most human Doctor Who has ever got, this is the most personal it has ever got to a character but it's done with humour and subtlety. This is a story that confronts the darkness of the human mind rather than that of the monster. Tony Curran is wonderful as Vincent and the gallery scene is one of the very best scenes in the show's long history and the episode ends with the truth and nothing else. The compassion and beauty of this makes it an episode that belongs in a gallery
- DirectorNick HurranStarsMatt SmithKaren GillanArthur DarvillAmy is trapped in a quarantine facility where time moves faster than in reality, while the Doctor is confined to the TARDIS. Can Rory save his wife in time?A love letter to the best couple to step in the Tardis. Karen Gillan is stellar and Arthur Darvill is astounding. The episode is not afraid to show the Doctor in a bad light and shows what can happen if you run away with a mad man in a box. The last five minutes is artful and the decision by Rory to let the old Amy in is why he is such an incredible character.
- DirectorJoe AhearneStarsChristopher EcclestonBillie PiperSteven BeckinghamThe TARDIS is drawn to an alien museum deep below the Utah desert, where a ruthless billionaire keeps prisoner the last of the Doctor's most fearsome enemies.A brilliantly powerful performance by Eccleston takes centre stage as we confront the war for the first time, and morality powers this episode a both The Doctor and The Dalek are confused and full of anger. However, Adam is petulant and is not charismatic enough to make you believe he has caught Rose’s attention.
