Shameless - Season 5 Review
Season rating - 8.5-great
Highlight episode - Crazy Love
A muddled season for sure, the first half was pretty good and Crazy Love presented the show at its best, the final scene there was tremendous. Bianca was also a welcome addition and Novakovic played her so well. Now, as for Fiona's storyline the whole getting married to Gus and love triangle thing was really stupid, and although Rossum was amazing as always she was really let down by the writers this season - I'm thankful she didn't end up with either of them and hope it stays that way. As for Debbie, her storyline was okay, the pregnancy thing not a bad route to go down depending how it's handled. Carl didn't get much to do but was still really fun. Kevin and Veronica making up saved that arc for me as I was totally against the latter to begin with, however, it worked on some level in the end. Now...Ian and Mickey's breakup scene was acted well, yes, but was it neccessary? No. Sure, Ian's bipolar and doesn't know what he's doing but the writer's didn't have to go that way. Plus Ian not caring about Sammi shooting after Mickey seemed really odd - by the way, she was mental this season and I hope that's the last of her. I've heard that Noel Fisher might not be returning and that would be pretty terrible, although I think there's a chance he could be back for the back-half of the season and if the writers can conjure up something as compelling as season 4 was for their relationship, because that was amazing TV, Crazy Love goes to prove this, then I'm all for it. My rating for the finale is pretty generous given my gripes, however, I'm optimistic the show will learn from the backlash they've had and grow out of this rather than deteriorate.
