Brandon Hardesty was born in Baltimore, MD on April 13th, 1987. He attended Baltimore Lutheran School and in his 6th year he was asked by his English teacher to be in the school play. He performed in two plays: The Crucible and George Washington Slept Here.
After graduating, he attended Stevenson University and Towson University, majoring in film. In 2006, when YouTube first gained popularity, Hardesty made videos in his parents' basement. The videos depicted Hardesty reenacting his favorite scenes from movies. They quickly grew in popularity, and in 2007, Hardesty had one of his videos featured in a Geico commercial.
In late 2007, Hardesty was contacted by a film producer who had seen one of his videos. He asked him to audition for an independent film: Bart Got A Room, starring William H. Macy and Cheryl Hines. Hardesty got the part, and subsequently got representation.
In early 2008, Hardesty made five consecutive appearances on Jimmy Kimmel Live featuring his own reenactments of the five Best Picture nominees that year. After that, stayed on the east coast and worked in a grocery store until he got a lead role in American Pie Presents: The Book Of Love, as well as a supporting role in Bucky Larson: Born To Be A Star. Hardesty has lived bicoastally in Los Angeles, CA and Baltimore, MD ever since. He continues to make YouTube videos, but his focus has mostly been on auditioning for roles in feature films and television shows.- Born Robert Leroy Parker in Beaver, Utah, in 1866, the outlaw later to become famous as Butch Cassidy (he took the name Butch because he was once a butcher and the name Cassidy in honor of a local rancher who had befriended him as a youth) started his criminal career at an early age, stealing livestock when he was just a teenager. He soon left the Beaver area and hooked up with other rustlers and thieves, eventually forming a gang known as The Wild Bunch, which included such well known desperadoes as The Sundance Kid and Harvey Logan. The gang began robbing banks, payrolls and trains all over Colorado and Utah, and became so proficient at it that the Pinkerton Detective Agency was hired to run them down, and in addition a $4000 bounty (a huge sum at the time) was placed on their heads. The gang soon broke up and Cassidy and his partner The Sundance Kid headed to Mexico. Even that wasn't far enough, however, as both the Pinkerton detectives and professional bounty hunters were soon in Mexico looking for them, so they fled to Argentina, where they set up shop--under assumed names--as cattle ranchers. The ruse worked for a while until one night The Sundance Kid, under the influence of too much alcohol, began to brag about the many robberies they had gotten away with. A few days later a bank in a nearby town was robbed by two English-speaking bandits, and suspicion immediately fell upon the two, who were forced to pull up stakes and flee again. They wound up in Chile, and though they made several attempts to settle down and give up their lives of crime, circumstances dictated otherwise. They eventually crossed into Bolivia with plans to rob a bank in the small town of San Vicente. A hotel worker, having heard that the police were on the lookout for two English-speaking bank robbers, became suspicious of the pair and informed the local police chief. The chief and two of his men approached them in a restaurant, whereupon the Sundance Kid opened fire, killing one of the officers. The two gunmen fled and the police requested help from an army cavalry regiment that happened to be in town, and the soldiers and police soon trapped Cassidy and the Sundance Kid in a small house, where, after an all-night siege and gun battle, the two were found dead the next morning of gunshot wounds. Although rumors have surfaced over the years claiming that the pair actually escaped the battle and returned to the US, so far no real evidence has surfaced to conclusively prove that story.

Born in Vicksburg, Mississippi on April 13, 1944, Charles Burnett moved with his family to the Watts area of Los Angeles at an early age. He describes the community of having a robust mythical connection with the South as a result of having so many Southern transplants, an atmosphere which has informed much of his work. Burnett went to UCLA, where he earned his Masters of Fine Arts in Filmmaking. There, he was greatly influenced by professors Elyseo Taylor-creator of the Ethno-Communications department-and Basil Wright-the English documentarian famous for Night Mail and Songs of Ceylon. He became fast friends with fellow future greats like Haile Gerima (Sankofa), and Julie Dash (Daughters of the Dust), collaborating with them and others on many projects. Burnett cites Jean Renoir, Satyajit Ray, and Sidney Lumet (The Pawnbroker) as important influences. In 1988, Burnett received the prestigious John D. and Catherine T. MacArthur Fellowship (also known as the "genius grant"), which helped him support his young family and concentrate on his then, newest script. With Danny Glover parlaying his success in Lethal Weapon, they wrangled funding for the production of Burnett's To Sleep With Anger. Glover, playing a vaguely supernatural Southern trickster overstaying his welcome while visiting family, found perhaps his most critically acclaimed role. It won the 1991 Independent Spirit Awards for Best Director and Best Screenplay for Burnett and Best Actor for Glover. The Library of Congress selected Killer of Sheep and To Sleep With Anger to be inducted into the National Film Registry. The National Society of Film Critics honored Burnett for best screenplay for To Sleep With Anger, making him the first African-American to win in this category in the group's 25year history. While the Los Angeles Times reported that Burnett's movie reminded viewers of Anton Chekov, Time magazine wrote: "If Spike Lee's films are the equivalent of rap music - urgent, explosive, profane, then Burnett's movie is good, old urban blues." The film also received a Special Jury Recognition Award at the 1990 Sundance Film Festival and a Special Award from the Los Angeles Film Critics Association. Both Burnett and Glover were nominated for New York Film Critics Circle Awards. In 1997, the Film Society of Lincoln Center and the Human Rights Watch International Film Festival honored Burnett with a retrospective, Witnessing For Everyday Heroes, presented at New York's Walter Reade Theater of Lincoln Center. Burnett has been awarded grants from the Guggenheim Foundation, the Rockefeller Foundation, the National Endowment for the Arts and the J. P. Getty Foundation. He is also the winner of the American Film Institute's Maya Deren Award, and one of the very few people ever to be honored with Howard University's Paul Robeson Award for achievement in cinema. The Chicago Tribune has called him "one of America's very best filmmakers" and the New York Times named him "the nation's least known great filmmaker and most gifted black director." Burnett has even had a day named after him - the mayor of Seattle declared February 20, 1997, as Charles Burnett Day. Burnett directed a documentary on Nat Turner and one chapter (Warming by The Devil's Fire) of the six part documentary, The Blues, a production of Martin Scorsese's CPA Productions with OffLine Entertainment and in November of 2017 Charles Burnett received an Academy Award for his life's work. His latest film is entitled, "The Power To Heal", a documentary about the integration of hospitals during the Civil Rights Era.- Charles Robinson graduated Phi Beta Kappa and magna cum laude from Princeton in 1958. His theatrical family opened his acting career, at age three, on Broadway. After college, his first film was Splendor in the Grass (1961), to be followed by The Singing Nun (1966), Shenandoah (1965) and Take Her, She's Mine (1963). After "Tall Story", "The Pleasure of His Company" and "The Good Soup", all on Broadway, plus an army hitch, he and Mrs. Robinson set up house in Los Angeles--close to film work and his television appearances on, for instance, Laramie (1959), Alfred Hitchcock Presents (1955) and Bachelor Father (1957).

He was a scene-stealer par excellence who exemplified triumph over adversity. The actor born as Clark Tinsley Middleton made a success of his profession though afflicted with crippling juvenile rheumatoid arthritis from the age of four. There were frequent recurring bouts of the ailment affecting his hands, arms and hips. In 1997, he related his struggles in an autobiographical one-man play, Miracle Mile, which he performed off-Broadway. Despite diminutive size and almost complete lack of neck movement, Middleton began performing in amateur dramatics while still at junior college and became determined to make a proper career of it. He later quit university in Arizona and at the age of 25 moved to New York to study acting under Uta Hagen and then Geraldine Page (who became his mentor) at the Mirror Repertory Theater. He then spent 15 years on stage with the New York Shakespeare Festival, the Circle Repertory Theater, the Mark Taper Forum in Los Angeles and various regional theatres before making his screen debut in 1983.
At first, he experienced difficulties being cast. In his own words: "They don't know what to do with me. I'm limited not by what I can do, but by what people see me as." Nevertheless, in the course of his all-too-brief career, Middleton managed to create a fascinating array of feisty, memorable characters, especially in the genre of science fiction. He is perhaps best known as James Spader's grumpy DMV tracker Glenn 'Jelly Bean' Carter in The Blacklist (2013). Equally good value was his recurring role in Fringe (2008) as an eccentric dealer in rare, antiquarian books whose esoteric knowledge often tended to prove vitally important. He made a briefer appearance in Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. (2013) as Pretorious Pryce, an officious customs inspector on the planet of Kitson and was Sherilyn Fenn's perennially tired accountant husband in Twin Peaks (2017). Add to that a host of small movie character parts in high profile releases like Serendipity (2001), Kill Bill: Vol. 2 (2004), Sin City (2005) and Snowpiercer (2013).
A lifelong member of the Actor's Studio, Clark Middleton died unexpectedly at the age of 63 from the mosquito-borne disease West Nile Virus.- Actress

Conrad Phillips was born on 13th April 1925 and, after serving in the Royal Navy (having forged the birth date on his ration book to make himself appear older and thus eligible to enlist) during the Second World War, turned to acting as a career. He 'trod the boards', appearing in films (TV and cinema) and the stage between 1948 and 1991 when pain in his back, hip and both knee joints (arising as a result of accidents during his acting), brought about a premature end to his acting career. He is best known for his lead role in the long-running TV series, William Tell, which had 39 episodes between 1958 and 1959.
Conrad married his second wife, Jennie, in July 1968 and at the time of his death they were living in Chippenham, Wiltshire. Before that they bought and ran a dilapidated Scottish hill farm called Skeoch. Jennie wrote a book about the time there and this was on sale in both paperback and ebook formats. After Skeoch, they moved to France and spent 20 years restoring an old French barn. Conrad was also an author.
To aid his musings, Conrad loved the occasional whisky or, better still, a cold pint of the local brew, Wadworths 6X.- Corinne Cole was born on 13 April 1937 in Brentwood, California, USA. Howard Keel was the Errol Flynn and Clark Gable of "golden age" movie musicals back in the 1950s. With a barrel-chested swagger and cocky, confident air, the 6'4" brawny baritone Keel had MGM's loveliest songbirds swooning helplessly for over a decade in what were some of the finest musical films ever produced.
Born Harry (or Harold) Clifford Keel in Gillespie, Illinois, in 1919 to Homer Charles Keel and Grace (Osterkamp) Keel, and the brother of Frederick William Keel, his childhood was unhappy, his father being a hard-drinking coal miner and his mother a stern, repressed Methodist homemaker. When Keel was 11 his father died, and the family moved to California. He later earned his living as a car mechanic, then found work during WWII at Douglas Aircraft in Los Angeles. His naturally untrained voice was discovered by the staff of his aircraft company and soon he was performing at various entertainments for the company's clients. He was inspired to sing professionally one day while attending a Hollywood Bowl concert, and quickly advanced through the musical ranks from singing waiter to music festival contest winner to guest recitalist.
Oscar Hammerstein II discovered Keel in 1946 during John Raitt's understudy auditions for the role of Billy Bigelow in Broadway's popular musical "Carousel." He was cast on sight and the die was cast. Keel managed to understudy Alfred Drake as Curly in "Oklahoma!" as well, and in 1947 took over the rustic lead in the London production, earning great success. British audiences took to the charismatic singer and he remained there as a concert singer while making a non-singing film debut in the British crime drama The Hideout (1948) (aka "The Small Voice"). MGM was looking for an answer to Warner Bros.' Gordon MacRae when they came upon Keel in England. They made a great pitch for him and he returned to the US, changing his stage moniker to Howard Keel. He became a star with his very first musical, playing sharpshooter Frank Butler opposite brassy Betty Hutton's Annie Oakley in the film version of the Broadway musical Annie Get Your Gun (1950). From then on Keel was showcased in several of MGM's biggest extravaganzas, with Show Boat (1951), Calamity Jane (1953), Kiss Me Kate (1953) and (reportedly his favorite) Seven Brides for Seven Brothers (1954) at the top of the list. Kismet (1955) opposite Ann Blyth would be his last, as the passion for movie musicals ran its course.
Keel managed to move into rugged (if routine) action fare, appearing in such 1960s films as Armored Command (1961), Waco (1966), Red Tomahawk (1967) and The War Wagon (1967), the last one starring John Wayne and featuring Keel as a wisecracking Indian, of all things. In the 1970s Keel kept his singing voice alive by returning full force to his musical roots. Some of his summer stock and touring productions, which included "Camelot," "South Pacific", "Seven Brides for Seven Brothers", "Man of La Mancha", and "Show Boat", often reunited him with his former MGM leading ladies, including Kathryn Grayson and Jane Powell. He also worked up a Las Vegas nightclub act with Grayson in the 1970s.
Keel became an unexpected TV household name when he replaced Jim Davis as the upstanding family patriarch of the nighttime soap drama Dallas (1978) after Davis' untimely death. As Clayton Farlow, Miss Ellie's second husband, he enjoyed a decade of steady work. In later years he continued to appear in concerts. As a result of this renewed fame on TV, Keel landed his first solo recording contract with "And I Love You So" in 1983. Married three times, he died in 2004 of colon cancer, survived immediately by his third wife, three daughters and one son.- Actor

When she was a child, Jeanne Balibar wanted to be a dancer. She was already attracted by the stage and the show and admired great opera singers like Maria Callas. As she was going to take the last exam for becoming a lecturer, she decided not to go to the exam but to take an exam to become a stage actress. She went to the French academy for young actors, in Paris (like The Actors Studio, as if acting isn't taught in the same way) and she passed the very difficult exam without having previously acted in any play nor movie. When she finished her studies for acting, she started to work for La Comédie Française, a world-known French company which only produces French classics. She played the part of Elvire, from Molière's "Don Juan" in the biggest French stage festival: the festival of Avignon. She was really acclaimed by the French critics and public. She started to play in French cinema with directors such as Arnaud Desplechin ("My sexual like or how I get into an argument") or Olivier Assayas ("Last August, Early September" for which she earned a best actress award in the Spanish movie festival of San Sebastian). As though, these parts were dramatic, she was also wonderful in comedies such as "Ca ira mieux demain" (Jeanne Labrune) which made her more famous. She was really acclaimed for these movies but not very popular, as these films weren't blockbusters. The film which really made her famous is Rivette's "Who Knows" where she played the lead role of Camille, a French stage actress and created a very impressionating and innovative way of acting. She replaced Emmanuelle Béart for this part and became a very respected actress. She started to sing in 2003 and she did a record called "Paramour" with songs such as "Johnny Guitar" (from the Nicholas Ray's movie), "Pearl" (from "The Night of the Hunter") or even "Hélas" (a duet with Maggie Cheung who acted with her in "Clean", by Olivier Assayas). She is still a stage actress and started an international career with Winterbottom's "Code 46" (she played the part of Tim Robbin's girlfriend). As if she is not the most popular French actress, she is one of the most talented and her talents seem to have no limit: stage and movie acting, singing and soon dancing in Berliner's "Fred Astaire".- Jett Travolta was born on 13 April 1992 in Los Angeles, California, USA. Brunette, blue-eyed Joyce Meadows was one of three siblings, born of German ancestry as Joyce Johanna Burger in Alberta, Canada, to Joseph Henry Burger (1908-1989) and Johanna Louise Schelske (1913-1972). Being raised on a farm, she learned to ride from early childhood, a skill which later served her well during many appearances in television western series like Tombstone Territory (1957), The Texan (1958), Cheyenne (1955) and Tales of Wells Fargo (1957). After the family moved to California, Joyce went to school in Sacramento. There, she formed a song-and-dance act with a girlfriend, won Miss Sacramento and Miss Hollywood beauty pageants back- to-back and made her stage debut as Juliet in a production of Romeo and Juliet at the Little Eaglet Theater. Joyce completed her musical training in San Francisco at the Geary Conservatory (since 2006, known as the American Conservatory Theater). She also taught herself to play the guitar.
Joyce subsequently pursued further acting studies under Jeff Corey in Hollywood and Stella Adler in New York. She acted on stage at the Pasadena Playhouse and later in Glendale, where she was spotted by an agent during a performance and signed under contract. Her first film appearance was opposite John Agar in the AIP low budget western Flesh and the Spur (1956). She later co-starred with Agar again in the independently-produced (cultish) sci-fi The Brain from Planet Arous (1957) and in the western Frontier Gun (1958). For the most part, Joyce was gainfully employed in television, where she enjoyed recurring or semi-regular roles as the assistant to George Nader's scientist in The Man and the Challenge (1959) and as a saloon owner in Two Faces West (1960). Between 1958 and 1965, she was a frequent guest actress in shows like Markham (1959), Sea Hunt (1958), Alfred Hitchcock Presents (1955), 77 Sunset Strip (1958) and Perry Mason (1957).
Said to have been 'disillusioned with Hollywood', Joyce took a lengthy hiatus from the screen in the mid-60s to go on tour in classic theatrical plays like King Lear, The Glass Menagerie, Richard III and The Rainmaker. Additionally, she did some instructional work at drama workshops in different states. A comeback to screen acting followed in the early 90s which included repeat appearances on the soaps Santa Barbara (1984) and Days of Our Lives (1965).- Judith Gabbani is known for Los secretos de papá (2004), Cara a cara (1983) and Atracción peculiar (1988).

Kate Lambert was born in Charlottesville, Virginia, USA. She is an actress and producer, known for Teachers (2016), Teachers (2012) and The Second City Presents: The Last Show Left on Earth (2020).- Kelli Giddish is an American actress from Cumming, Georgia. She is primarily known for starring roles in crime-drama television series. She portrayed the protagonist Dr. Kate McGinn in the short-lived series "Past Life" (2010). and had the leading role of Deputy Marshal Annie Nolan Frost in "Chase" (2010-2011). Since 2011, she has had the regular role of Detective Amanda Rollins in the long-running series "Law & Order: Special Victims Unit" (1999-)
Giddish was raised in Georgia. Her paternal grandfather regularly took her with him when attending the performing arts venue Fox Theatre in Atlanta, and he encouraged her pursuit of an acting career. Giddish attended the Forsyth Central High School, and she became a favorite pupil of the drama teacher Yatesy Harvey. Giddish was regularly cast in Harvey's plays at a local community theater, and she participated in sleepover drama camps. In 1998, Giddish was the State Literary Champion for Girls' Dramatic Interpretation.
Giddish received her college education at the University of Evansville in Indiana, where she majored in theater performance. Following her college graduation, she moved to New York City and started appearing in Broadway plays. Giddish had her first regular television role in 2005, when cast as the new character Diana "Di" Henry in the soap opera "All My Children". Giddish left the series in September 2007. A 2008 episode depicted Henry's violent death, but had the character portrayed by Heather McKenzie.
Giddish had her first major television role in the crime-drama series "Past Life" (2010). In the series, Dr. Kate McGinn believes in reincarnation. She investigates modern crime cases, and uses information from the past lives of the people involved in each case. The series was inspired by the novel "The Reincarnationist" (2007) by M. J. Rose. Only 7 episodes were produced, and two of them were left unaired.
Giddish was next cast in a leading role in the crime-drama series "Chase" (2010-2011). The series focused on a team of U.S. Marshals who were regularly tracking down fugitives. The series only lasted for 18 episodes, but Giddish was praised for her portrayal of the main character. Giddish was subsequently cast in the regular role of Amanda Rollins in "Law & Order: Special Victims Unit" . The character was introduced during an attempted revamp of the series, following the departure of co-star Christopher Meloni. The character dynamic of the series was rapidly changing, and new characters were being introduced.
Giddish continued to play Amada Rollins regularly from the 13th season of SVU to its 24th, and she became one of the longest-serving members of the cast. She has also portrayed Amanda in guest appearances at a number of other series, including "Chicago Fire", "Chicago P.D.", Law & Order: Organized Crime, and "Law and Order". The series often contrasted the life and career of Amanda with that of her younger younger sister Kim Rollins (played by Lindsay Pulsipher), a mental patient with bipolar disorder.
In 2015, Giddish married Lawrence Faulborn at a wedding ceremony in New Smyrna Beach, Florida. She gave birth to two sons, between 2015 and 2018. She divorced Faulborn in 2018. In 2021, Giddish married her second husband, Beau Richards. In late May 2023, Giddish announced that she was pregnant again, and expecting her third child. At that time, she was 43-years-old. - Actor

Legendary voice-over artist, narrator, and disc jockey Ken Nordine was born on April 13, 1920 in Cherokee, Iowa, the son of an architect. Nordine attended Lane Technical College Prep High School and the University of Chicago. Blessed with an exquisitely deep, rich, soothing, and resonant baritone voice, Ken was heard on "The World's Great Novels" and other Chicago radio programs in the 1940s. He married his wife Beryl Vaughan on July 27, 1945; the couple had three sons. Nordine achieved his greatest popularity in the 1950s at the peak of the beatnik jazz and poetry movement with his delightfully hip and creative free-form spoken-word aural vignettes on such albums as "Word Jazz," "Son of Word Jazz," "Love Words" and "My Baby." These albums showcase Ken's sublimely smooth and mellifluous narration over cool jazz music by the Chico Hamilton jazz group. His vignettes ranged from the lightweight and humorous to the more dark and paranoid to just plain odd and dream-like. Nordine did readings on the TV series "Faces in the Window" and Fred Astaire danced to Ken's divinely mellow ditty "My Baby" on a TV special. Nordine also narrated the 1948 documentary short Against the Tide (1948) and was Linda Blair's vocal coach for the landmark horror classic The Exorcist (1973).
Not surprisingly, Ken also lent his supremely dulcet tones to numerous film trailers and TV commercials, with his narration for a bunch of funky and imaginative TV commercials for Levi's jeans made throughout the 1970s and 1980s rating highly as some of his most famous and beloved work in this particular field. In 2005 Ken released the DVD "The Eye is Never Filled." He continued to host his own weekly radio show and perform live in concert almost right to the end. Ken lived in both Chicago, Illinois and Spread Eagle, Wisconsin. Nordine died at 98 on February 16, 2019 in Chicago, Illinois.- Actor

The television heartthrob from the 1960s and 1970s was the proverbial tall, dark and classically handsome actor. Completing the solid package was a great, muscular build, smooth charm, and an almost perfect set of teeth. Born in 1935 in Kansas City, Kansas, and raised in St. Louis, Missouri, he certainly paid his dues before landing his breakthrough as the suave announcer on The Carol Burnett Show (1967) in the late 1960s. The one-time door-to-door encyclopedia peddler, prior to his prime TV job, appeared in poorly-made sci-fi and beach party flicks with such dubious titles as Women of the Prehistoric Planet (1966), Swamp Country (1966), Journey to the Center of Time (1967) and Catalina Caper (1967). In time, he was more than just a gorgeous hunk with a resonant voice, and they began to incorporate Waggoner into the show as a comedy sketch partner along with Vicki Lawrence and Harvey Korman. His better scenes typically had him essaying the superficial cad or gleamy-toothed, self-important star. After seven seasons on the knockabout variety show, however, Waggoner felt like a "third banana" and yearned to take a chance on solo stardom. During his off-times, he had prepared himself by appearing in summer stock and/or dinner theater in such breezy assignments as "Boeing, Boeing", "Send Me No Flowers", and "Once More, with Feeling". He also hosted the syndicated quiz show It's Your Bet (1969), and earned added "exposure" as Playgirl Magazine's first semi-nude centerfold in 1973.
Not long after his departure from the Burnett show, he landed the role of Major Steve Trevor on the popular comic strip-based series Wonder Woman (1975), playing the dashing, no-nonsense boss to Diana Prince. Again, the challenge was not there and he remained on the periphery for three seasons. In later years, Waggoner became more personality than performer and only sporadically appeared in glossy mini-movies and TV episodes, occasionally as himself. He appeared in a few feature films (including Love Me Deadly (1972), Surf II (1983) and Wizards of the Demon Sword (1991)). Perhaps surmising he was undone by being too perfect a specimen, he wisely looked into business ventures. In 1979, he successfully started up "Star Waggons", which served film/TV companies with rental trailers. His charming, vainglorious romancer act was for the cameras only. He married only once, to Sharon Kennedy, an actress, financial consultant and realtor. They were married for 59 years and had two sons.- Actress

Petite, attractive Mari Blanchard rarely managed to get the lucky breaks. The daughter of an oil tycoon and a psychotherapist, she suffered from severe poliomyelitis from the age of nine, which denied her a hoped-for dancing career. For several years, she worked hard to rehabilitate her limbs from paralysis, swimming and later even performing on the trapeze at Cole Brothers Circus. At the urging of her parents, she then attended the University of Southern California, where she studied international law before dropping out nine units short of a degree. Her university studies did not lead to a career either. Sometime in the late 1940s, she joined the Conover Agency as an advertising model and, at the same time, was promoted by famed cartoonist and writer Al Capp, becoming the inspiration for one of his Li'l Abner characters.
As the result of an advertisement on the back page of the Hollywood Reporter, Mari was signed to a contract with Paramount. However, her early experience in the movie business proved an unhappy one, most of her roles being walk-ons and bit parts. Ten Tall Men (1951), for example, limited her to a token stroll down a street, twirling a parasol and smiling seductively at members of the Foreign Legion. It wasn't until Mari joined Universal that her fortunes improved somewhat, with a co-starring role (opposite Victor Mature) in The Veils of Bagdad (1953). After that, it was all downhill again. Burt Lancaster, co-producer and star (with Gary Cooper of the excellent A-grade western Vera Cruz (1954), had requested Mari as his leading lady, but Universal refused her release to United Artists and forbade her to accept the lucrative role (Denise Darcel ended up getting the part). Mari then lost the lead in a much lesser picture,Saskatchewan (1954), to Shelley Winters. Instead, she was cast as Venusian Queen Allura in one of the least exciting outings by Universal's leading comic duo, Abbott and Costello Go to Mars (1953).
Mari did end up with a respectable starring role in the western Destry (1954) opposite Audie Murphy. A remake of the classic Destry Rides Again (1939), she was cast in the Marlene Dietrich part and took great pains to affect a totally different look, darkening her hair so as not to be compared to the great star. Even the name of her character was changed from 'Frenchy' to 'Brandy'. "Destry" was not all smooth sailing. There was tension between her and director George Marshall (who had also directed the original version) and Mari suffered a facial injury as the result of a fight scene. The film was critically well received, but unfortunately Universal failed to renew its contract with Miss Blanchard, and her career then went into free fall.
Freelancing for lesser studios, she played a TB victim injected with a serum turning her into a Mr. Hyde-like killer in the lurid She Devil (1957) (during filming she nearly died of acute appendicitis). Mari then appeared for Republic in the eminently forgettable No Place to Land (1958) before briefly starring in her own short-lived adventure series Klondike (1960). Her last role of note was as the cheerful and likeable town madam in the rollicking John Wayne western comedy McLintock! (1963). Sometime that year, Mari Blanchard developed the cancer which was to claim her life in 1970 at the age of just 47.
