- a compulsive appeal
- a good mix of pathos & humor
- dramatic accessibility
Fiction would be very little without the characters that inhabit it. It would just be abstract. But while some roles are strictly functional, the best characters can offer complex morality, plus inspiring personalities, either as stalwart heroes, or causing mayhem as antiheroes and villains.
