8 Reveals From Our Set Visit to "The Dark Crystal: Age of Resistance"4 of 9
Meeting Brea
Our visit included a surreal meeting with Brea, voiced by Anya Taylor-Joy and brought to life by veteran Muppets and Sesame Street puppeteer Alice Dinnean.
The puppet is lifeless until Dinnean begins operating the character, using one hand to handle the puppet and the other to operate its expressions using a modified games controller.
“She’s a princess and a little spoiled,” said Dinnean, one of 12 puppeteers in the principal cast. “But through her research and observations of the Skeksis, she begins to realise that something isn’t quite how it should be.”
“There is more drama and emotion in this than anything I’ve ever done,” she added. “You see death, betrayal, fear, violence. It’s not the kind of thing that those of us who usually work in pre-school shows tend to see.”
