Today, Italy is experiencing a profound economic crisis; what remains of that story? To understand it, Andrea Segre entered the heart of Marghera, the Venice's industrial area, one of the largest and most decadent in the country, a space of great aesthetic appeal suspended between land and lagoon, where progress has often 'offended' nature. Following the lives of workers, managers, truck drivers and the cook of the last trattoria in the area, the film tries to understand what is left of that great dream, today immersed in the global flow of economy and migration.

- DirectorDidi GnocchiCarolina RosiStarsFrancesco RosiCarolina RosiLirio AbbateThe documentary traces the history of our country through the cinema of Francesco Rosi, starting from the film that the director thought told the mother of all negotiations between the State and the mafias: "Lucky Luciano". By lining up his works most linked to the news, politics and Italian society: Salvatore Giuliano, La sfida, Le mani sulla città, Il caso Mattei, Cristo si è fermato a Eboli, Cadaveri eccellenti, Tre Fratelli, Uomini contro, Dimenticare Palermo, we obtain one of the most lucid analyses of Italian history. It is a journey in the civil cinema of Rosi, of the Citizen Rosi, as he liked to call himself. A journey that applies his method of work, the one that has allowed his films to resist the elements of novelty brought over time by investigations and historical analysis. As Rosi did, we worked on documents, desecrated materials from Italian and foreign archives, sentences, qualified testimonies of scholars, magistrates, men of cinema. The documentary is also a sentimental journey because the story of Francesco Rosi's life and cinema is told by his daughter Carolina, who has witnessed her father's work since she was a child and who assisted him with love until his death.

The film combines invaluable stock footage from the Istituto Luce Archives with marvelous folk songs and four diaries kept by: a soldier for the Kingdom of Italy in the 1800s, a fighter in Ethiopia in 1935, a female resistance fighter during World War II, and a sergeant in the Italian Navy in the Kosovo. The result is private stories and the collective memory of a people who, with two millennia of war under their belt, should have a few tips about world peace.
