His brazen satirical film "The Producers" won the 1968 Oscar for best screenplay and such cult classics as "Blazing Saddles", "Young Frankenstein", and "High Anxiety" followed. - DirectorTomaso WalliserStarsBil HerdNolan BushnellManny GerardBefore Google, Yahoo and even Apple, before the Silicon Valley cliché of informal dress code, skateboards running the corridors and wild creativity became commonplace, one company embodied the digital economy lifestyle and business style: the one firm coming out of the Age of Aquarius was Atari. The story of Atari is two-thirds the story of Nolan Bushnell, founder and visionary, and one-third the first and probably biggest boom and bust of the new economy some 20 years before the new economy even existed. Atari was showing that technology is cool, way before the personal computer revolution took place and they were reaching out to an ever-growing audience with something that is still cool today: video games. Atari literally introduced the digital world to the mass consciousness. Nolan Bushnell and Atari have a huge collection of firsts: the first successful video game company, the first coin-op video game ever, the first general purpose console to win the market, the first marriage between video games and movie industry in the history of entertainment, the fastest growing company in history, the biggest industry crash ever, the weirdest anecdotes in Silicon Valley, the coolest brand on the planet... Atari is a story to be told for two main reasons: it is pure fun and it is impressively educational. Going through the ups and downs of Atari's ride, one can learn when and how our relationship with the digital world was born (ahead of Apple, Commodore, Microsoft and even the Homebrew Computer Club), how the 100 billion dollars a year video game industry was born, what to do to make your idea successful, what to do to screw it all up, whether to sell your baby to a giant major or not, what not to do to preserve your market from crashing and many others interesting topics.

A trip through 12,000 years of development, the documentary shows how seemingly small flashes of innovation - innovations that touch all of us in ways unimaginable to our ancestors - have changed the course of civilization. As our global population soars, the program considers the challenges humanity will face in order to survive.
- DirectorAndrew SmithStarsSimon SchafferThis extraordinary documentary poses questions that still resonate today - will the machines we build to save humanity end up replacing us or even destroying us? - DirectorJason SchmittStarsJohn AdlerRick AndersonHelena R. Asamoah-HassanPaywall: The Business of Scholarship dives into the need for open access to research and science, questions the rationale behind the $25.2 billion a year that flows into for-profit academic publishers, examines the 35-40% profit margin associated with the top academic publisher Elsevier and looks at how that profit margin is often greater than some of the most profitable tech companies like Apple, Facebook and Google. I was drawn to this documentary topic when I learned that public funds that come out of tax payers' pockets fund important scientific research that is locked behind paywalls and inaccessible to the general public. As we filmed this documentaryI was struck by the global energy and enthusiasm toward open access and the strong resistance to the movement by many of the world's top publishers. Further, I found that the funds paid to academic publishers are heavily burdening the higher education market, contributing to the rising tuition fees at all universities, the closure of many institutions and, ultimately, limiting science and progress.

Without a realistic solution in sight, the film explores personal accountability each one of us shares to solve this global crisis.
