October picks: The movies and TV you can't miss18 of 18
"The Gilded Age" | Season 2 premieres on Max Sunday, Oct. 29
Genre: Drama
Julian Fellowes' "The Gilded Age" has more complex storylines than his previous series, "Downtown Abbey," and though it has a fraction of the audience, viewership grew exponentially over the first season before it wrapped early last year. TBH, we need a refresher before S2 keeps us inside for 9 weeks, but we know Bertha (Carrie Coon) will continue to work her way up the societal ladder. Meanwhile, Peggy (Denee Benton) further aligns with real-life figure and publisher T. Thomas Fortune, and Marian (Louisa Jacobson) looks to redefine herself after being rejected by her intended husband. We're hoping some of the secondary characters slowly work their way to the front, similar to how "Downton" shifted its focus as it aged.
