A grifter named Ripley living in New York during the 1960s is hired by a wealthy man to bring his vagabond son home from Italy.
Director Zaillian stretches the story sometimes a little too much in minor details, and I must say I like all versions. Alain Delon in the Rene Clement classic, Matt Damon in the lavish Minghella version, but Andrew Scott (though 20 years older than both of them) is unsurpassable in Highsmith's original story of remarkable quality. Do not tell the new final plot twist without a spoiler alert.
