- DirectorOscar ApfelStarsCarlyle BlackwellEvelyn GreeleyDorothy FaneA captain saves a kidnapped magnate from a nursing home run by foreign agents.Silent
- DirectorEdward H. GriffithStarsRod La RocqueSue CarolRichard TuckerHugh Drummond goes broke living too high and turns to crime in order to pay his bills.Silent and totally unlike the talkie BDs. After WWI, Hugh is a playboy who spends over his means, meets a flapper who is also poor (for now), tries to be a top hatted highwayman and then performs as a Russian cabaret dancer.
He had no mystery to solve and, thankfully, no annoying sidekick Algy.
The copy I saw was incredibly blurry but worth finding and watching.
May have to seek out some films with Rod LaRoque and see what he looked and sounded like. - DirectorSidney MorganStarsJack BuchananBetty FaireJuliette ComptonMerchants hire a foreign criminal to kidnap a scientist for the secret of manufacturing diamonds.Silent
- DirectorF. Richard JonesStarsRonald ColmanClaud AllisterLawrence GrantA bored WWI veteran helps out a young woman whose uncle is being held hostage by embezzlers.Ronald Colman seems to be having fun with the role and plays it rather tongue-in-cheek which is good.
Algy is incredibly annoying and, thankfully, is re-written and re-cast in further "episodes".
WHY the girl is being held hostage is not made clear BUT that seems to be a flaw in later films well.
A good introduction to the series. - DirectorDonald GallaherStarsKenneth MacKennaMarceline DayHenry B. WalthallBulldog Drummond goes up against a group of jewel thieves led by Blackton and a Masked Strangler they double-crossed who wants revenge.have not located this one ...yet !
- DirectorWalter SummersStarsRalph RichardsonAnn ToddJoyce KennedyDrummond leads a black-shirted platoon of men from his former unit against foreign interlopers trying to pull England into dangerous overseas entanglements.Seems to be available only on $$ sites.
- DirectorRoy Del RuthStarsRonald ColmanLoretta YoungWarner OlandAlgy, Bulldog Drummond's right-hand-man, is getting married. Bulldog attends; on the way home, in the fog, he enters the (apparently deserted) mansion of Prince Achmed in search of a phone. He finds none, but he does find a body - which disappears when he summons a bobby. Bodies keep disappearing as Drummond keeps summoning the authorities, particularly his long-suffering upstairs neighbor, Captain Nielsen; the ever faithful Algy also finds his wedding night disrupted by, among other things, some emergency code-breaking. And of course, there's a beautiful woman (there's always a beautiful woman in the case), Lola, who turns out to be the daughter of the dead man who started all this.Ronald Colman returns to the role with a luminous Loretta Young as the damsel in distress and Warner Oland as the villain.
The Algy wedding / wedding night subplot is annoying but the new Algy is a slight improvement over the original.
Lots of fights and mysterious dark locations. - DirectorWalter FordeStarsJack HulbertFay WrayRalph RichardsonBulldog Drummond is injured when his sabotaged car crashes and Jack Pennington agrees to masquerade as the sleuth. He is enlisted to help Ann Manders find her jeweler grandfather who has been kidnapped by a gang of crooks who want him to copy a valuable necklace they want to steal. Their plan backfires in the British Museum and the film climaxes in an exciting chase on a runaway train in the London Underground.AKA: Bulldog Jack
Jack impersonates Bulldog and tries his best to solve the problems and rescue the fair maiden in a convoluted story of stolen and fake jewels.
Faye Wray is gorgeous !
Looking forward the the return of the real Bulldog. - DirectorJames P. HoganStarsRay MillandGuy StandingHeather AngelCaptain Drummond becomes a prisoner when he intends to protect a beautiful heiress of an espionage organization.Ray Milland presents an enjoyable Bulldog Drummond with another tongue-in-cheek enjoying the role presentation.
More dark corridors and not too clear reason for the holding hostage etc.
Damsel (Heather Angel) is a tad more spunky and resourceful than usual.
The annoying Algy story this time concerns the imminent arrival of his child. - DirectorNorman LeeStarsJohn LodgeDorothy MackaillVictor JoryBulldog Drummond goes up against foreign agents trying to steal plans for a top-secret aircraft.Watched this one out of sequence,
John Lodge as Hugh has nice dimples but lacks the spunk or interest of Colman and Milland and even of somewhat blah John Howard. When spotting Wilfred Hyde-White in an uncredited role is a high point of the film, there is a problem. Too dark a take on the story and too much torture and avoiding of imminent certain death. The most annoying Algy is still around but has little to do. No Neilson OR Tenny. =( - DirectorLouis KingStarsJohn BarrymoreJohn HowardLouise CampbellThe girlfriend of Captain Drummond has been kidnapped by an enemy of Drummond who seeks revenge. But Drummond and his friend Colonel Nielsen at once follow his trail...John Howard plays Bulldog Drummond but is
listed second on the IMDb page and third on the posters after John Barrymore and Louise Campbell. He is less dynamic than Colman or Milland as BD and she is adequate but nothing special.
The story is more of the running around in dark places and people fighting and being clunked but the kidnapping for revenge and plot advancement via riddle solving is more diverting and understandable than some.
Barrymore gets to disguise himself and make a comment about his profile. - DirectorLouis KingStarsJohn BarrymoreJohn HowardLouise CampbellCaptain Drummond travels to Switzerland in order to marry his girlfriend but the disappearance of a dangerous cargo of explosives makes him delay his plans. The story has nothing to do with revenge but is about newly developed explosives being stolen by the bad guys. The titles and plot often have no connection in this series of films.
John Barrymore, once again, has top billing despite his supporting role. EE Clive continues as the increasingly Jeeves-like butler and annoying Algy is still in attendance but has calmed down somewhat. - DirectorJames P. HoganStarsJohn BarrymoreJohn HowardLouise CampbellIn this episode captain Drummond tries to find the killer of various people. All assassinations were provoked by a diamond of great value, but Drummond will face the danger. The development of artificial diamonds is the plot in this one .. plus the oft delayed nuptials of Hugh and Phyllis. Disguises and more locked rooms abound. Butler Tenny gets to show off his motorcycle riding prowess.
- DirectorLouis KingStarsJohn HowardHeather AngelH.B. WarnerDrummond, his girlfriend and his butler try to free an high post of Scotland Yard who has been kidnapped.Barrymore is no more and Howard again gets top billing and Heather Angel returns as perennial almost-a-bride Phyllis.
Plotwise, it's just more of the same BUT there is a very young Anthony Quinn playing an overly Bryl-cremed evil henchman. The series is seriously gong downhill but, thankfully, the films are under an hour each. - DirectorJames P. HoganStarsJohn HowardHeather AngelH.B. WarnerThe invention of an atomic weapon - a long-range ray that can detonate explosions - sends Scotland Yard and Captain Drummond into action.BEST BD so far ! The plot makes sense, Tenny is in his element and Algy is less annoying than usual !
Possibly another uncredited appearance by Jimmy the Raven ! - DirectorJames P. HoganStarsJohn HowardHeather AngelH.B. WarnerCaptain Drummond and his girlfriend want to marry but a hidden treasure in the house in which they want to celebrate their marriage is complicating the situation.Watched this one earlier in the binge and it makes a little more sense now. More running around in dark hallways and personal complications. Jokes getting repetitious.
- DirectorJames P. HoganStarsJohn HowardHeather AngelH.B. WarnerA bank robbery in London prevents - again - the marriage of Bulldog Drummond and his girlfriend. But this time, after the robbers are caught, it will be celebrated at last. This entry in the series was another more light hearted and fun film. More leaping and rolling around type fights and a plot (such as it was) that was evident without the aid of synopsis or reader reviews.
The last John Howard as BD which is a shame because he seemed to finally be hitting his stride and finding the fun in the role.
Elizabeth Patterson returns as Phyllis' Aunt and the usual gang of supporting players are in attendance. Eduardo Ciannelli plays the villain du jour. - DirectorSidney SalkowStarsRon RandellAnita LouisePatrick O'Moore"Bulldog" Drummond is vacationing in his country home in England, and his house if rifled by two thieves. After they leave he finds a card marked with some mysterious letters. Doris Meredith comes by the next day, pretending her car has broken down. Drummond knows better but plays along with her. Drummond calls Scotland Yard Inspector Holmes, and is informed that some of the letters comprise the code-name for a Yard-man who disappeared while carrying some diamonds from France to England. Doris tells Drummond the man is her brother. Drummond uses a decoy to lure the thieves out of hiding, but they adduct Doris.Seems to be available only as a brief clip. Will keep looking to complete the set.
- DirectorFrank McDonaldStarsRon RandellGloria HenryPatrick O'MooreA Scotland Yard Inspector, seeking a missing heiress, is murdered in his own home. "Bulldog" Drummond finds one of the two women claiming to be the real heiress hiding in a closet in the house. She tells Drummond she is innocent of the murder and is the real heiress. Is she or isn't she? There is nothing particularly Bulldoggish about this film. It could have been any amateur detective dealing with the plot elements.
Ron Randall is acceptable but nothing special one way or another,
The time has shifted to Post WWII and wife Phyllis seems to have been lost from collective memory. - DirectorJean YarbroughStarsTom ConwayJune VincentRichard StapleyA sea captain is murdered before he can reveal the location of hidden gold. Bulldog Drummond is on the case.Another Bulldog Drummond entry that could have been any generic amateur detective and sidekicks.
Tom Conway wasn't bad, just nothing special.
The story was less convoluted than usual and had some clever bits. The film was largely shot in near darkness which resulted in the tussles and bonks on the head being seen as shadows and outlines only (this may have been the result of watching a poor copy)
Interesting side note : Seymour, boy reporter, sidekick was Terry Kilburn aka Tiny Tim in the Reginald Own Christmas Carol and the lad who uttered the immortal "Goodbye, Mr. Chips". - DirectorFrank McDonaldStarsTom ConwayMaria PalmerHelen WestcottCaptain Hugh "Bulldog" Drummond is called in to solve the murder of a man from whom two lead soldiers were stolen. Drummond learns that the two soldiers were part of a set of thirteen which formed the key to a hidden vault of treasure. Following some clever sleuthing and set-up on Drummond's part, the guilty man is trapped in the vault, which is hidden behind the fireplace. This one has a bit of humor concerning Algy claiming to be Bulldog and hoping thus to have a better chance of getting the girl. Lousy copy so much of the film is in the dark and it is hard to see what is happening.
Nearing the end of the binge which seemed like a good idea at the time. - DirectorVictor SavilleStarsWalter PidgeonMargaret LeightonRobert BeattyWith a ruthless gang terrorizing London, Scotland Yard calls Hugh "Bulldog" Drummond out of retirement. With the help of detective Helen Smith, Drummond infiltrates the gang under an assumed name. He and Smith become trusted gang-members until the gang's overlord discovers their true identities, and they are taken as prisoners.Walter Pidgeon makes for an older but still servicable Drummond with David Tomlinson as still dim as a broken lightbulb Algy. Story better than some.
- 1953–195730m6.0 (26)TV EpisodeDirectorDavid MacDonaldStarsRobert BeattyGreta GyntMichael RipperBulldog Drummond is contacted by a Mrs Harriet Ludlow, wife of an old friend; her husband has invented a new antibiotic formula potentially worth a fortune, but he has been kidnapped and held for ransom. Drummond sets out to prevent the formula from reaching the hands of the villains -- with or without his client's co-operation!Totally forgettable.
- DirectorRalph ThomasStarsRichard JohnsonElke SommerSylva KoscinaBritish agent Bulldog Drummond is assigned to stop a master criminal who uses beautiful women to do his killings.Did a rare thing and gave up on this Bond clone within 10 minutes. Starts with a grisly murder and went downhill from there,
- DirectorRalph ThomasStarsRichard JohnsonDaliah LaviBeba LoncarA series of unexplainable accidents befall the people and companies responsible for developing the world's first supersonic airliner (SST1). A British agent is sent to investigate and with the help of another agent uncovers a plot masterminded by Carl Petersen who stands to gain eight million pounds if the aircraft is not ready by a certain date. The evil Petersen has developed a number of "robots" (actually rather beautiful girls with "electronic brains") to help him sabotage the SST1 project by means of "infrasound" (extreme low frequency sound waves) which can be directed at people or objects with devastating results.Skipped this one completely.
