My most disliked (or even hated) series/movies/games.
I guess people would see a lot of my opinions as "hot takes" here, but that's not really what I'm trying to do here... I'm not arguing that any of these are badly made or not, just whither I personally like them or not. It's pretty obvious from this what kind of things I'm not into... lol (i.e. gore and shock for the sake of it). Ratings reflect how much I like or dislike something, not how well I think it's made. If it's not here, I either forgot about it, like it well enough at least, haven't seen it at all, or don't feel I've seen enough to form an opinion. And yes, there's plenty of popular things I do like. Not everything on this list is popular, either, but they do tend to be popular things as those stand out more (and it does compound my disdain for them if they are popular). There's no real order to this... I'll try, but it's really just added by train of thought. I have a lot of hot takes and will probably make a lot of enemies... Read my profile to understand why my tastes are the way they are, but to explain most of this, I don't like cheap entertainment and especially graphic violence/killing for the sake of entertainment. I also don't like the perpetuation of sexuality being categorized together with the worst things we can show on film, like brutal killings and projectile vomit.

- CreatorDavid BenioffD.B. WeissStarsEmilia ClarkePeter DinklageKit HaringtonNine noble families fight for control over the lands of Westeros, while an ancient enemy returns after being dormant for millennia. It's gonna be hard to be friends with you if you like this show... that's how far it goes. It's like the shining crown on the head of societal hypocrisy. That said, I have been friends with people who loved the show... they just better never bring it up with me around. To me, it doesn't matter if something has a great budget, looks amazing, and is even directed really well to top it all off... if I don't like the story and/or characters, I don't like it. I just tried to get through the first few episodes but couldn't.
Give me LotR over this any day. I reject the argument that dark fantasy is inherently more "realistic" by its nature and that "good vs evil" stories are always 100% black and white and have no depth. I think it's totally possible to take the dark elements in a story into ridiculous, overly cynical territory. I actually love dark elements in a story (I'll gladly take a "grey" story over a "pitch black" or "black and white" one), but not when it gets to the level of being sadistic. The irony is, it's my own cynicism with humanity that makes me dislike this genre. I remember that the Roman coliseum was once a much loved form of entertainment, and I believe that sadistic side to even many regular people still exists today, most of them just won't admit to it or reflect on it. I can only really excuse people with underlying mental issues and past trauma who use stories like this to help them cope.
I'd much rather spend my time on Dark Non-Fiction stories rather than Dark Fantasy. Hell, you can just turn on the news or watch a war documentary if you want to remind yourself how horrible humanity can be with total accuracy (though you'll have to get passed the few good things, good people, and even unambiguous heroes out there because - surprise - they actually exist in real life).
And that's without even getting into its sex-negativity. It's not only the violence and depraved actions of the characters that's used to shock, the sexuality and nudity is also clearly meant to be used that way. Ohh, so much "sexy-time" in a popular TV series... so "dirty", so "naughty"! I don't like the idea of people I've known for most of my life telling me that they watch hardcore p*rn, but telling me they watch GoT feels like the same kind of thing.
And to top it all off, the very basic sentence that has existed since as far back as human beings began to communicate with words - "winter is coming", a sentence I have always loved all my life, is now somehow automatically a reference to this show, whither anyone means for it to be or not. - CreatorRyan J. CondalGeorge R.R. MartinStarsMatt SmithEmma D'ArcyOlivia CookeAn internal succession war within House Targaryen at the height of its power, 172 years before the birth of Daenerys Targaryen.I've read about the kind of things that happen in this show and it's enough to piss me off. Some things seem even worse than what I've read about happening in GoT. In this year of 2023, the kind of atrocities happening in this show are happening in real life these days, and here we have this show where things like that are recreated and used to drive a fantasy entertainment story forward! If the things that happen in real life aren't bad enough to make you lose faith in humanity, the creation, existence, and love for shows like this make it even more reasonable to feel like that. I will never, ever understand how people can enjoy and be OK with a show like this. The fans of these series are aliens to me. At least with slasher and torture p*rn movies, those tend to be poorly reviewed and only popular among a certain crowd, but these shows have finally brought brutal ultraviolence into the mainstream way more than movies like Saw ever could.

I just feel like the writers of comedy like this just use the shield of comedy to get away with saying whatever shocking thing they want, not to make people laugh or do any other positive thing. Ever since The Simpsons hit it big, I feel like every "adult cartoon" since has just tried to "out-adult" The Simpsons as much as possible. At least the other shows out there have other merits (like South Park, which I neither love nor hate). There's nothing redeemable about this show.

These developers don't have any love or respect for the original Lara Croft and anything they said to suggest otherwise is just BS to help fans accept the total hijacking of a classic series to turn it into another AAA hyper-realistic but ridiculous ultraviolent interactive movie under the guise of an action game that buries its spelunking and puzzle platformer roots (yeah the old games had shooting too, but that was my least favourite part of the games). The idea that this Lara Croft would ever "grow up" to be come the classic Lara and loop back to connect the timeline was always BS... seriously, could anyone ever be able to reasonably accept that the Lara from this game and the rest of the "survivor trilogy" could ever become the charismatic, Bond-like, tough and sexy badass with attitude from the classic series? She'd just suddenly trade in her bow for the dual pistols? They're literally completely different characters and always will be.

The only thing this show got right for me is the visuals and character names. The humor (why?), writing, and the violence are all horrible. The games were NEVER M-rated or 18+ violent entertainment like this show is. It was tamer than Hammer Horror movies. The only thing you see get killed and die in the games are skeletons and monsters who disappear after a few hits. This is the name of Castlevania being hijacked to create an animated show for the Game of Thrones audience. GoT's influence on media in general has cemented it's place as #1 on my list here for sure (it's even affected games).

This is the dumbification of established IPs so that corporations can make a quick buck. If kids watched and enjoyed X-Men the Animated Series so much in the 90s, it doesn't make sense that DC has to make these shows that treat children like idiots. Pretty much the only positives I got from this series is the character designs and the fact that it has a sex scene. Probably the first non-H anime I ever saw that allowed its characters do to this normal, positive, human act rather than totally avoid any sexuality or have characters just be horny from fanservice all the time. It was totally casual, unromantic sex, but whatever, it made sense in the plot and the reason for why it happened was sound. The only reason it blew up as much as it did was because of the novelty of 3D glasses (which was used like a gimmick in this movie, it wasn't used to enhance a movie's storytelling until Hugo), otherwise the story was nothing new or special and the dialogue was useless (at this point, saying "I don't think we're in Kansas anymore" is just plain uncreative). Just because it and its family may have changed the world and influenced it (for the worse) doesn't mean its of any merit or value any more than a train crash is. It should probably be studied as to how it came to be and how it affected the world, but that doesn't grant it anything higher than a 1 star.
I did consider giving it 2 because of how it had one positive of promoting women with curvaceous figures. That's what the people who made the show and people who discuss it say, that Kim put "booty" and curves on the map, blah, blah... but I thought there have been famous women supposedly doing that for at least the past century? Mae West didn't do it? Jean Harlow didn't do it? Rita Hayworth? Monroe? Sophia Loren? Pam Grier? Pamela Anderson? Anna Nicole Smith? All famous, all known for hourglass figures, all considered the ultimate sex symbols at various times, yet until the vapid Kim Kardashian, people only thought size zero thin models were attractive? Are we finally in a world where the "size zero" and "beauty standard" myth perpetuated by social loudmouths has been debunked? Has she done what smarter, more amazing, more natural, and more worthwhile women couldn't do?
Anyways, maybe the more important question is, are the Kardashians and their show a symptom or a cause of the worst aspects of capitalism? Maybe it's both.
With one of the lowest ratings on IMDB based on a good number of reviews, why the hell was this show so successful? My guess is that it tapped into the same thing tabloids do. It shamelessly perpetuated a "scandalous" family who do "scandalous" things, and the kind of people who are interested in celebrity scandals tuned in by the bucketloads, plus the hate-watchers.
Maybe there's a side of irony to it as well, that we who are all more poor than these people, watch to see how horrible these rich people are, all while enriching them further by doing so, wasting precious time that we could be using to enrich ourselves (in so many other ways). The worst side effect of this is that because of these people making the show a success, more impressionable minds think that its success means that it must be good and may see it as a template for life.
Pamela Anderson could have gone this route yet she didn't. Gotta love Pam. - StarsAnna Nicole SmithDaniel SmithHoward K. SternReality show starring everyone's favorite plus sized model Anna Nicole Smith! This was probably the first "reality shows" I'd ever watched (and one of the very few I have ever watched more than one episode of), although the first ones I ever knew of were Big Brother and Survivor of course (just launched 2 years early in 2000). This is the first I can remember being focused on a single person or family for the entire series, though. The only reason I watched it was because I was already a big fan of Anna Nicole as teen boy, for obvious reasons. This show was like "meeting your heroes", a thing I'm told one should "never" do, but without ever actually meeting them. It bothered me so much how this show made me dislike a woman I once really loved, and it bothered me even more after her untimely death. This show should never have been made, it took away more dignity from her in her final years than any amount of nude photoshoots or videos would do.
But I'm convinced that much like every other reality show, this show didn't paint her in the best light most of the time on purpose. I don't know if she was really in real life the stereotypical "dumb blonde" or "bimbo" personified as shown in the series, but either way this show shouldn't have been made as it just further fuelled the tragedy of her life and displayed it for the whole world and for people to watch her life like a sideshow. I don't know/remember if this show was successful for her, but
She was, to me, physically at least, the 2nd coming of Monroe. Truly one of history's most naturally breath-taking beauties, yet despite that she still got surgery... which goes to show just how insecure and inferior she must have felt growing up. As someone who adores big breasts, I truly mean it when I say she didn't need them. Not to look good, at least, but would she have become as famous without them? We live in a cold, ridiculous, dehumanizing capitalistic machine and I don't blame anyone for not being able to try to resist being crushed by it.

- DirectorRajkumar KohliStarsSunny DeolArman KohliManisha KoiralaA shape-shifting snake exacts vengeance on a group of friends for a crime they did not even commit.Every time someone brings up RGV's Aag as the worst Indian film of all time, I bring up this one instead. It's painfully horrible to watch. It's amazing to consider that Akshaye Kumar was considered Indian's top action star around this time, his martial arts (I remember some kind of rope-fu scene) is more unintentionally funny than anything else. It's amazing the careers of anyone involved in this film survived. And I say that being a big fan of Manisha Koirala (who was barely in the movie anyways) and I even actually liked Sonu Nigam's first lead acting role in Kash Aap Hamare Hote Hain a few years later. If Aag is a 2 or 1 on IMDB, this should be more like a 0.0001/10.
- DirectorKunal KohliStarsHrithik RoshanKareena KapoorRani MukerjiMeet Raj, Pooja and Tina - 3 best friends thrown into a situation that time, letters, love and separation have created for them.I can't even explain how painfully bad this is. It literally made me feel like I lost brain cells. I have to believe that Hrithik Roshan and Kareena Kapoor were told to act as intentionally badly as possible, even worse than they usually are. Unintentionally funny at some parts with how ridiculous some of the acting, dialogue, and screenplay is.

I used to be a diehard Hindi films fan, or even "Bollywood" as the world knows it as. I used to keep up with news from the Indian film industry before this. I'm sure there were great Indian movies made after this, but I just couldn't risk exposing myself to more mindless action schlock like Race and Dhoom anymore.
- DirectorSanjay GadhviStarsAbhishek BachchanJohn AbrahamUday ChopraDhoom reinvents the classic cops and robbers tale for the 21st century. Fast bikes, big action, and non-stop fun make for a thrilling story.India's love for this movie and music screams of hypocrisy and bad taste... this is where the downward trend started. The 2000s were a tough time for me as a film lover, but especially as a Hindi film lover. I still feel pain from the times I heard truck horns on Indian highways blaring this movie's music.
Pretty much the only thing I liked about this movie is how incredible Rimi Sen looked.
It's funny that this has a 6.6 on IMDB right now with only 20K+ reviews, this movie was as big and celebrated at its time as much as any of the blockbuster Indian hits of the past decade that have been sweeping IMDB charts with tons of reviews and high ratings. Trucks on Indian highways had horns playing a jingle of notes from the main song. You'd think it'd be considered the Sholay of the 2000s. - DirectorSanjay GadhviStarsHrithik RoshanAbhishek BachchanAishwarya Rai BachchanBack in action DHOOM:2 reinvents the action comedy genre and propels it into the 21st century. - DirectorPrashant ChadhaNitish SharmaStarsHimesh ReshammiyaHansika MotwaniMallika SherawatA wealthy woman falls in love with a rock-star who will soon get arrested for Murder.I already couldn't stand his song writing or singing before (except when he embraced how bad he was at it by making ridiculous songs about ripping your own shirt out of madness), let alone his voice, so when he decided to be a lead male in a romantic film... just, why? What a massive ego.
- DirectorAnees BazmeeStarsAkshay KumarKatrina KaifOm PuriA comic caper about Happy Singh, a Punjabi villager who goes through a series of misadventures and eventually becomes the King of the Australian underworld.I already lost any respect I had for Akshaye Kumar when he was in Jaani Dushman, but this was when I finally closed the door and locked it. Makes it hard to go back and even watch Hera Pheri (probably his last good movie) or his sillier 90s stuff like Aflatoon and Sabse Bhada Khiladi.

Still, money brings the joy of riches and with it the greed to make more money. And so, with a don as an unknowing investor, Raju initiates a new game. It's too bad this was so painfully unfunny, the original Hera Pheri was hilarious and far less flashy AND had a way better story. The Himesh music makes it even worse. This movie's title doesn't even deserve to share one letter from Hera Pheri's title.

- DirectorDavid DhawanStarsRishi KapoorSalman KhanAmeesha PatelRaj Saxena (Salman Khan) goes to London, expecting his long-lost dad (Rishi Kapoor) to warmly greet him, but things do not go as planned. How the hell did anyone ever think Salman Khan was a good actor? At least he was funnier when he was scrawny, when he did films like Andaaz Apna Apna. Now in every scene he walks around like he thinks he's god's gift to women. And at least Himesh doesn't sing in his music for this, it's not that bad as long as it's in a comedy and he doesn't sing. Ameesha doesn't exist in this for any reason other than the dance numbers, they didn't even get her involved in the comedy much, which is a huge shame because she's great at comedy. Literally all 4 stars are for her just looking incredible, but she's not enough to save the movie. Unfortunately the music also sounded terrible as it was by Himesh... but at least he hadn't started singing in songs himself yet, so they're at least catch and fun to watch actors dance to, if nothing worth remembering.

At least this movie finally marked the end of Himesh's acting career, I think. I didn't really pay much attention to Indian cinema as much after the end of this decade. I think after this he just got his ego boost from being India's version of Simon Cowell on TV for the rest of our lives.

I guess even most of the people who paid to see it and helped make it a hit actually thought it was at least mediocre.

I could put this in the same category as Birth of a Nation (1914), except this released in 2022. It scares me that this is called a masterpiece by Indian social media, political leaders, and many in the film industry. Using a retelling of real life history as partisan political propaganda for the present should worry people. Speaking of history, where's the evidence that someone was cut in half like that during that time? Otherwise it's only in the film to shock and anger people. Angry people vote for whoever tells them they are their saviour. Even if it did happen, they're using a person's brutal murder for a commercial film.
- DirectorAnil SharmaStarsSunny DeolAmeesha PatelAmrish PuriDuring the Partition of India in 1947, a Sikh truck driver falls in love with a Muslim girl belonging to an aristocratic family.Me and my whole family liked this movie when it released. I was still a kid. It is a well-made and enjoyable movie for its entertainment and humor (which is weird because it begins with horrific scenes based on real events), but I can't forgive how it paints the Pakistanis as cartoonish evil villains. There were horrible people under every major religion during partition, it's not right to only show the horrible things that one side did and almost make the terrible things the other side did look justifiable. And in hindsight, it's kinda weird to make an action-comedy connected to stories of real life atrocities and horrific killings. This movie is like a reverse "Life is Beautiful", because that movie starts off with the fun and comedy and ends up with the tragedy at the end.
I've seen people argue that it's fine to do things like this (jingoism) in modern Indian films because old Hollywood is full of it (even the great Anurag Kashyap made such an argument). Just because someone else did it before doesn't justify doing it again, especially when we should know better today in hindsight... we should learn to be better than what we compare ourselves to, not have to justify the things we do using them. - DirectorRahul RawailStarsSunny DeolKamaal KhanShilpi SharmaAn international terrorist is hired to assassinate the U.S. President.Just comes off hypocritical and unfunny.
