- DirectorLesley SelanderStarsRoy AcuffRoy Acuff's Smoky Mountain BoysAllan LaneOn a train heading into the small mountain town of Tranquility, Danny Acuff kisses a beautiful woman before hopping off a still-moving car. At the Tranquility station, the woman, whose name is Constance Stevenson, her father and their lawyer, Wilson, detrain and introduce themselves as the Smiths, claiming that they are in town to fish in the lake. Station master Roy Acuff, who does not see his brother Danny sneak into town, is also enthralled by Constance. Immediately afterward, Stevenson reminds Wilson not to reveal that he is really the president of the railroad, and is actually in town to buy up the land around the lake in order to lay tracks through it, a plan which will desiccate area farms. At home, Roy brings Mom Acuff a birthday cake and she wishes that Danny were there, after his three years in jail for robbery. Just then, Danny slips into his seat and a warm family reunion ensues until Danny realizes that Roy works for the very railroad that Danny blames for framing him. Danny storms out and stays with moon-shining brothers Chad and Asa Morgan, unaware that they actually performed the robbery for which he was framed. The next day, Roy visits Danny, who saves him during a fight with Chad, but is still cold toward his brother until Roy announces that he has quit the railroad and wants to start a farm with Danny. Later on the farm, Roy is stunned by the sight of Constance fishing on a rock in the lake. When she falls into the water and hits her head, he rescues her just as Danny comes by, so he hands her to Danny and runs for the doctor. By the time he returns, everyone assumes Danny is the hero, and though Roy is upset at first he allows the misunderstanding to continue when Danny tells him that he and Constance are in love. The next night at a square dance, Stevenson offers to buy everyone's share of the lake land, supposedly for "the timber." After the party, Stevenson catches Constance with Danny and reprimands her for dating beneath her class, and within hours the Stevensons are gone. A few days later, a heartbroken Danny receives a letter from Constance in which she states that she is returning to tell him something, just as Rainbow, their family friend and local train inspector, announces that the Stevensons are really railroaders after the farmers' land. Against Roy's advice, an angry Danny agrees to see Constance, but when he does, he pretends to defend her against Chad, causing her to shoot at Chad, who then fakes his death. Danny then blackmails Stevenson for the property rights in exchange for his silence about "the murder," not realizing that Constance has mentally collapsed from guilt. Stevenson gives back the land rights but Roy forces Danny to tell the truth, at which point they realize how sick Constance is. They run to get Chad to show him to Constance, and when they arrive at his place, he is fighting with Asa. When Asa pulls out his gun, Danny recognizes it as the weapon from the robbery for which he was jailed, and realizes who his true enemy is. After a chase into the hills, Asa shoots and kills Chad, and everyone agrees to tell Constance he has been hit by a train. This shocks her out of her depression, and though Roy returns the land grants to Stevenson, the thankful father tears them up.

Gibson is impoverished because he keeps buying his kleptomaniac Uncle Zeke (Lloyd Corrigan)out of trouble, supports his Ma (Dorothy Vaughan), and Grandpa ('George Cleveland'). He wants to marry Jean Wallace (Lyn Thomas) , and doesn't know that Acuff and his musicians are traveling incognito for the radio show "Who Am I Helping?" If he guesses their identity, he wins $100,000.
- DirectorHugh BennettStarsJean HeatherCharles QuigleyRobert BenchleyMade at the time when the National Barn Dance program, on radio station WLS (for World's Largest Store and owned by Sears & Roebuck) in Chicago, was as big on a national scale listening audience as "The Grand Ole Opry" out of Nashville. The film highlights the leading acts then performing on the program; comedian Pat Buttram (Pat Buttram), announcer Joe Kelly (Joe Kelly),(before his Quiz Kids stint), Lulubelle & Scotty (Scotty Wiseman and wife Myrtle Wiseman)), the Dinning Sisters trio, Arkie the Arkansas Wood Chooper (Luther W. Ossenbrink) and the Hoosier Hot Shots quartet, whose musical abilities and creativity were vastly underrated. The piffle of a story begins in the early days of radio (Calvin Coolidge was President) but otherwise seems to take place in 1944, which made things easier on the Art and Set directors. Agent John Berke (Charles Quigley) thinks advertising executive Mitcham (Robert Benchley) wants to put together a program of hillbilly performers---a term used until later years when Nashville went uptown and changed it to Country & Western---and hies himself down to a country town where Lulubelle (Myrtle Wiseman) & Scotty (Scott Wiseman) hold a barn dance in their barn every Saturday night featuring themselves and their farm hands, although it is not quite clear just what chores the Dinning Sisters perform. He signs all hands to a contract, brings them to Chicago and learns that Mitcham has no intentions of putting together such a program to be sponsored by the Garvey Soup Company owned by the Garveys (Charles Dingle and Mabel Paige). A bit of plot contrivance---a small bit--- changes all of that, and the National Barn Dance is born.
- DirectorFrank McDonaldStarsRichard CromwellDoris DayGeorge BarbierDan Martin, an unemployed college graduate, drifts into the town of Lyndale, only to learn that the town and everything in it are dominated by Minerva Withers, a tightfisted, old skinflint whose welcome does not extend to tramps. Dan, who is hungry, joins a group of college students at Uncle Si's ice cream parlor, where he meets Betty, Minerva's granddaughter. A friendship develops between the two, alarming James Rutherford, Betty's snobbish boyfriend. The young people of Lyndale operate a small radio station that broadcasts a program known as "The Village Barn Dance". Because of Dan's training as an electrical engineer, he is given a job as technician at the station. Meanwhile, Minerva, determined to make Lyndale a large manufacturing city, turns a receptive ear to James Rutherford, Sr., who tells her that he will bring his large milk factory to Lyndale provided that the water and power works can handle the additional load. By threatening to refuse the local merchants credit at her bank, Minerva browbeats them into floating a loan to build a new power plant. The new plant is built on funds the merchants have raised by mortgaging their businesses, but Rutherford reneges on his offer, stating that he will bring his factory to Lyndale only if James, Jr. lives there and manages the plant. James, Jr.'s decision depends on whether Betty will marry him, and so, to save the town, Betty refuses Dan's offer of marriage and promises to marry James, Jr. Uncle Si, learning of this, reveals that he is Minerva's estranged husband, and as Betty's grandfather, he feels entitled to save her from an unhappy marriage. He then takes The Village Barn Dance program to a nearby city that boasts a national network, commandeers the station and broadcasts the show nationally, announcing that it is being sponsored by the Rutherford Milk Company. Betty and James are about to be married when she hears the radio show and realizes that she is free to marry Dan. The program is so successful that the radio fans force Rutherford to retain the program and pay the participants a salary that will more than pay for the mortgages written to finance the power plant.

- DirectorCharles LamontStarsJean ParkerJohn ArcherJanet BeecherOn graduation day at the Hattie Greenfield Agricultural College, crabby Hattie, who donated the land and buildings for the college twenty-one years previously, is angered by the students' good-natured attempt to poke fun at her. Hattie refuses to donate more money to the school, despite the pleas of the college's president, Professor Edgar Boggs. Determined to raise enough money for needed buildings, Edgar and the school's veterinarian, Dr. Hall, organize the students and turn the school into a summer vacation lodge called the "Hi, Neighbor Lodge." A better-equipped lodge across the lake threatens to monopolize the tourists until the kids hit upon a scheme involving a pen-pal Lonely Hearts club. The students write to the club's members, inviting them to come to the lodge to meet other single people. Soon business is booming, and only one more month's bookings are needed to raise all of the required funds. A newspaper story about the lodge and the club raises the ire of Hattie, who deems the proceedings inappropriate. She descends upon the lodge with her niece Dorothy, sister Vera and lawyer, Don Wilson, who is engaged to Dorothy. Hattie insists on reclaiming the school property and orders everyone to leave. Determined to thwart Hattie, some of the boys decide to trick her into staying. They arrange for Don to come into contact with some poison ivy that night, and the next morning, Dr. Hall diagnoses his rash as measles. A quarantine is ordered for one month, and Don is bundled off to bed. While Vera pursues Roy, one of the students, Dr. Hall and Dorothy spend time together and fall in love. Even Hattie discovers a touch of romance at the lodge when Edgar, who was her childhood sweetheart, tries to recapture the days of their youth. Everyone's good humor is destroyed, however, when Don sneaks out to a local hospital and learns that he does not have measles. He exposes Dr. Hall's deception, and an angry Hattie declares that the school will be shut. Dorothy tells Hattie that she is staying to marry Dr. Hall, but when he learns of Hattie's plans, Dr. Hall makes a deal with her that he will give up Dorothy if she will keep the school open for Edgar's sake. Dr. Hall breaks off his relationship with Dorothy, who then returns with her relatives to the city. Brokenhearted over Dr. Hall, Dorothy resumes her engagement to Don, but on the day of the wedding, Vera returns to the school and informs everyone of Dr. Hall and Hattie's pact. Edgar and the kids rush to Hattie's mansion and establish a picket line to protest her unfairness. Don and Dorothy call off their wedding, and Hattie finally accepts Edgar's comforting. The Greenfields then travel to the school, where Dorothy and Dr. Hall are reunited.
- DirectorFrank McDonaldStarsEddie Foy Jr.June ClydeGuinn 'Big Boy' WilliamsFast-talking Johnny Campbell works hard as the campaign manager of gubernatorial hopeful Stogie McPhee and uses his verbal talents to persuade Pepper Wilson to marry him if McPhee wins. Pepper is uncertain of Johnny's true character, however, and begins campaigning for McPhee's rival, Gildersleeve, whom she hopes to get elected and thereby nullify her promise to Johnny. The campaign progresses at a furious pace, but the candidates soon realize that they must obtain the support of rural Potts County in order to win. The candidates and their managers travel to Pottsville, the county seat, and arrive in the midst of the county fair celebrations. The local citizens, who abhor politicians, are much more interested in the fair and in the town belle, Lulubelle Tinkle, who is the girl friend of mayor and blacksmith Gunther Potts, than they are in the candidates. Desperate to win both the election and Pepper, Johnny hits upon the scheme to convince Lulubelle and the townsfolk that Lulubelle is McPhee's long-lost daughter, who was kidnapped by gypsies as an infant. The stunt backfires, however, for McPhee has been pontificating about the benefits of his bachelor status. Certain that he is going to lose the election, McPhee makes a deal with Cash Nichols, a tough gangster, who promises to give him a cut of the money he intends to bet on Gildersleeve's victory. McPhee's running mate, Cornelius Simpson, has dropped out of the race, and when Gunther decides to replace him, despite the trick Johnny played on Lulubelle, it suddenly appears as if McPhee will win. McPhee is flabbergasted when he does indeed win the election, and in order to avoid Nichols' vengeful goons, he slips out of town. After Gunther takes over as governor, he is reunited with Lulubelle and uses his new powers to ensure Potts County a new fairgrounds. Meanwhile, Pepper is finally convinced of Johnny's sincerity and agrees to marry him.
- DirectorGeorge ArchainbaudStarsBob BurnsUna MerkelJerry ColonnaThrockmorton P. Gildersleeve relates to a W.P.A. employment advisor the story of how he lost the mayorship of the town of Monotony and became a forgotten man: Jed Blower returned to his sixteen member hillbilly family with his business partner Gusty Mann, who convinces the family that they should play their mountain music on the radio. The family moves down the hill to Monotony, where their radio show brings in tourists and improves business for everyone. The Blowers refuse a chance to play in Nashville however, when they return to the mountain to feud with the Beagle family. In the meantime, Gildersleeve has been campaigning for mayor and expects to win, although he treats the townspeople and the residents of the poorhouse ruthlessly. After Gildersleeve thwarts store owner Lester Smoot's attempt to enter the campaign, Jed decides to run for Mayor when he realizes that this would improve his chance of marrying Belinda Watters, who has been pining for a balloonist since he left town years ago. The balloonist returns but does not remember Brenda, and when Jed ousts him, Belinda falls in love with him. The Blowers and the Beagles then call a truce so they can vote for Jed, and he wins by a landslide. The employment advisor decides to give Gildersleeve a job that he believes is perfect for him: as butler at the Monotony poorhouse, where Jed and Belinda marry.

- DirectorRay NazarroStarsEddy ArnoldJeff DonnellJock MahoneyCowboy movie star Stoney Rhodes (Jock Mahoney as Jock O'Mahoney) has made one western film and thinks he is on a personal appearance tour paid for by the studio, but he and his film were so bad that the studio, unknown to Stoney, has cancelled his contract, and his mother has mortgaged her home to supply the funds necessary for the tour and expenses of Stoney and his agent. (Stoney is shown in front of two theatres where Columbia, missing no bets, has displays of one-sheet posters from "Strawberry Roan" with Gene Autry and "The Undercover Man" with Glenn Ford.) Reporter Vera Wright (Jeff Donnell), following him to get a story of a failure, informs Stoney that he is a never-was has-been, and they find themselves stranded in the hometown of Eddy Arnold, where Eddy's film "cousin" Carolina Cotton (Carolina Cotton) quickly takes a shine to the shy and clumsy Stoney. Eddy sees a print of Stoney's film in which the character is singing "I Can't Shake the Sands of Texas From My Shoes" and is impressed and telephones his agent Sam Baker (Fred Sears) to come there quickly and sign Stoney to a contract, especially since he sounds like Gene Autry. Meanwhile, some bank robbers and gangsters get involved and have their eyes on the proceeds from a charity fund-raiser Eddy is doing. When the agent shows up to sign Stoney to a recording contract because "you sound like Gene Autry", Stoney says that is because it was Gene Autry doing the singing in the film. The film is somewhat of an inside joke built around ace stuntman Mahoney, in that his Stoney role is the opposite of his real-life abilities, and most of the males in the cast, Big Boy Williams, Douglas Fowley, Don Harvey and Charles Sullivan, takes turns beating him up and knocking him out...when he isn't falling out of hay lofts or involved in accidents. But a kiss from Carolina makes a new man out of him and the gangsters are rounded up in a one-man blitz, and Stoney ends up with eight studios bidding for his services. Eddy performs most of his best-selling hits of the day, with the exception of "Cattle Call", the vastly-underrated Carolina Cotton (as a performer and actress with a personality) yodels up a storm, and this overall turns out to be a pretty fair little sleeper, especially in regards to films where Hollywood takes a poke at itself. And probably unknown to those who go around compiling such lists.

- DirectorPreston CollinsJames DinetStarsWebb PierceThe Wilburn BrothersDoyle WilburnThis is a musical movie exploring different places and venues in Nashville, TN relative to country music in 1965. These include several places within the Broadway area, a club, and even a couple of mentions of WENO radio, a local country radio station that served the Nashville area at that time. This movie features the music of Webb Pierce, the Wilburn Brothers, Lorene Mann, Warner Mack, Loretta Lynn, Justin Tubb, Dave Dudley, Jean Shephard, Charlie Louvin, Autry Inman, and Gordon Terry, along with some fantastic musicians and a few others. The L & C Tower is featured prominently in the movie so please watch for it. Also, there is a 1913 car in the movie that is carrying several people on Broadway. The story behind that is it was a prize winning for the wife of Billy Robinson, a steel player for the Prince Albert Grand Ole Opry 1948-1952. They sold the car shortly after it was delivered to their home to WENO radio, and it was used for promotional purposes by that station for a number of years. Watch for it in the movie as well. T Tommy Cutrer is one of the main people in the movie. He was a famous annohncer on the Grand Ole Opry in the years prior to this and was involved in politics by the time this movie was filmed (1965). - DirectorJulie SimoneStarsPresley BarkerWayne C. HendersonKitty AmaralWinning over 20 awards on the festival circuit, FIDDLIN' had a nationwide U.S. theatrical event tour playing upwards of 50 markets and rocketed to the top of the iTunes Doc Charts upon release. Set in the Appalachian Mountains, FIDDLIN' is a foot-stomping celebration of true Americana profiling the birthplace of Bluegrass and Old-Time music. This hopeful, inspiring documentary shines a light on what is best about America. Filmed at the World's Oldest Fiddler's Convention, Fiddlin' shows the uplifting and healing power of music. With multi-generations jamming together and kids holding instruments instead of phones, it feels like taking a step back in time as we witness some off-the-charts pickin' and fiddlin'. There is an abundance of raw talent in FIDDLIN', with most talent playing by ear and certainly a number of stars in the making. Wayne Henderson, a world-renowned luthier known as the "guitar god," is a master craftsman and enthralling storyteller. Wayne's friendship with 11-year-old guitar prodigy, Presley Barker, shows how closely knit a community of musicians can be as even mentor and student compete against one another for that coveted blue ribbon. Phenomenal female talents, including Dori Freeman, Martha Spencer, Ivy Phillips and Kitty Amaral are all making their mark. They reveal the difficulties of women breaking into the bluegrass world. Karen Carr describes how music helped her overcome mental illness and saved her life. Sensational flat-foot dancing and some of the last known footage of Doc Watson visiting Wayne Henderson in his guitar shop are but a few topics in this rollicking documentary. Eddie Bond and Jon Lohman share little known history of the music origins and Jake Krack electrifies with his fiddle. These mountain musicians are determined to pass on their music and traditions with most claiming they will "play till the day they die". When the top 10 finalists are announced in the ultra-competitive guitar, we're in for an exciting finale. Sister filmmakers, Julie Simone and Vicki Vlasic, returned to their Appalachian roots to film FIDDLIN' at the Old Fiddlers' Convention for the first time in its 80 year history.
