Two sequels followed to diminishing returns (though there are still good gags to be enjoyed in both), but we started to hear rumours of a remake in development years ago. Saturday Night Live skits have given us some of the funniest and most enjoyable movies of their eras. Ok, there aren’t many – we’re really mostly talking about The Blues Brothers, the Wayne’s World double feature and MacGruber – but what’s there is choice comedy. On the other side, we have crap like It’s Pat, The Ladies Man and Stuart Saves His Family, all proving that just because something works for five minutes doesn’t mean it can sustain 90. Take another recurring skit, Debbie Downer, for another example, who Rachel Dratch turned into a signature character in more than a half-dozen appearances. Thankfully such a movie never happened – something that Dratch is perfectly fine with.
Speaking with ComicBook.com, Rachel Dratch recognized that while the character stands as one of her greatest contributions to SNL, she just wouldn’t have the legs to make it on the big screen.

As one might expect, SNL alums David Spade and Dana Carvey have feelings about that upcoming Chris Farley biopic. The two SNL alums were, of course, colleagues and friends of Farley’s, and are understandably protective of his legacy.
“I don’t know how I’m…” Spade says hesitantly in a just-released episode of their Superfly podcast. “[I’m] a little ambivalent about it. I don’t know.”
“I had heard some whispers about this for a long time. I’ve run into this guy Paul,” Spade says of actor Paul Walter Hauser, who is set to star as Farley in the film. “He’s a very nice guy. I think he’s been wanting to do this for a while.”
Carvey voices tentative support for the project, saying “In all seriousness, I wish [Hauser] the best. I think it’s great.” But he also makes sure to note the difficulty of portraying someone like Farley.

Though the tide of late has turned more towards a Bohemian Rhapsody-powered focus on biopics of musicians, there is always room for other entertainers with particularly compelling stories. One such example is Saturday Night Live staple-turned-film comedy actor Chris Farley, whose star burned bright before it was snuffed out decades too early by excess and addiction. Paul Walter Hauser is now attached to star as Farley in the film to be directed by actor/producer and now filmmaker Josh Gad.
Farley, who initially had seemed destined to join his father in the oil business, was lured away by the thrill of performing, eventually ending up at Chicago's Second City improv troupe (which he joined the same day as fellow future comedy icon Stephen Colbert) and from there was recruited by Lorne Michaels for SNL.

Saturday Night Live fans may soon have another reason to go to the movies, as a Chris Farley biopic is currently being shopped to studios by SNL creator Lorne Michaels.
It probably won’t take long for the project to find a home, as the biopic has already attracted an A-list team of players both in front of and behind the camera.
In addition to Michaels, Emmy-winning actor Paul Walter Hauser is attached to star as Farley. It’s truly a dream role for the Black Bird and Cobra Kai actor; back in 2021, Hauser told THR about how he’d once approached the Farley family about collaborating on a film about the late comedian, but that it ultimately didn’t work out.

Emma Stone is proving two Oscars and being an Emmy hopeful isn’t a curse by any means.
The “Poor Things” Academy Award winner is already starring in Yorgos Lanthimos’ follow-up “Kinds of Kindness,” which will debut at Cannes 2024, and she’s also attached to Lanthimos’ upcoming satirical film “Save the Green Planet,” a remake of the Korean comedy of the same name. But Stone has yet another project in the works too: leading an untitled Universal feature directed by her real-life husband.

Here's a lesson for the kids out there: speak your dreams into existence and maybe, just maybe, they'll actually come true. Tragically, those who follow the comedy scene closely know that it's littered with high-profile examples of beloved talent who ended up burning out and leaving us far too soon. This one, however, might end up circling back to the best of silver linings.
Today's news has to do with Chris Farley, the late, great "Saturday Night Live" actor and comedian who passed away at the age of 33 back in 1997. He may not be as well-known a quantity among younger generations, but their older siblings and parents can certainly fill them in on the prolific, scene-stealing theatrics of the man who rose to prominence through "SNL" and subsequently made audiences cry with laughter in movies such as "Wayne's World" and its sequel, "Coneheads," "Airheads," and even an uncredited role in Adam Sandler's "Billy Madison.

It’s one of the most iconic Saturday Night Live sketches of all time — and without Christina Applegate, it might never have happened at all.
Applegate recalled the role she played in getting the sketch on the air while chatting with Dana Carvey and David Spade on today’s episode of “Fly on the Wall,” the duo’s SNL-centric podcast.
Applegate first hosted SNL on May 8, 1993 — an episode most famous for the first appearance of Chris Farley’s motivational speaker character Matt Foley, aka the “Van Down by the River” guy.
In the infamous sketch, Farley’s over-the-top physical comedy quickly causes Applegate and Spade to break into laughter. They struggle to contain it for the rest of the scene, as Farley hikes his pants up, squats low, and destroys a coffee table with an explosive jump.

So what can be said about Andy Dick that the paparazzi and nearly every Judge from West Virginia to Los Angeles hasn’t already said? He was once a rising star in the comedy world with lovably nerdy characters on hit TV series before his demons grabbed a hold of him and took him down an over 25 year path of endless headlines with his name often times preceding the word “arrested.” In those years, he has compiled more Mug Shots than Head Shots and went from Star on the Rise to Registered Sex Offender. Yeah, I don’t know how else to say this other than: Wtf Happened to Andy Dick?!

From being a quintessential rom-com lead to bringing his humor to the screens since he was in his early 20s, Sandler has a pretty impressive portfolio. But did you know that before he started doing movies, he was part of Saturday Night Live, the comic sketch show on NBC?
Adam Sandler in Happy Gilmore
Adam Sandler was a cast member on SNL from 1990 to 1995, and part of many hit sketches in his tenure as a writer and eventually a featured artist. But in 1995, even before his contract expired, he was shown the door by the show executives. Barry Egan is not a particularly easygoing guy. The protagonist of Paul Thomas Anderson's 2002 film "Punch-Drunk Love" is socially awkward, highly anxious, and clearly has trouble regulating his emotions in a healthy way. When he calls a phone sex line, it's because he's lonely and just wants to connect with another person. But as played by Adam Sandler, who was exclusively known for his comedic work until then, Barry becomes someone the audience roots for. Since we have a history with Sandler as someone who has made us laugh, we're perhaps more endeared to this eccentric character than we might've been otherwise.
Anderson knew this -- he was dead set on casting Sandler in "Punch-Drunk Love" from the moment he came up with the concept -- and saw potential in Sandler that no other director had seen at that point. By hiring him to star in this small, bizarre romance,...

Netflix comedy movies in March 2024 cover every subgenre in the category. Whether you’re looking to stream slapstick, a rom-com, or something with a side of horror, Netflix’s March additions have something for you.
While any time is a good time to watch a comedy, springtime and laughs can go hand-in-hand. With warmer weather (and summer blockbusters) around the corner, spend your March with Netflix’s best comedy movies.
‘Beverly Hills Ninja’ Coming to Netflix March 1
Celebrate comedy legend Chris Farley by streaming Beverly Hills Ninja on Netflix beginning March 1. The 1997 martial arts comedy marks the final film released during Farley’s lifetime, as the actor died less than a year after its release.
Farley stars as Haru, adopted as a child by a clan of ninjas who believe he’ll become the master promised in legends. As expected, Haru never entirely becomes a ninja despite his best efforts.

“If you’re listening to our podcast right now, you probably know about my family’s loss,” Carvey said at the top of the show. “I just wanted to say that the amount of outpouring online and emailing and people I still haven’t been able to call back is incredible.”

The former SNL star said he had pondered his return over the holidays “and decided to come back to the podcast because I think, you know, it’s a long day when you’re not working and you get in your head, and I think it’s going to be a great break. And I think it’s really cool to laugh.”
