A year and a half ago, it was announced that Willa Fitzgerald and Kyle Gallner – who both have experience working in the Scream franchise, as Fitzgerald was in the Scream TV series and Gallner appeared in the 2022 Scream movie – were set to star in the “cat and mouse thriller” Strange Darling. Now we know when we’re going to have a chance to see this movie, as Variety has confirmed that veteran producer Bob Yari’s new company Magenta Light Studios has secured the U.S. distribution rights to the film and they’re planning to give it a wide theatrical release on August 23rd.
Plot details on this thriller are being kept under wraps, and Variety notes that reviews from audience members who saw the movie at Fantastic Fest last year ” hint that the film works best with as little information as possible going in.” Apparently it has something...

“Strange Darling,” the acclaimed horror film from director Jt Mollner, has landed a major U.S. distribution deal at veteran producer Bob Yari’s new company Magenta Light Studios.
Premiering at the genre event Fantastic Fest in 2023, the Miramax-produced thriller has been universally praised (it currently sits at 100% Fresh on Rotten Tomatoes with 14 reviews) for its inventive narrative structure and lead performances. Magenta Light has set an August 23 wide release.
“We are thrilled to be bringing nationwide theatrical audiences this unique and exceptional film with terrific performances by Willa Fitzgerald and Kyle Gallner. This second feature from talented writer-director Jt Mollner is destined to become a cult classic that defies conventional storytelling,” Yari told Variety.

Well, this is a semi-dangerous decision. Yes, I’m starting with The Twilight Zone 80s. Niki, haven’t we been telling you to do Og Twilight Zone… why are you doing this? A couple of reasons, the first being that this has been on repeat for me the past 6 months or longer, with Tales from the Crypt never being too far behind it. The other being that I felt like it. You’re lucky I didn’t start with Night Gallery, or maybe that’s what you wanted. So let’s talk 80s Twilight Zone, or New Twilight Zone, or Twilight Zone reboot/revival, whatever you choose to call it.
The reason to give it another go was simple. Rod Serling, my personal hero, sold the rights to Twilight Zone after the show ended its run in 1964. The studio bought the rights even though they weren’t exactly ready to start it up again.

Costner's love for Westerns shines through in Horizon: An American Saga, a passion project decades in the making. Despite Dances with Wolves' huge success, Horizon has potential to be another hit by Costner's dedication. Costner's belief in Horizon's success is evident in his departure from Yellowstone to focus on the new project.
In June 2024, Kevin Costner is releasing his next big project, Horizon: An American Saga, and though the film has all the makings of a hit, what will truly stand in the way of its success is Costner's 34-year-old Western classic. Over the course of his career, Kevin Costner has made a name for himself as an action and Western star. Though his more recent claim to fame revolved around his Western family drama, Yellowstone, in the last year Costner has dedicated himself to a new Western project that is supposedly going to be one of his best.

The Gentlemen is the latest entry into Guy Ritchie‘s chaotic and hilarious world of crime. The Netflix series is created by Ritchie himself and it is set in the world of Ritchie’s 2019 film of the same name. It follows the story of Eddie Horniman, who unexpectedly inherits the title of Duke and his father’s whole estate. Still, he is more surprised as what he doesn’t know is that his father was in cahoots with criminals, who were growing cannabis on their estate. Eddie decides that he wants to rid his family estate of all the weed plants and criminals, but before he can do that he might have to do some criminal things himself first. The Gentlemen stars Theo James in the lead roles with Kaya Scodelario, Daniel Ings, Vinnie Jones, Ruby Sear, Joely Richardson, Giancarlo Esposito, Alexis Rodney, and Harry Goodwins starring in supporting roles.

Keanu Reeves has made his way through a stellar career playing nice guy, dog-loving heroes that we love to root for. From Neo in The Matrix to Jack Traven in Speed, from John Wick to Johnny Utah in Point Break, and from the titular Constantine to the legendary Ted "Theodore" Logan — one-half of the lovable thrash rockers in Bill & Ted's Excellent Adventure —, it's safe to say that we love to love Keanu. So, when he pops up in an outlier role in a movie that may have flown under your radar, we are ready to bring it to your attention. The year was 2000 and the film was a southern gothic offering called The Gift. It was directed by horror legend Sam Raimi, written by Billy Bob Thornton, and stars Cate Blanchett (way before she was considered an Oscar lock for every role she takes). The pedigree is there (albeit early...

Kevin Costner’s hugely ambitious western saga arrives this summer: here’s the new trailer, but no UK release yet.
Regular readers of this site may be already aware just how much I’m looking forward to the most ambitious Kevin Costner project in years. It’s Horizon: An American Saga, a series of four films that Costner is part-funding. Just as with his last directorial effort, the brilliant 2003 western Open Range, he’s independently funded the movie, and brought in distributors afterwards.
In the US, it’s New Line Cinema – and thus Warner Bros – that’s going to be releasing the first two films, both of which are coming out this summer. The first lands in June, the second lands in August, and both are getting US cinema releases.
As far as I’ve been able to ascertain, and heck I’ve been looking, there’s been no deal...

Kevin Costner on Monday shared on socials a first trailer for Horizon, the two-part Western epic that played a role in his growing frustrations with his Yellowstone experience.
Before the WGA strike began last May, Yellowstone co-creator Taylor Sheridan had completed scripts for the back half of the show’s fifth season that did not include Costner, whose alleged demands had been widely reported. Per the industry-insider newsletter Puck, Costner’s reps later expressed his desire to return for Season 5B and possibly more.

Part one of “Horizon: An American Saga,” the multi-film Western epic that Kevin Costner left “Yellowstone” to make, will hit theaters on June 28, with part two to follow on August 16. Warner Bros. released a trailer for the two-part film on Monday.
The trailer promises a sprawling, colorful, violent Western film about Manifest Destiny. It’s about the settling of the titular town during the years of the Civil War, as the American frontier pushes westward and settlers come into conflict with the people indigenous to the land. “There’s no army on this Earth that are going to stop those wagons coming,” a Union Army officer played by Costner’s “Yellowstone” co-star Danny Huston warns in something like the trailer’s thesis statement.
Costner wrote the script for “Horizon” with Jon Baird, produces with Howard Kaplan and Mark Gillard, directs, and stars. It’s his first time directing a film since 2003’s “Open Range,...

Sorting through America’s history is a Herculean task. Humans built the nation with blood, sweat, and tears, watering the soil with memory, pain, and perseverance. Today, Kevin Costner’s Horizon: An American Saga trailer explores the settlement of America’s Western frontier from the Indigenous groups who blessed the land to those who occupied it by force. Horizon will be Kevin Costner‘s first time directing a movie since Open Range in 2003. He also busted out his directing chops for The Postman and Dances with Wolves, the latter of which earned him an Academy Award for Best Director.
Kevin Costner’s Horizon will “span 15 years in the settlement of America’s Western frontier, and focus on both the settlers as well as the Indigenous groups that first occupied the land.”
Here’s the official synopsis for Horizon: An American Saga courtesy of Warner Bros.:

Animation mastermind Seth MacFarlane made a name for himself with the creation of "Family Guy." After working on Hanna-Barbera cartoons like "Dexter's Laboratory" and "Johnny Bravo," MacFarlane would bring his irreverent riff on the animated family sitcom to Fox in 1999. Though the series was initially canceled after three seasons, the show's release on DVD resulted in renewed interest from both audiences and the network, and the show has been running for 22 seasons and counting. Since then, MacFarlane has created several more animated hits, including "American Dad" and the "Family Guy" spin-off "The Cleveland Show," but he's also shifted into both live-action TV and movies, which includes the raunchy buddy comedy franchise "Ted."
"Ted" follows the antics of John Bennett (Mark Wahlberg), a thirty-something who is best friends with a teddy bear that magically came to life after wishing on a magic star when John was just a boy. It might sound family friendly and whimsical,...

With only two films in James Cameron’s Avatar series since 2009, it is challenging to imagine the existence of five installments by 2031, let alone two more movies later. That’s right, folks. I said two more movies! According to James Cameron, he has ideas for Avatar 6 and Avatar 7, but there’s a twist. Instead of dedicating the remainder of his mortality to the effects-driven, money-printing franchise, he could pass the torch to another filmmaker.
Speaking with Collider about the Avatar franchise’s future, Cameron said, “We’re fully written through movie five, and I’ve got ideas for six and seven, although I’ll probably be handing the baton on at that point,” he said. “I mean, mortality catches up. But I mean, we’re enjoying what we’re doing. We’re loving it. We get to work with great people.”

Avatar 3 is nearly complete, with just a small percentage left to shoot, and some additional pick-ups scheduled for June. Advanced technology has made the production process quicker, and the visual effects are now being worked on. The focus is not just on technology, but on the creativity and artistic process involved, with thousands of people working together on the film.
Though the wait for the first sequel was well over a decade, James Cameron's detailed Avatar 3 production update assures the next installment is just about ready. Plot details remain unknown for the third entry in the hit sci-fi action franchise, though is expected to see the continuation of the war between the Na'vi and humanity for control of the alien planet, Pandora. Sam Worthington and Zoe Saldaña are returning to lead the Avatar 3 cast alongside Sigourney Weaver, Stephen Lang, Giovanni Ribisi, Kate Winslet, Cliff Curtis, Joel David Moore and Cch Pounder.

Netflix's Lift received poor reviews on Rotten Tomatoes, but Sam Worthington has another highly anticipated project in 2024 to redeem himself. Lift's low Tomatometer and Audience Score indicate that the movie is considered bad by both critics and viewers. Despite Lift's negative reception, Worthington has Horizon: An American Saga to look forward to, which has the potential to give him a positive Rotten Tomatoes score.

According to a new report, Horizon: An American Saga chapters 3 and 4 are encountering funding issues, with Kevin Coster struggling to find investors. Chapters 1 and 2 of the Western epic are due out this summer, but the expensive films represent a major risk in today's theatrical landscape. It's possible that the two movies won't perform, meaning Costner's planned third and fourth movies don't happen.
Horizon: An American Saga, Kevin Costner's upcoming two-part Western, is reportedly encountering issues behind-the-scenes with its planned sequels. One-hit-wonders are an unusual thing. There are endless examples of artists that create something monumental that blasts its way into the pop culture zeitgeist and temporarily enchants and captures our attention. Then as quickly as they came, they seem to disappear. That is the idea behind 1996’s That Thing You Do! Ambiguous endings, when done well, can leave audiences scratching their heads and debating the meaning of the film for years to come.
A movie's final scene can affect how audiences feel about the entire story, but some endings are so confusing that they have been at the center of debates for years, or even decades. Confusing endings usually fall into one of two categories. The first category is the purposefully ambiguous ending, where audiences are left with unanswered questions about what happens next or what they have just seen, like how Rocky III ends with a freeze-frame as the fight begins. The other type of confusing ending involves a puzzling scene where the audience...

The star-studded cast of Horizon: An American Saga, including Sienna Miller and Sam Worthington, brings immense talent to the movie. Oscar-winner Kevin Costner will direct and star in the upcoming two-part western Horizon: An American Saga, but his character is not the most exciting element of the much-anticipated drama. The epic Western has generated headlines due to Costner's unconventional release plan and the controversy surrounding Costner's exit from the hit drama Yellowstone to work on the passion project, but there are still fairly few details available. Ted 2 is packed with pop culture references and celebrity cameos, adding to the star-studded cast in this irreverent comedy. Liam Neeson makes a brief and absurd appearance as a grizzled man who questions Ted's ability to buy Trix cereal. Late-night hosts Jay Leno, Jimmy Kimmel, and Jimmy Fallon all make appearances, with Leno's involvement in one scene being the most surprising.
As is the case with most Seth MacFarlane projects, Ted 2 is stuffed full of pop culture references and celebrity cameos. Serial-killer movies are a dime a dozen these days, with the true-crime industrial complex exploiting the ill-deeds sprees of increasingly obscure murderers to keep up with audience demand. Anyone wary of the genre might balk at the idea of “Strange Darling,” a cat-and-mouse drama about the tail end of a murder spree, but to do so would be to miss out on an exemplar of the form. Writer-director Jt Mollner flips the script on this tired genre, crafting the cleverest thriller of its kind in a while with a mighty assist from a pair of killer performances by co-leads Willa Fitzgerald and Kyle Gallner. Best experienced with as little foreknowledge as possible, “Strange Darling” demands a bit of patience, but it also rewards it.

Over the course of 100 minutes, Lost in Translation explores the relationship between two lost souls. Romantic and well-observed, with rich performances from Scarlett Johansson and Bill Murray, the movie captures the longing shared by two people who don’t belong anywhere. At the end of the film, aging actor Bob Harris (Murray) hugs young grad student and newlywed Charlotte and whispers something in her ear. There’s a scene in Jt Mollner’s Strange Darling where Ed Begley Jr. makes breakfast. He chars sausages, unsheathes and melts a stick of yellow butter, then cracks a messload of eggs and leaves them to bubble while pouring out thick globs of pancake batter in a second pan. He layers the cakes with the eggs and encased pork meat and yet more butter before drowning the whole thing in whipped cream that promptly starts to liquefy.
