(Warning: Spoilers ahead for The Fall Guy movie.)
Yes, The Fall Guy is based on a TV series.
If you weren’t aware of that, it’s likely because you’re of a younger generation that wasn’t alive or old enough to remember the series, which hasn’t exactly re-entered the zeitgeist in the four decades since it went off the air. (An unscientific scan of social media shows more than a few folks who had no idea of the original IP.) But for moviegoers of a certain age, there are references to the series that inspire nostalgia.
The show, which aired from 1981-86, starred Lee Majors as a stuntman who moonlighted as a bounty hunter. The movie stars Ryan Gosling in the lead role, who is also a stuntman. While the movie is not an exact copy of the show, there are several ways in which the film...

As a Gen Xer who grew up fascinated by The Six Million Dollar Man and in turn tuned in for Lee Majors’ The Fall Guy, I walked into the Ryan Gosling/Emily Blunt movie this weekend with a certain excitement, but also tempered expectations.
As a rule, I don’t read reviews before seeing a movie. But I’d glimpsed enough headlines and social media chatter to know that The Fall Guy was only (very) “loosely” based on the ABC action series that ran for five seasons. I like Gosling, love Blunt and enjoy stunt work, so I decided to take a flyer on this.

“I knew daredevils — and I ain’t got nothing against ‘em — it’s just they’re all dead.”
So says the titular character of “The Stunt Man” to his trainer the first time his desire for mortality is put into question. The theme of death is a constant one in this 1980 film. It’s what propels the main character, Vietnam-Vet Cameron, to go on the run — the state in which we meet him at the beginning of the film. It’s what draws him to a movie set near the beach where dozens of bodies are ripped apart, sporting soldier’s uniforms from World War I, and buried across the sand. It’s what fascinates the film’s director, Eli Cross, whose need to draw reality out of a production that’s drowning in artifice places Cameron in the precarious position of both stuntman and muse. This article contains major spoilers for "The Fall Guy."
This weekend, "The Fall Guy" kicks off blockbuster summer with Ryan Gosling and Emily Blunt starring in an endlessly entertaining blend of incredible action, charming romance, and Hollywood satire that makes for a spectacular time at the movies. The film follows Hollywood stuntman Colt Seavers (Gosling) as he gets recruited to track down A-list star Tom Ryder (Aaron Taylor-Johnson), the actor Colt used to double for before a freak accident took him out of the stunt game. If Ryder can't be found, it could end up derailing the blockbuster movie "Metalstorm" being directed by his estranged ex-girlfriend Jody Moreno (Blunt). Explosions, intrigue, car chases, fights with fists and bullets, and much more ensue while trying to solve the mystery and save the movie.
But did you know "The Fall Guy" is actually based on a classic TV show from the 1980s?...

Based on the television show of the same name that ran for five seasons from 1981-86 and starred Lee Majors and Heather Thomas, director David Leitch’s new film, The Fall Guy, employs the same combination of action and sexual tension that fueled the show (albeit not necessarily between the two main characters). This approach makes for an entertaining and somewhat nostalgic aura around a film that, if approached a different way, could have resulted in another disappointing cinematic adaptation of a popular television property.
Colt Seavers (Ryan Gosling) is a stuntman at the top of his game. He is performing death-defying stunts alongside his wannabe director girlfriend Jody (Emily Blunt) until one stunt goes awry and a severely injured Colt all but retires from the profession. That is, until his services are requested on the film that his now ex-girlfriend Jody is making her directorial debut with. The prospect...

The 80s were a time when country music and a type of hero born of the good ol boy class that came into his own. This could be seen in shows like The Dukes of Hazzard, Bj and The Bear, as well as movies like Any Which Way But Loose and Smokey and the Bandit. They were a time of what would be considered fun action films and TV. Again, this was personified in shows where usually no one got seriously hurt, like The A-Team. The bad guys went to the same shooting school as your friendly neighborhood Stormtroopers. But, one TV show that would personify this “nobody better get hurt” adventure series was The Fall Guy.

Gosling does the dirty work in this entertaining action film, which has moments of tenderness with Blunt among the crashes, leaps and fireballs
You might need to get your indulgent smile firmly in place for this colossal action comedy – not unlike the adorable smirks on the faces of its male and female leads, Ryan Gosling and Emily Blunt, who play the daredevil movie stuntman and the stern director with whom he is in love. It’s a goofy summer crowd-pleaser (and you can never have too many of those) that is very far from the edgier and more satirical mien of Richard Rush’s 1980 movie The Stunt Man, in which a Vietnam draft evader hides out on a movie location, doing dangerous stunts in return for anonymity. Actually, this one is loosely inspired by a 1980s TV show, also called The Fall Guy, about a stuntman with a parallel career...

Colt Seaver seems to have it all. He has one of the best jobs in the world as the stuntman for the world’s biggest action star, Tom Ryder. On top of that, he has fallen in love with camera operator Jody Moreno.
Everything seems perfect. But when a stunt on Ryder’s latest film goes wrong, Colt finds himself severely injured. No longer feeling invincible, he withdraws from everything… including his relationship with Jody.
Eighteen months later, Colt finds himself at rock bottom when the phone rings. Producer Gail Meyer wants him to return to stunts for Tom Ryder.
Colt is initially skeptical until Gail tells him that Jody is the director of Tom’s big blockbuster film, and she has requested him to do stunts. Seeing an opportunity to rekindle the flame with Jody, he immediately hops on a flight to Sydney to join the production.

Kamala Harris And Doug Emhoff Address Israel-Hamas War Protests At Los Angeles Reelection Fundraiser
Updated: Vice President Kamala Harris and Second Gentleman Doug Emhoff, appearing at a Los Angeles re-election fundraiser tonight, each addressed the Israel-Gaza war protests that have highlighted a split on the left.
About two dozen pro-Palestinian demonstrators were outside the event, held at the home of entertainment attorney Cliff Gilbert-Lurie and Leslie Gilbert-Lurie, and some of the protesters chanted “Free Palestine” and held a banner that read “No pride in genocide,” according to a pool report. Demonstrators also threw fake blood in front of the home, and placed their red handprints on the ground, as they have at other protests.
Inside, with about 140 people in attendance, Leslie Gilbert-Lurie introduced Emhoff and told the crowd, “At this heart breaking moment when antisemitism is rapidly gaining traction along with Islamophobia, racism and xenophobia, it is so reassuring to know that the Second Gentleman understands what many of us are experiencing.”

“The Fall Guy” is now crash landing in theaters on May 3, 2024, after “Deadpool 3” vacated the release slot amid the work stoppage caused by the recently ended SAG-AFTRA strike.
David Leitch’s action thriller, starring Ryan Gosling and Emily Blunt, was originally set to release on March 1, 2024. Based on Glen A. Larson’s 1980s television series of the same name, the film stars Gosling as Colt, a stuntman on the hunt for a missing movie star he once doubled for. Blunt stars as Gosling’s director and ex-girlfriend Jody Moreno, while Aaron Taylor-Johnson plays Awol star Tom Ryder.
Stephanie Hsu (“Everything Everywhere All at Once”), Winston Duke (“Black Panther”), Hannah Waddingham (“Ted Lasso”) and Teresa Palmer (“A Discovery of Witches”) round out the cast.
Disney previously announced that several films have been delayed due to the actors strike, including “Deadpool 3,” Marvel’s “Thunderbolts,” “Mufasa: The Lion King” and its “Blade” reboot.

Universal Pictures is relocating the unknown stuntman. The studio announced Tuesday that its upcoming adaptation of the 1980s TV series “The Fall Guy” is moving to May 3, 2024.
The news comes less than a week after the end of the SAG-AFTRA strike, which kickstarted Hollywood production after the months-long halt to most industry business.
Starring Ryan Gosling in the role originated by Lee Majors, the film follows Colt Seavers, a stunt performer who moonlights as a private investigator. While working on a film directed by his ex, Jody Moreno (Emily Blunt), he’s recruited by the film’s producer (Hannah Waddingham) to find the film’s missing star (Aaron Taylor-Johnson) while keeping his disappearance a secret from the studio and the public.

The small towns of Oklahoma aren’t often seen on-screen. In fact, the new FX on Hulu show “Reservation Dogs,” which debuted Aug. 9, is the first scripted television series to film the entirety of its season in the state.
Authenticity was imperative to Sterlin Harjo, co-creator along with Taika Waititi of the half-hour comedy, which revolves around four teenagers who live on a reservation and dream of moving to California. Harjo, who grew up in Oklahoma, called on production designer Brandon Tonner-Connolly to find the right organic look in towns like Okmulgee, center of the Muscogee reservation. For a “heightened sensibility to make the sets cinematic,” Tonner-Connolly says he enhanced the color palette of the homes and other places he saw in the community, as well as adding story-driven particulars.

Heather Thomas would definitely qualify as one of the actresses you’ve likely seen once or twice throughout your life but would really have to pinpoint to remember since it would seem that she’s been around, but she’s also been out of the business for a while. To say that she has the look of a movie star and someone that’s seen a few things is fair but it’s also fair to point out that she did manage to take a rather long break in between, kind of disappearing for a while only to come back more than a decade later
Whatever Happened to Heather Thomas?...

McG is in talks to direct Dwayne Johnson in an upcoming new film project called The Fall Guy, which is an adaptation of a 1980s TV series. Apparently people in Hollywood have been trying to get an adaptation of this made for years. At one point Casino Royal's Martin Campbell was going to direct Nicolas Cage. I'm not sure if the new team is much better.
I've never seen the series, but it aired on ABC from 1981 to 1986 and starred Lee Majors as "a Hollywood stunt man who supplemented his income by doing bounty hunter work. He was joined on his escapades, which usually involved him transferring a stunt from a movie to the job at hand, by his sidekick cousin (Douglas Barr) and a fetching female stunt actress played by Heather Thomas."

I don’t even remember “The Fall Guy” TV show, but I do remember it was pretty popular. It would have to be, since it ran for five seasons. Then again, shows back then tended to have a bigger shelf life, and there isn’t the cut-throat “get ratings now!” demands of today’s network TV. In any case, the show is getting a Hollywood makeover, with Dwayne Johnson and producer/director McG (“Terminator Salvation”) teaming up for a “Fall Guy” movie. Johnson, of course, is in talks to star, with McG directing and producing. The early ’80s TV show starred the Six Million Dollar Man himself, Lee Majors as Colt Seavers, a Hollywood stuntman who moonlights as a bounty hunter. It co-starred Heather Thomas as his sexy sidekick, a fellow Hollywood stuntwoman who joined him in his adventures, which usually involved some kind of Hollywood stunt. That’s, you know,...

The big-screen remake of the 1980s TV series "The Fall Guy" may have found its "Guy:" Dwayne Johnson is in talks to star in the long-awaited reboot.
Along with the "Hercules: The Thracian Wars" actor, McG is also currently in talks to direct the movie version of the '80s TV series, THR reports. The film is being presented to potential buyers at the Toronto Film Festival, happening this week.
The original version of "The Fall Guy" was an ABC series that ran from 1981 to 1986, starring Lee Majors as a Hollywood stunt man who worked a side job as a bounty hunter. His exploits usually involved him transferring a stunt from a movie to the job at hand, and he was joined by his sidekick cousin (Douglas Barr) and a female stunt actress (Heather Thomas).

The original series, which ran for five seasons beginning in 1981, starred Lee Majors as Colt Seavers, a Hollywood stuntman who also worked as a bounty hunter. Created by Glen A. Larson, the show also starred Douglas Barr and Heather Thomas. Welcome back to This Week In Discs! As always, if you see something you like, click on the image to buy it. The Big Picture Paul (Romain Duris) is a successful lawyer with a wife and two beautiful kids, but something is amiss in his marriage. He envies his neighbor Greg’s casual freedoms, but when he discovers his wife has been loving Greg in some far more physical ways, a conversation between the two men leads to an incident that sends Paul running for his life. This French thriller is based on a novel by Douglas Kennedy, and as they did with Harlan Coben’s Tell No One, the result is a far more literate thriller than we would probably get from Hollywood. Duris is a fantastic actor, and he invests Paul with passion and emotional intensity as his mistake leads to a life he’s always wanted but was afraid to attempt. The...

Yesterday we reported on the news that Bill Paxton would potentially adapt the '70s TV series Kung Fu for the big screen, and now today we have another similar story to address. It seems that the '80s TV show The Fall Guy is also about to get a feature film reboot, and director Martin Campbell (Green Lantern) is in "early discussions" to direct. The show ran from 1981 to 1986 and starred The Six Million Dollar Man himself Lee Majors as a Hollywood stunt man named Colt Seavers (great name) who works as a bounty hunter in his off-hours. It was created by Glen A. Larson, the same man who brought us such classic shows as Knight Rider, Magnum P.I. and Battlestar Galactica. The Fall Guy was just slightly before my time as I seem to remember the toys more than the actual show itself. Much like The A-Team, there...

Briefly: A film version of one of the few action-oriented '80s TV shows to escape new exploitation so far, The Fall Guy, is moving forward once more. Martin Campbell (Green Lantern, Casino Royale) is in "early talks" to direct the film. The script is by Ashley Miller and Zack Stentz, who contributed to X-Men: First Class. The 1981 series was Lee Majors' follow-up to The Six Million-Dollar Man. Douglas Barr and popular '80s pinup Heather Thomas co-starred in stories about a stunt man who works nights as a bounty hunter. (The big idea here in the wake of the 2011 summer season: make a version of Drive that could make money.) There was an economic aspect to the show, as Majors' character needed to do the bounty hunter work to make ends meet. No word on casting yet, but the central role is one that any physically skilled guy could play.

According to reports, writers Ashley Miller and Zack Stentz ("Thor", "X-Men: First Class") are developing a new screenplay based on the action/adventure, stunt man TV series "The Fall Guy" for the husband-wife team of DreamWorks' producers Walter F. Parkes ("Gladiator") and Laurie MacDonald ("Men In Black III").
ABC's "The Fall Guy", created by Glen A. Larson ("Battlestar Galactica") originally aired November 4, 1981 to May 2, 1986, starring actors Lee Majors, Douglas Barr and Heather Thomas :
"...'Colt Seavers', a Hollywood stunt man who moonlights as a bounty hunter, uses his physical skills and knowledge of stunt effects to capture fugitives and criminals, accompanied by his cousin and stuntman-in-training 'Howie Munson' and female stunt performer 'Jody Banks'..."
Typically, each episode would start with a voice-over introduction from Seavers explaining the precarious life of a Hollywood stuntman, how he is unable to make a full-time living from stunt work and forced to moonlight as a bounty hunter.

Word came down over the weekend that "The Paul Reiser Show," had been cancelled after only two episodes, due to poor reviews and dreadful ratings. It wasn't a huge surprise: It wasn't a very good show; NBC had very little faith in it (the network pushed back its premiere nearly a full television year); Paul Reiser is not exactly popular, having disappeared from television and film after the end of "Mad About You"; and the debut episode was the lowest-rated in-season comedy debut ever on NBC, scoring only 3.4 million viewers. (The time slot will be occupied by "The Office" reruns for the rest of the season).
Given the time and money put into a scripted series, it takes a particularly nasty brand of heinous to get yanked that quickly. But, two episodes is not the quickest a scripted television series has been pulled off the air. There are quite a few reality ("The Hasselhoffs,...

The 80s refuse to die, and The Los Angeles Times reports that The Fall Guy is the latest TV property from Reagan's America to be bandied about for a big screen update. I rather doubt Lee Majors will star as the unknown stuntman who makes Eastwood looks so fine, but I'm all for somebody discover the new Heather Thomas.
The film will come from producer Walter Parkes and DreamWorks, and a writer is expected to be hired soon. I'm going to go ahead and give this role to Matthew McConaughey. Don't know why; he's just the first guy I thought of, and it seems to fit to me. He looks like he could play a dude named Colt Seavers.

The 80's was filled with action packed TV shows. Today's TV is filled with a bunch of crime solving sourpusses. But back in the day we had shows like The Fall Guy filled with hot chicks in bikinis for absolutely no reason and tough guys who punched people in the face for even lesser reasons. One of those tough guys was Colt Seavers, a Hollywood stuntman who was also a bounty hunter. Think of him as a cooler Dog the Bounty Hunter, minus the racism. Colt always found himself in situations that required fists of fortitude and guts of steel. But us boys liked to watch the show for Heather Thomas, who always pranced around in a bikini. Now it looks as if there will be a big screen adaptation of The Fall Guy. Who could we get to replace Lee Majors? For those of you who don't remember Heather Thomas from The Fall Guy.

We've spent the better (hotter?) portion of the summer reviving our fascination with the concept of the Ultimate Hotties of the Year -- in subcategories like Comedy, Action/Thriller, Crime-Fighting, Geek, and Vampires (apparently they're popular). In 2007, readers voted Angelina Jolie and Wentworth Miller as prom king and queen; this year, Robert Pattinson led your Top 25. And since favoritism can be limiting, here are the 25 hotties you can't believe we missed. Now that '09's long, strange trip is over, some EW staffers decided -- in the spirit of "why the heck not?" -- to create our own lists of Things That Are Hot. Slezak and Mandi followed the rules and chose broadly but from within the parameters of the past year, while Dalton and Josh went the esoteric route of just naming random people and/or characters they've at one point found intriguing. Hey, whatever. They go around the...
