Naming high schools after actors isn’t anything new for animated series. Meg and Peter’s school in Family Guy has been named after both James Woods and Adam West over the course of the series’ run with both actors voicing themselves as characters as well. Where Prime Video’s Invincible differs, however, is by adding yet another layer to their version of this running joke.
The high school that Mark Grayson (Steven Yeun), William (Andrew Rannells), Eve (Gillian Jacobs), and Amber (Zazie Beetz) attend is named after the actor Reginald VelJohnson, who most people will likely recognize from Die Hard and the hit show Family Matters. VelJohnson also voices a character in Invincible, but instead of playing a direct version of himself, he voices the principal of the school named after him.
To add to this self-ception, the last name of VelJohnson’s principal is Winslow, which happens to...

Nothing gold can stay, and to make room for everything new at Hulu in November, we have to say goodbye to dozens of the series and movies on the platform. The streamer will make room for its upcoming Christmas library by losing some of its horror-themed titles throughout the month, including “Stephen King's It,” most of its “Saw” franchise, and “Shaun Of The Dead.” Other major titles leaving the platform include Emma Stone’s breakthrough comedy “Easy A,” the Nora Ephron classic “Sleeping in Seattle,” and more.

The Wolfen episode of The Black Sheep was Written and Narrated by Andrew Hatfield, Edited by Brandon Nally, Produced by Lance Vlcek and John Fallon, and Executive Produced by Berge Garabedian.
A black sheep doesn’t have to be considered bad to have that loving title and distinction. I mean, some of them are considered quite bad and need the layers peeled down to show off the good inside. There are other cases though. A movie can also be a black sheep if it was buried by a more popular outing like The Last Broadcast being utterly forgotten after the behemoth The Blair Witch Project made its appearance. Sometimes, like Last Broadcast, it can just be buried withing its own genre, decade, year, or as in today’s title, all 3. I’ve seen more than a few comments for this one so let’s take a look at werewolves in 1981. No,...

Alan Rickman’s iconic role as Hans Gruber in Die Hard ultimately catapulted him into Hollywood stardom. Believe it or not, Sam Neill played an unintentional but pivotal part in this chapter of cinematic history.
From initial rejections to last-minute decisions, there is a fascinating backstory of Rickman’s feature film debut. Here’s why Rickman owes Neill for the part that launched him into the spotlight.
Alan Rickman owes Sam Neill for his part in ‘Die Hard’
The creative team behind Die Hard initially wanted a big-name actor to play the main villain, Hans Gruber, in the action-packed blockbuster. After all, they had already secured Bruce Willis to play the main protagonist, John McClane.
Initially, producers contacted Sam Neill, a New Zealand actor with an expansive filmography. Neill was their ideal choice for the role of Gruber, but things didn’t turn out as planned.

Next episode? Don’t mind if I do.
The pleasure of rewatching a TV show is in shedding the responsibility of choice and submitting to the lazy river of an old favorite. Bob along its waters, allowing the current to pull you through the awkward early episodes, scandalous cast departures, writers’ strike half-season, all the way to the end – and then, why not? Start all over again. No pressure to choose. No burden of achievement. Just familiarity and comfort. Bob. Bob. Bob.
Until! An episode on the horizon threatens to interrupt your flow. If you just let it happen, you’d be pulled out of your reverie for a full 22 or – worse – 48 minutes. Perhaps it’s bad, or uncomfortable, or has unpleasant associations, or simply makes you feel too much. Either way, you skip it every time. Here are our writers’ nominations.
Brooklyn Nine-Nine season five, episode 19, “Bachelor/ette Party”
I love Brooklyn 99.

Prime Video has finally revealed the trailer and release date for its highly-anticipated second season of Invincible, the adult animated superhero series starring Steven Yeun, Sandra Oh, and J.K. Simmons, during the series’ San Diego Comic-Con panel. In the footage above, the trailer starts with Principle B.N. Winslow (Reginald VelJohnson) at Mark Grayson’s (Yeun’s Invincible) high school saying, “for some of you, it probably seems like this day would never come,” he says teasing the class of graduates before him, as well as the audience. Before long, the footage shifts into showcasing all the adversaries he will come up against this season. We also see a tease of some of the big names coming in to lend their voices this season, including longtime Optimus Prime (of Transformers fame) actor Peter Cullen and Mark Hamill. Before the teaser ends, Omni Man (Simmons), Invincible’s father and central protagonist,...

Die Hard is an unquestioned action masterpiece. Thanks to revelatory performances by both Bruce Willis and Alan Rickman, plus John McTiernan’s assured direction, Die Hard still has the power to awe and entertain even decades after its release. Few can say the same about the sequels, but what about the Die Hard prequel, The Detective?
Oh, you’ve never heard of a Die Hard prequel? Well, that could be because the 1968 Frank Sinatra vehicle The Detective is based on the 1966 novel by the same name, written by Roderick Thorp. And in 1979, Thorp published a sequel to The Detective called Nothing Lasts Forever, in which criminals led by a man called Gruber take control of a Los Angeles high-rise during a company party. Gruber even holds hostage the family member of a hero cop who must go rogue upstairs if he is going to thwart the terrorists. Also it’s Christmas time.

On the NBC comedy Cheers, George Wendt often stole the show as Norm. Norm was Cheers’ most loyal regular. Every episode when he entered the whole bar shouted his name, and he had a different one liner for every entrance. Cheers ended in 1993 after 11 seasons and Wendt has been busy ever since.

Much has been made of "Die Hard" and its enduring charm as not just a quintessential '80s blockbuster but one of the finest action movies ever made. There's a lot to love about the 1988 mega-hit that propelled Bruce Willis from TV comedy to action movie fame. Just as memorable as Willis' lovable everyman cop is Alan Rickman's Hans Gruber, the film's antagonist (or protagonist if you ask the film's writer) and mastermind of the siege on Nakatomi Tower.
Rickman began his career in the theater, having studied at the Royal Academy of Dramatic Art and making a real name for himself on the theater circuit. When it came time to make the leap to movies, he was initially hesitant to accept his now legendary "Die Hard" role. Once the actor eventually came onboard, he approached the job with the same dedication he had applied to his theater career,...

As we approach December, it's time to revisit that age-old, immortal question: Is "Die Hard" a Christmas film? Some people fervently support the theory, others find it ridiculous, and the rest couldn't care less. This debate has been going on for years now and it seems it's never going to end, so we might as well embrace it as part of mass culture. Now that that's out of the way, let's move forward with this newfound attitude of acceptance, and discuss this debate yet again.
The "Is it a Christmas movie" discourse has expanded far past the general population and has become a hot topic among the film's stars. And they are just as divided on the subject as the rest of the world. "Now, please, listen very carefully," Bruce Willis told audience members at his 2018 Comedy Central Roast, "'Die Hard' is not a Christmas movie! It's a g*ddamn Bruce Willis movie.

Movies with some supernatural element are always a treat, and Ghosts of Christmas Always plays like a modern-day version of A Christmas Carol.
Kim Matula stars as Katherine, a Ghost of Christmas Present, and she and the ghosts of Christmas Past (Lori Tan Chinn) and Christmas Future (Reginald VelJohnson) are tasked with helping Peter (Ian Harding) rediscover his Christmas spirit.
But this case isn't like all the others, and Katherine has to work extra hard trying to figure out why.

Tom Hanks may not physically be in Disney+'s Turner & Hooch, but his legacy is definitely present. In this exclusive clip from Sept. 1's all-new episode, Scott (Josh Peck), Brooke (Becca Tobin) and Hooch take in a local fair. Before long, they run into Scott's sister Laura (Lyndsy Fonseca), who is enjoying the ring-tossing booth alongside Mayor David Sutton (Reginald VelJohnson). This name may sound familiar to fans of the original 1989 film, as David Sutton was a former partner of Det. Scott Turner Sr., who was famously played by Oscar winner Hanks. And, in typical Turner & Hooch fashion, the exclusive clip makes reference to this special connection. "Call me...

In 1989, just months after he earned his first Oscar nomination for Big, and a few years before he went on a run of critical and commercial success that’s nearly unrivaled in the history of cinema, Tom Hanks starred in a series of middling movies that never would’ve suggested the megastar he’d become. One of these was Turner & Hooch, which starred Hanks as fastidious small-town cop Scott Turner, whose life is upended when he takes in a big, messy French mastiff named Hooch. It was a modest success,...

"Everything I cared about in life started with a dog." Disney+ has revealed the first official trailer for the new Turner & Hooch update, a streaming series arriving on Disney+ in July. Based on the original 1989 comedy classic with Tom Hanks, this Turner & Hooch series also acts a sequel, continuing the story with Josh Peck as Scott Turner, son of (the original) Det. Scott Turner. A young detective for the US Marshals solves crimes with the help of an oversized French Mastiff pooch. Turner & Hooch is a fun Disney+ series produced by 20th Television. Matt Nix is creator, executive producer and writer on the series. McG is an executive producer and directed the series premiere. This also stars Lyndsy Fonseca, Vanessa Lengies, Brandon Jay McLaren, Jeremy Macguire, Anthony Ruivivar, Reginald VelJohnson, and Becca Tobin. This copies almost everything from the original film, which doesn't make it that refreshing,...

2020 sucked, but at least we had the ’90s sitcom “Family Matters.”
The former T.G.I.F. sitcom, which aired on ABC from 1989-1998, saw a massive uptick in minutes watched last year, according to a Nielsen study. All told, “Family Matters,” was watched for nearly 11.4 billion minutes, up a whopping 392% from 2019’s tally of 2.3 billion minutes.
Yes, we did that. (Shoutout to you Urkel fans.)
That viewership, like all in this story, includes everyone age 2 or older — a giant demo generally referred to as “total viewers.”
“Family Matters,” which features an all-Black cast, follows the Winslow family as they deal with various misadventures, many of them caused by their pesky next-door neighbor, ultra-nerd Steve Urkel (Jaleel White).
The show also starred Reginald VelJohnson, Kellie Shanygne Williams, Darius McCrary, Jo Marie Payton and Rosetta LeNoire. “Family Matters” ran for 215 episodes. More episodes means more opportunity for racking up big viewership minutes.

Exclusive: New Turner, new Hooch, same David Sutton. Reginald VelJohnson, who co-starred in the 1989 film Turner & Hooch, will reprise his role as David Sutton — now a mayor — on the upcoming Turner & Hooch sequel series for Disney+.
On the show, from Burn Notice creator Matt Nix, when an ambitious, buttoned-up US Marshal (Josh Peck) inherits a big unruly dog, he soon realizes the dog he didn’t want may be the partner he needs. Turner & Hooch stars Peck as Scott Turner, son of Detective Scott Turner portrayed by Tom Hanks in the 1989 film.
VelJohnson will recur on the series as Mayor David Sutton. Oddly enough Reginald VelJohnson‘s bio states that he retired in 2016, and yet there are still credits extending into 2020, which kind of indicates that someone jumped the gun on stating that he’s retired or he didn’t feel that retirement suited him that well. However it happened, it’s easy to think that stepping away from the business and the lifestyle might not have been as easy as he wanted it to be since he’s been around for a good amount of time and he’s created a few different images, two in particular that I’ll talk about, that a lot of

Even at three hours long, Avengers: Endgame still didn’t have the chance to give every major member of the cast something important to do, which is to be expected when the conclusion to the Infinity Saga had rounded up perhaps the most star-studded ensemble ever gathered on the big screen. It was smart storytelling on the filmmakers’ part to use the Snap in order to focus the majority of the plot on the original lineup of Earth’s Mightiest Heroes, because if the entire roster had been around then the movie would have lost an awful lot of focus.

Disney Plus has ordered an hour-long series based on the Tom Hanks Disney comedy film “Turner & Hooch,” Variety has learned.
It was originally reported the show was in development in December. Josh Peck will star in the series as Scott Turner, described as an ambitious, buttoned-up U.S. Marshall who inherits a big unruly dog. He soon realizes the pet he didn’t want may be the partner he needs. The series has received a 12-episode order. Matt Nix is writing and executive producing the series, with Josh Levy co-executive producing.
“Turner & Hooch” was first released in 1989. Along with Hanks, the cast also included Mare Winningham, Craig T. Nelson, and Reginald VelJohnson. Roger Spottiswoode directed. It went on to gross over $70 million at the box office on a reported budget of $13 million.
Peck first broke out as one of the two stars of the Nickelodeon series “Drake & Josh.

A “Turner & Hooch” television series is in the works at streaming service Disney Plus, bringing back to life the 1989 Tom Hanks buddy comedy that pairs a detective with a dog as they set out to solve crime.
Matt Nix, known for “The Gifted” and “Burn Notice,” is attached to write and executive produce the Disney Plus series. Nix has an overall deal with 20th Century Fox TV, the studio behind this TV re-imagination.
It is not yet clear how faithful the adaptation will be to the original film. Directed by Roger Spottiswoode, the late ’80s story centered on Scott Turner, a “compulsively neat” detective whose “tidy world goes to the dogs when he’s forced to team up with a drooling slob of a junkyard dog named Hooch.” The original starred Hanks, Mare Winningham, Reginald VelJohnson, Scott Paulin, J.C. Quinn and Craig Nelson, and is currently available on Disney Plus.

Many of you know by now that the cut scene from Avengers: Endgame that was added to the rereleased cut in theaters last weekend showed a fire chief played by Reginald VelJohnson and his crew witnessing Endgame’s smart Hulk rescuing a building full of people from a fire by scooping them up in a satellite dish and delivering them to safety.
This is when fans realize that Bruce Banner has occupied the body of the Hulk as he explains to the firefighters the best way to scientifically extinguish the fire. The cut scene ends with the Hulk answering a tablet like a phone, then cuts to him at the restaurant with Steve, Scott and Natasha, which is where we pick up in the final cut of the film.
This actually sounds like a really fun and cool scene to see, but with an over three hour film, you have to make cuts somewhere.

In a clear attempt to beat Avatar’s box office record, Avengers: Endgame is back in theaters (not that it ever left) with about six minutes of extra content. And if you’re still on the fence about whether or not the re-release is worth another trip to the cinema, then the following breakdown of all the fresh material might help you make up your mind.
First of all, the film now opens with an introduction from co-director Anthony Russo, who welcomes viewers and asks them to stick around past the credits. Three hours later, assuming you followed Russo’s advice, you’ll see a post-credits tribute to the late Stan Lee, featuring footage from old interviews.
After that comes a deleted Endgame scene, which was most likely meant as an introduction for Professor Hulk. The sequence shows Bruce Banner in his new form rescuing civilians from a burning building.

If there’s one thing clear, it’s that Marvel is not content with letting Avengers: Endgame settle for second place when it comes to box office totals. To date, the latest McU film has pulled in over $2.75 billion, which means it’s roughly $36 million away from dethroning the current reigning king, James Cameron’s Avatar, which has held the world record for the highest-grossing movie of all time for nearly a decade. To be fair, that figure doesn’t take into account things like inflation and the relative cost of ticket prices over the past 100 years or so, but that’s a conversation for another article.
Unfortunately, it seems some have taken issue with Marvel’s brand new re-release of the film, which hit theaters yesterday. This cut features a tribute to Stan Lee, a message from co-director Anthony Russo, a brief preview for Spider-Man: Far From Home, and...

Here comes Santa Hans, here comes Santa Hans, right toward Santa McClane! With serious apologies to Gene Autry, we check in on what some call the Ultimate Christmas Movie, Die Hard, which is celebrating 30 years of spreading holiday cheer, and spatter.
Now Fox has gone and done a holiday-themed recut of the trailer for the film that made movie stars of Bruce Willis and Alan Rickman — the former as the anything-goes cop who foils a Christmas Eve heist by the latter and his evil minions. Check it out above.
It’s a promo for a new “Christmas Edition” Blu-ray and digital release for the film that continues to stir debate about whether it’s realy a “Christmas movie.” You’re worried about politics or religion being discussed at your family’s dinner table this year? Humbug! Just beware of Grandpa challenging Uncle Fred on whether John McTiernan’s action classic...

Die Hard (1988) is one of the best and most iconic action films from Hollywood. Bruce Willis starred as NYPD Officer John McClane, who tries to save his wife Holly (Bonnie Bedelia) and several of her co-workers and friends after being taken hostage by German terrorist Hans Gruber (Alan Rickman )and his henchmen during a Christmas party at the Nakatomi Plaza in Los Angeles.
Willis’ witty and deadpan delivery personality, coupled with his never-say-die attitude and relentless attacks on the villains made him a force to be reckoned with, giving us a tough yet comedic performance. Most of Die Hard takes place inside the Nakatomi Plaza, where you will find all the heart-pounding action as...

Lifetime has greenlighted a pair of original movies based on popular novels written nearly two centuries apart. The cable net said today that Pride and Prejudice: Atlanta, a contemporary take on Jane Austen’s early 19th century classic, and an adaptation of Adriana Trigiant’s 2009 book Very Valentine will premiere next year.
Pride and Prejudice: Atlanta features an African-American cast led by Reginald VelJohnson as Reverend Bennet, a pastor of a prominent Southern Baptist church, and his wife, Mrs. Bennet (Jackée Harry), author of a self-help book on how to find the perfect husband. Needless to say, Mrs. Bennet is less than thrilled that all five of their daughters — Lizzie (Tiffany Hines), Jane (Raney Branch), Mary (Brittney Level), Lydia (Reginae Carter) and Kitty (Alexia Bailey) — are still single. When the very eligible Will Darcy (Juan Antonio) arrives in town, Mrs. Bennet sets her sights on the handsome bachelor for daughter Lizzie,...
