Josh Boone's production company Mid-World Productions has reportedly optioned two of Caitlín R. Kiernan's best-known works "The Red Tree" and "The Drowning Girl" according to Grey Girl Beast.
'Girl' follows a schizophrenic young woman after she discovers another woman in the middle of the road, and she begins an obsessive hunt to discover her past. 'Tree' follows a woman who leaves the south for Rhode Island and discovers a manuscript from a former tenant which harbors long-forgotten revelations.
"The Fault In Our Stars" director Boone will write the screenplay for 'Girl' while Kiernan herself will pen the 'Tree' adaptation. Judy Cairo will produce. How this will fit in with Boone's commitments to "The Stand" and "The Vampire Chronicles" adaptations is unknown.

Kevin Costner came into the Toronto International Film Festival on Saturday for the world premiere of his powerful new drama, Black And White, a stirring story dealing with our racial divide, but mostly a riveting human tale from writer/director Mike Binder. It’s unflinchingly honest and contains a crackerjack courtroom scene that’s priceless. In that scene, Costner delivers perhaps the best performance of his career, or at least since the period of his career circa Field Of Dreams. It played to a packed house yesterday at Roy Thomson Hall and won a strong ovation from the crowd.
Costner told me that even the though the hard-hitting film is not a comedy, the audience responded with laughs in just the right places and really seemed to be moved by what they saw on screen.

Writers stars Greg Kinnear as a successful author whose family — and casual hook-up Kristen Bell — is plagued by unresolved feelings towards his ex-wife, played by Jennifer Connelly. Lily Collins appears as the one of their two children (alongside Nat Wolff), who is determined not to follow in her parents’ doomed footprints when she becomes romantically involved with Logan Lerman’s classmate, Lou.
The main players appear in the latest images, included below, while The Playlist also sat down with Boone to discuss the film’s production…

[1] It was just a few days ago that Demi Moore dropped out [2] of the porn biopic Lovelace after being hospitalized for "exhaustion," but it looks like filmmakers Rob Epstein and Jeffrey Friedman may be close to finding their replacement already. Us Weekly [3] reports that Weeds star Mary Louise Parker is being considered as a possibility to step in for Moore, who was previously set for a small part as feminist icon Gloria Steinem. If the report proves true -- and if Parker accepts -- she'll be joining a sprawling cast that includes Peter Sarsgaard, Hank Azaria, Adam Brody, Bobby Cannavale, Chris Noth, Sharon Stone, Juno Temple, Debi Mazar, Wes Bentley, Romeo Brown, Robert Patrick, Eric Roberts, and Chloë Sevigny, with Amanda Seyfried starring as Deep Throat star Linda Lovelace. Shooting on the project is currently underway in Los Angeles, though no release date has been announced at this time. Parker...

It’s reported by Variety that Greg Kinnear and Jennifer Connelly are both circling Writers, a film that relative unknown Josh Boone is looking to make his feature debut. Writers is written (ha. ha. ha.) by the helmer, and is summed up as “a funny and touching tale of a fractured family trying to rediscover one another over the course of a tumultuous year.” Among said family are a “successful novelist (Kinnear), his ex-wife (Connelly), collegiate daughter and teenage son.” This would mark a reunion for the two, who previously starred together (as a married couple, no less) in last year’s Salvation Boulevard.

Maggie Gyllenhaal and Hugh Dancy will star alongside Jonathan Pryce and Rupert Everett in Hysteria.
The project sound quite interesting. Who would say No to a Victorian-era romantic comedy about the invention of the vibrator?
Hysteria will be directed by Tanya Wexler from the screenplay written by Stephen Dyer and Jonah Lisa Dyer.
At this moment we know that the movie will follow “the pair’s fling against the backdrop of the invention of the vibrator, apparently created by a doctor who used it to treat hysteria in women.”
Jonathan Pryce will play a physician, who is also Gyllenhaal’s character’s father; Dancy plays another medic, who, along with a colleague played by Rupert Everett, stumbles upon the discovery.
As for Gyllenhaal’s character, she already gave us a little insight:
“I play a firecracker whose father is a doctor who is in the business of curing hysterical women.

Variety confirms that Maggie Gyllenhaal has joined the project and breaks the news that Hugh Dancy will be ready for the October shoot of Hysteria, the true story about the invention of the first vibrator set in Victorian England to be directed by Tanya Wexler. Gyllenhaal would be replacing the once attached Sally Hawkins and seeing that this will play as a comedy, my thinking is we can expect something in the tone of a Calender Girls and Kinsey, so I don't imagine her having to put a brave face a la Secretary or Sherrybaby for the role. Synopsis: Scripted by Stephen Dyer and Jonah Lisa Dyer, this is set in Victorian England, 1880. Mortimer Granville (Hugh Dancy), a young doctor sick of his colleagues' medieval practices, starts working for Dr Dalrymple (Jonathan Pryce), who treats women's "hysteria" by offering them intimate manual relief...
