Depending on whom you ask, Don Lemon is planting his feet firmly in media’s next frontier. Or its last one.
The former CNN star anchor is the latest in a parade of onetime TV-news personnel to dip their toes into the entrepreneurial waters of digital and social media. He announced in early January that he would launch “The Don Lemon Show” on X, part of a bid to build a broader media outlet. “Don is extremely passionate about launching his own media company,” says Oren Rosenbaum, partner and head of audio at UTA, which represented Lemon in his deal with the social-media giant. “His first priority is the show, and as that becomes more and more successful, he will build a business around that and become a platform for other voices.”
Lemon isn’t alone. Tucker Carlson, the former Fox News opinion host, is using X for similar goals.

Cullen Bunn Returns to the Deepest Catacombs: "In 2020, author Cullen Bunn released The Deepest Catacombs, a serialized comic inspired by vintage advertisements for the Dungeons And Dragons role-playing game. The story, told in 25 single-page installments, featured a different artist on every page. It was released for free for fans of comics, fantasy, and role-playing games. Now, Bunn is returning to the world of The Deepest Catacombs with an all-new 22-page comic that will be released in a serialized format.
“When I finished releasing the initial run of The Deepest Catacombs,” says Bunn, “I knew I would return to that world. I just loved the characters and the nostalgia, the magic and the monsters. And I loved working with so many talented artists! This was, of course, a labor of love, so it has taken me a bit of time to get the ball rolling again, but the story is...

20th Century Fox's Studios' third "X-Men" film changed a lot due to the departure of director Bryan Singer, who was replaced by Brett Ratner (the franchise trading one accused sex offender for another).
Part of Singer's unrealized plans for this trilogy capper, ultimately subtitled "The Last Stand," was to introduce a famous comic character played by an A-List star. Screenwriter Dan Harris, who left the project to work on "Superman Returns" with Singer, revealed back in 2004:
"We were going to do 'X-Men 3' for a little while and our big secret or coup was -- and it's not going to happen so it's Ok -- we wanted to have a character that was Emma Frost, a famous 'X-Men' character. She's called the White Queen. We were going to ask Sigourney [Weaver] to be it. She was an empath in our version of the movie, which means she could control people's emotions.

This sequel to Godzilla is directed by Michael Dougherty and stars Millie Bobby Brown, Kyle Chandler and Vera Farmiga.
Well, another installment of Godzilla and don’t worry, I’m going to make jokes because this movie seems to be made for that. Thanks to the writers and whatever they have drunk.
Premise
Well, Godzilla is out there wandering around because the Earth is now hollow and home to monsters. Some of them are the titans and Godzilla is out there also. It’s like every monster wants to try their strength and, as you expected, there is always a terrorist (this time they are ecological terrorists) ready to create chaos.
Godzilla: King of the Monsters (2019) The Movie
The first dialogue made me fall to the ground. One of the characters makes a question about the terrorists who are going to resurrect another beast, as if it was an everyday issue.

ABC News has found the next co-anchor for the weekend edition of Good Morning America.
On Tuesday, ABC News president Kim Godwin told staff that Janai Norman will join the program effective immediately, working alongside anchors Whit Johnson and Eva Pilgrim.
“Janai is a versatile and talented journalist, whether she is anchoring at the desk, conducting a one-on-one interview with a newsmaker of the day or reporting in the field on breaking news,” Godwin wrote in her memo to staff. “She puts her heart into her work and makes it a priority to cover the most important underreported issues of our time, including the maternal mortality crisis facing Black women and the stigma of mental health.”
Norman effectively succeeds Dan Harris, who left the program last summer to focus on his meditation company.

ESPN is reporting that the NBA playoffs are back for China’s TV viewers after a long banishment over controversial political statements by an executive.
The ESPN story by Mark Fainaru-Wada and Steve Fainaru said the return is not being trumpeted by the league, which declined to directly address the return. Instead, it gave a spokesman’s statement extolling the NBA’s right to “inspire and connect people everywhere.’
The story noted the NBA owners collectively have more than 10 billion in asset exposure to China, as well as doing 5 billion of NBA business in the country. That presumably includes broadcast and internet rights, as well as merchandising and sponsorships.
Houston Rockets General Manager Daryl Morey angered the Chinese government by tweeting “First for Freedom. Stand with Hong Kong” during the uprising in that city.

“Jeopardy” executive producer Mike Richards will deliver a “special message” this evening at the top of the first “Jeopardy!” episode following Alex Trebek’s passing, a person with knowledge of the planned tribute told TheWrap.
“Today’s show features a special message on behalf of everyone in the ‘Jeopardy!’ family,” the official “Jeopardy!” Instagram account posted shortly after our exchange with the game show insider.
The Sony series is keeping the details on that message under wraps in an effort to increase tune-in for the Monday episode.
Trebek died Sunday following a long and public battle with pancreatic cancer. He was 80.
Thanks to batch-taping, Alex Trebek’s final “Jeopardy!” episode will air on ABC owned & operated stations on Christmas Day. He was last in studio on Oct. 29.
“This is an enormous loss for the ‘Jeopardy!’ staff, crew and all of Alex’s millions of fans,” Richards said in a statement on Sunday.

Following Alex Trebek’s death on Sunday at age 80, George Stephanopoulos’ rep is lobbying for the ABC News anchor to become the next host of the hit game show “Jeopardy!,” a highly placed person with knowledge of the situation told TheWrap. Stephanopoulos’s agent Alan Berger did not respond to TheWrap’s request for comment, but a knowledgeable individual close to the “Good Morning America” co-host denied that he was “actively” pursuing the role. However, the highly placed person told TheWrap that Stephanopoulos has his eye on the lucrative position and that his agent was lobbying hard at ABC, where he serves as ABC News’ chief anchor and political correspondent. ABC-owned TV stations have held the syndication rights to the game show for decades, but there are other stake holders who will have a say in choosing Trebek’s replacement: distributor CBS Television and producer Sony Television. A spokesperson for ABC News declined to comment.

When “Nightline” viewers tune in to the program later this evening, they are likely to see something they won’t expect: the show will have a new announcer, new topics, and even a new title.

Bryan Singer may already be widely associated with controversy regarding his on-set behavior and extracurricular “activities,” but a lengthy exposé published today by THR has shed more unseemly light on the array of accusations about him and the culture of abuse and negligence that the director purportedly perpetuated. One such detail centers on a breaking point reached by the X-Men cast.
According to the report, the cast of 2003’s X2: X-Men United had a consequential confrontation with Singer centered on his erratic, frequently-absent and narcotics-addled tenure over the sequel’s Vancouver production, which apparently resulted in the franchise’s breakout star, Wolverine actor Hugh Jackman, being injured in a stunt that should not have been shot that day. It seems as if the groundbreaking, $269 million global success of 2000’s original X-Men magnified Singer’s proclivities, which resulted in an unfortunate osmosis to members of the crew during the X2 shoot,...

An earnest, over-stuffed infomercial for the potential and benefits of practicing mindfulness, multi-hypenate Rob Beemer’s “The Mindfulness Movement” demonstrates the practice, offers an abbreviated history of its growth in the U.S., and cites examples of the therapeutic, scientific, corporate, academic and athletic benefits of living a more conscious life.
After kicking off with celebrity endorsements, the film clunkily interweaves the traumatic stories of people who found mindfulness to be a literal life saver with testimonies from those who incorporated it into their careers, used it to help prisoners, addicts, cancer survivors and at-risk youth, or who just wanted to share the feelings of calm that it brought them. Although the film doesn’t go that deep, given these strange times, it could benefit from the curiosity of the anxious and distracted who are seeking tools to cope with stress.

After launching an early-afternoon version of the A.M. mainstay in 2018, the Disney-owned network now plans to double the hours of the show’s Saturday broadcast. All told, the new two-hour broadcast – anchored by Dan Harris Eva Pilgrim, Whit Johnson and Rob Marciano – will reach 40% of the U.S, though ABC said more stations will air the show in months to come.
All of ABC’s owned-and-operated stations have committed to airing the expanded show by early 2020, after the end of the college football season, ABC News said. At present, the Saturday hour airs at different times in different markets, depending on the needs of local stations.

One of the biggest news bits out of Comic-Con 2019 day two is Deadline’s scoop that Brandon Routh will be playing Superman once again in an upcoming Arrowverse crossover on The CW. Routh currently stars on The CW comic book series “Legends of Tomorrow,” but he’ll be donning the Superman costume for a five-night event in December titled “Crisis on Infinite Earths.” Just how Routh’s Superman factors into the story remains a mystery, but the opportunity to step back into the role is not lost on Routh after playing the character only once in “Superman Returns.”
“It’s an opportunity for me to kind of say hello and goodbye to the character in a way I didn’t get to the first time,” Routh told Entertainment Weekly at Cinema-Con. “Being a young individual of 24, 25, I thought, ‘Oh, I’m going to do this for years and make multiple movies.

Each weekday at 2 p.m., Dan Abrams talks to America for an hour about the law, politics and media. He’s been working steadily to expand the conversation.
Abrams hosts an afternoon show on satellite-broadcaster SiriusXM, where he holds forth on the Mueller Report and other topics that cross over from the legal world to the one we live in every day. He’s often spotted on “Good Morning America,” owing to a chief legal analyst role he has with ABC News. He’s making the literary rounds as well, with a book about a crucial law case involving Theodore Roosevelt. He continues to run his company, Abrams Media, which publishes the media-news web site Mediaite, and is leading a project that its namesake calls “the big enchilada”: Law & Crime, a live trial network that delivers courtroom cases of great interest via broadband and other venues and counts A&e as an investor.

Our top story this morning: ABC News’ “20/20” has beaten NBC News’ “Dateline” in season-long ratings among adults 25-54 for the first time in four years.
ABC’s “20/20” also topped “Dateline” in total viewers for the first traditional September-May broadcast television season in three years. The ABC News program averaged 4.9 million total viewers, counting a week’s worth of delayed viewing, vs. the NBC News show’s 4.7 million viewers. That’s a difference of 200,000 total viewers per episode, or +4% in favor of “20/20.”
The two newsmagazine shows tied for the Nielsen season among adults 18-49, though 25-54 is considered the key demographic for news programing. Among adults 25-54, “20/20’s” 1.3 average rating was 8% above “Dateline’s” 1.2.

Dan Harris is stepping back as co-anchor of ABC News’ Nightline after nearly six years, the network said Tuesday. He will continue to report stories for the late-night newsmagazine as well as for other ABC News outlets, and will continue co-anchoring the weekend edition of Good Morning America.
Harris plans to devote more time to his growing 10% Happier business, stemming from a pair of bestselling books and a related app. He will continue to host his 10% Happier podcast.
ABC News President James Goldston told staff of the news Tuesday in a memo:

Dan Harris is stepping down from his post as anchor of ABC’s “Nightline” to focus on growing 10% Happier, a business based on his 2014 book of the same name.
“It is a high class problem: I simply have too many awesome things on my plate, between weekend ‘Gma,’ ‘Nightline,’ and the expanding 10% juggernaut,” Harris said in a memo to staff Tuesday. “So why, given all the options, did I decide to drop the ‘Nightline’ anchor gig? Because, frankly, you deserve an anchor who gives it his or her all. This team of amazing producers – who work all hours and travel all over the world – has the right to expect an on-air representative who is in the trenches with you day after day. And the circumstances of my life simply will not allow that right now.”

In his 2014 book, “10% Happier,” Dan Harris recounts a time when he stepped on to the set of ABC’s “Good Morning America” to do his anchor job there, and began suffering from an intense panic attack while on camera. In 2019, he seems much more confident.
Harris, who has been with ABC News since 2000 and one of the co-anchors of “Nightline” since 2013, will step back from his role at the late-night news program, citing a desire to tend to a growing business that has sprouted up around that book, which touts the benefits of meditation. Matt Bomer plays a weatherman in his new movie “Papi Chulo,” but he didn’t shadow TV meteorologists to prepare for the role.
What he was most concerned about was making sure the nervous breakdown his character has on live television was believable. To capture those emotions, he did a deep dive on the internet.
“I don’t want to say it’s there for your viewing pleasure because I’m not about laughing at the expense of others, but there are some documented breakdowns on camera that people have had,” Bomer explains. “There’s one, and he’s very open about this on so I feel okay sharing about this, [ABC News’] Dan Harris specifically had a nervous breakdown on camera. So I watched a lot of that.” (Harris chronicled the experience in his 2014 memoir “10% Happier.”)

Three of the broadcast networks — ABC, CBS and NBC — are ditching their primetime lineups tonight to offer live coverage of the midterm election.
This is kind of wall-to-wall coverage the networks usually reserve for the race for the White House. But the 2018 election cycle has attracted intense interest among voters and pundits who see the election as a referendum on Donald Trump’s presidency.
Democrats are hoping for a “blue wave” of angry voters to wash over the ballot boxes, and sweep the party into control of the House of Representatives. The Brett Kavanaugh’s Supreme Court confirmation hearings, and Trump’s recent attacks on the Central American migrants walking to the U.S. border, appear to have activated the Gop’s base.
All of that electoral drama is bound to boost viewership, and justifies pre-empting The Connors on ABC,...

“Nightline” is no longer being tailored solely for late-night newshounds.
The venerable ABC News show, which has its roots in the network’s end-of-day coverage of the 1979 Iran hostage crisis, is quietly branching out to new venues. On Monday evening, Freeform, the cable network that is, like ABC, part of Walt Disney Co., will show “For Our Lives: Parkland,” a “Nightline” documentary that follows the lives of several students in the aftermath of the shooting at Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School.
Executive producer Steven Baker feels there’s more “Nightline” can do. “’Nightline’ is more than just a time slot,” he says. “This is a brand that tells stories, no matter where it is seen.”
The hour long-special marks the first time “Nightline” and Freeform have partnered on a project. “Nightline” producers were able to embed themselves with some of the Parkland students, and not just at school events or demonstrations.

What seemed charmingly provocative onstage falls thuddingly flat in the film adaptation of Stephen Karam’s 2007 acclaimed off-Broadway play Speech & Debate. The playwright, who’s since gone on to win a Tony Award for The Humans, has here adapted his own work for the screen. But his cinematic inexperience, and the tonally awkward direction by Dan Harris (Imaginary Heroes), reduces the work to the level of a risqué Afterschool Special. The film’s stage origins, and a cameo appearance by Lin-Manuel Miranda, may be of interest to theater buffs, but everyone else will be left wondering what all the fuss was...

'X-Men: Apocalypse' with Oscar Isaac in the supervillainous title role. 'X-Men: Apocalypse' review: Step back for series, but latest 'X-Men' movie 'works well enough' There's a three-way brawl going on in the Marvel universe, but it doesn't involve Spider-Man, Captain America, or Deadpool. Instead, the combatants are the three major movie studios who've divvied up the film rights to Marvel characters in licensing deals, some of which go back decades. In this corner we have Sony, makers of a Spider-Man series that has sunk so low since 2004's Spider-Man 2 that they punted the character back to our second combatant, Marvel Studios. In 2004, after years of seeing the majors compromise their intellectual property by making horrible film adaptations, they decided to finance and produce their own damn movies, in what would develop into an unprecedented winning streak. To this day, just when you think they're finally out of gas, Marvel...

Did you know that the X-Men franchise is currently the longest running superhero franchise out there? Well, it is, which might surprise you. Though it didn’t get off the ground as early as the Batman or Superman franchises did, this one, which got going about 16 years ago, has managed to put out more product and sustain with the same creative team longer than any others. It’s to some degree a testament to quality, while also showing off how valuable a product it is. The latest in that assembly line? Why, none other than the sequel X-Men: Apocalypse, of course. Opening on Friday, this new outing for the mutant heroes looks to avoid the comic book movie fatigue that could be setting in this year, before the summer even starts, to boot. How is it? Well, read on to find out… This sequel, now I believe the eighth overall...

Directors’ trademarks is a series of articles that examines the “signatures” that filmmakers leave behind in their work. This month, we’re examining the trademark style and calling signs of Bryan Singer as director.
Bryan Singer studied film at the New York School of Visual Arts and USC School of Cinematic Arts. After graduating, one of his short films caught the eye of a production company who funded low budget films. He then wrote Public Access with childhood friend Christopher McQuarrie, which he then directed as his first feature film in 1993. Two years later, he had his breakthrough with The Usual Suspects, which caught the eyes of critics at the Cannes Film Festival before ultimately becoming profitable in theaters. Next, Singer adapted a Stephen King novel for the screen, directing Apt Pupil (1998). That film received mixed reviews and was not a financial success. Singer was then hired to direct X-Men...

After three initial X-Men films (2 Bryan Singer/1 Brett Ratner), some Wolverine origin stories, a rebooted X-Men: First Class, and a continuity-obliterating X-Men: Days Of Future Past, X-Men: Apocalypse represents a “fresh” restarting point for Fox’s iconic franchise. The mistakes of old have been erased (*cough* Brett Ratner *cough*) and Charles Xavier’s team has been redefined (Mystique is good? Angel is bad?), yet, while necessary, all the re-reveals and re-introductions have lost their initial allure. Once again we’re shown an X-Men story where Magneto embraces darkness and it’s up to his mutant friends to talk him off the proverbial ledge (sounds awful familiar). Singer is undoubtably working towards a better cinematic X-Men universe (one decade at a time) here, but you’ll end up feeling like we’ve seen this all before – because, to a certain degree, we have.

After Oscar Isaac helped save the galaxy in Star Wars: The Force Awakens last year, this summer he's going to try to destroy the world as the big bad guy in X-Men: Apocalypse.
