HBO’s Succession became the network’s new Game of Thrones: the same political schemes and backstabbing of the people rich and powerful beyond others’ imagination, but set in modern-day New York instead of medieval Westeros.
But everyone wants a piece of that high-stakes big-money success, so Netflix has been working hard to create its own Succession. From what we see, they’ve succeeded!
A Man in Full Breaks the Wheel
Most TV shows about the rich and powerful in the United States are set in New York; it’s something of a law at this point. But Netflix breaks the everlasting cycle of aerial Manhattan shots in its upcoming limited series A Man in Full: unlike Succession and other like-minded shows, it will take us to Atlanta, Georgia. Surprising, isn’t it?

It’s season finale time for networks, but Netflix, naturally, still has plenty of brand new TV and shows coming in May.
Jeff Daniels makes his TV return in the David E. Kelley series “A Man in Full.” That six-episode series is based on the bestselling book of the same name by Tom Wolfe. Per a press release: “When Atlanta real estate mogul Charlie Croker faces sudden bankruptcy, political and business interests collide as Charlie defends his empire from those attempting to capitalize on his fall from grace.” The series will also star Tom Pelphrey, Diane Lane, Lucy Liu, William Jackson Harper, Aml Ameen, Sarah Jones, Jon Michael Hill and Chanté Adams.
Additionally, comedy fans can get excited for a new special series from John Mulaney. The comedian is hosting a multi-night event, “John Mulaney Presents: Everybody’s in LA,” that looks to be part interview show and part man-on-the-street hijinks.

What happens when a powerful man faces the prospect of losing his power? A total shitshow.
In Netflix’s “A Man in Full,” Jeff Daniels plays real estate tycoon Charlie Croker, whose power is threatened by a sudden bankruptcy, conflicts of interest, and people relishing his fall from every corner. For a man who had it all, things are about to get significantly more treacherous. The trailer evokes the petty politics and animosity of HBO’s “Succession,” which has been away for almost a year and whose fans will surely be seeking this exact strain of comfort (“We got off your medical records. Turns out you’re a pussy”).
The six-episode limited series comes from writer, executive producer, and showrunner David E. Kelley and is based on the bestselling novel by Tom Wolfe. Regina King, Matthew Tinker, Thomas C Wolfe, Alexandra Wolfe, and Tommy Schlamme also executive produce, with King...

“When you die, will people notice,” Charlie Croker (Jeff Daniels) asks in Netflix‘s teaser trailer for the upcoming limited series A Man in Full. When Atlanta real estate mogul Charlie Croker faces sudden bankruptcy, political and business interests collide as Charlie defends his empire from those attempting to capitalize on his fall from grace.

Griffin Dunne and Rosanna Arquette’s night of farce and coincidence is a tale in which strangeness and anxiety loom large, leading to a woozy punchline
Martin Scorsese’s 1985 screwball noir is now on rerelease. It felt at the time – and feels now – like an atypical Scorsese movie, a more generic and less auteurist project he accepted from its producer-star Griffin Dunne while progress on his Last Temptation of Christ had temporarily stalled. Maybe he thought of it as “road work”, but time has lent interest to After Hours; the obviously comic and farcical aspect has receded and its strangeness and anxiety loom larger, in a string of unsexy encounters and chilling coincidences culminating in a desolate close-dance scene to the accompaniment of Peggy Lee’s Is That All There Is? Five of the 10 best picture nominees were based on books, and three of those – “Oppenheimer,” “Poor Things” and “The Zone of Interest” – took home the most statues overall. Even the winner for best animated picture, Hayao Miyazaki’s “The Boy and the Heron,” was loosely inspired by a 1937 novel Miyazaki had read as a child.

Exclusive: After circling rights for weeks to the buzzy Vanity Fair article “True Crime, True Faith: The Serial Killer and the Texas Mom Who Stopped Him,” Amazon MGM Studios has locked them down, Deadline understands.
Executive producer and production attachments on True Crime, True Faith are premature and cannot be confirmed at this time.
While certain buyers had been looking at developing the piece for film, it seems that the Amazon adaptation will be a series. Details have yet to emerge about creatives involved behind the camera, and of course, discussions on casting have not started given the ongoing SAG-AFTRA strike.
Published by Julie Miller on August 9, the Vanity Fair article tells for the first time the full story of Margy Palm, a religious Texas mother who was abducted by serial killer Stephen Morin outside of a Kmart while shopping for Christmas gifts on December 11, 1981. Palm spent eight hours...

The legendary test pilot Chuck Yeager took Philip Kaufman, the writer/director of the lauded 1983 space race epic “The Right Stuff,” for a ride in his plane during production. And at one point the man who broke the sound barrier in 1947 turned over the controls to Kaufman as he also turned off the engine. “He thought it would scare me being one of the ‘Hollywood’ guys,” Kaufman told me in a 2003 L.A. Times interview. “I just sort of looked at him and smiled, because I knew there was something blessed about this man. The funny thing about Yeager is that he would drive out to the sets, particularly in the high desert, and he would not go above the speed limit. He was the fastest man alive, but he wouldn’t go over 55 because he knew how dangerous it was on the highway”

It’s been four years since Patrick J. Adams suited up — get it? — as Mike Ross on the USA legal drama Suits. Since then the Canadian native’s continued acting, portraying everything from an astronaut and preacher to, yes, a lawyer. Ahead, check out what Adams has been in since Suits ended in 2019.
‘The Right Stuff’ marked Patrick J. Adams’s first project after ‘Suits’
From lawyer to astronaut, Adams took a step back in time with the 2020’s The Right Stuff. The Disney+ adaptation based on Tom Wolfe’s bestselling book of the same name followed Adams as John Glenn and the rest of the original Mercury 7.
The period drama ran for one season on Disney+ before being canceled and reportedly shopped to other networks (via Deadline). All eight episodes are available to stream on Disney+.

Only Super Bowl weekend had a lower total gross in 2023, with around $63 million for this weekend. But even on a weekend when no film grossed over $15 million, it matters to studios who gets the bragging rights that come with taking the top spot.
Warner Bros. sent its estimate of $14.7 million for the second weekend of “The Nun II.” Disney had just before claimed $14.5 million for “A Haunting in Venice,” the latest Kenneth Branagh as Hercule Poirot Agatha Christie film.
This includes guesses for Sunday. The general consensus among rivals is that both figures are too high, but “The Nun II” is better positioned to prevail in a race that might even be closer than it seems. But we really won’t know until Sunday’s actual results are known.
If “The Nun II” did reach $14.7 million, it came with a slightly-better-than-usual drop of only 55 percent for a horror sequel (even...

Of all the stories and sides of Leonard Bernstein that Bradley Cooper decided to leave out of “Maestro,” the most infamous is surely the “Radical Chic” episode. In 1970, a New York magazine cover story, written by Tom Wolfe and entitled “Radical Chic: That Party at Lenny’s,” spent 20,000 words describing, in delectable you-are-there detail, a party thrown by Lenny and his wife, Felicia, at their Park Avenue apartment to raise funds for the Black Panthers. Several of the Panthers were there, mingling with the swells of aristocratic liberal New York, and Wolfe captured the contradictions of that evening in a tone of such scathing perception that it was as if he’d defined the concept of bourgeois political correctness, disemboweled it, and danced on its grave, all in the same moment.

You wouldn’t want a documentary about Tom Wolfe to mimic his style. That could be challenging not to mention possibly embarrassing. But it would have been gratifying to see Richard Dewey’s ‘Radical Wolfe’ documentary show a dash of its subject’s moxie, damn-the-torpedoes bravery, and cynicism-stung wit.

Roger Ebert said one of Elvis Presley’s movies was “pleasant, kind, polite, sweet, and noble.” Ebert still criticized the movie. The movie produced a pair of hit singles in the United States but it’s forgotten today.
For the most part, Elvis Presley‘s movies have such a bad reputation that they’re almost an instant punchline. Roger Ebert said one of the King of Rock ‘n’ Roll‘s films did a terrible job capturing the late 1960s. Regardless, the movie still produced a hit soundtrack.

Much ink has been spilled — or rather, tweets fired off — over Bradley Cooper’s prosthetic nose in his Leonard Bernstein biopic. Because Cooper is not a Jew himself, dissenters opined, accentuating his schnoz was an act of crude caricature. Of ethnic derision. The word “Jewface” trended online for an entire day, a development far more troubling and ignorant than a bit of movie makeup, suggesting that hordes of people believe Jews are a monolith possessed of defining facial attributes, and that said characteristics are aberrant. Never mind that the legendary...

"It's not – having or not having compassion, my role is to discover. The truth is always revolutionary." Yep. Kino Lorber has revealed an official trailer for a documentary film titled Radical Wolfe, a compelling profile of the iconic writer / journalist Tom Wolfe. It will be opening in select theaters first in September, in art house cinemas this fall. This looks like a very smart doc! From a beat reporter at the Washington Post, to the leader of the New Journalism movement, Tom was at the forefront of reshaping how American stories are told. Throughout his career, he fused a conservative upbringing in Virginia with a cultural antenna from Yale's American Studies PhD program to write some of the most culturally impactful stories of the 20th century: The Right Stuff, The Bonfire of the Vanities, and A Man in Full. Jeff Daniels is ready to tell his story. The actor, who has been in everything from “The Purple Rose of Cairo” to “Dumb and Dumber,” is readying his audio-only memoir, “Alive and Well Enough,” as a 12-part series for Audible, with the first season debuting in September (with a second season on the way).
According to the official release “Alive and Well Enough” “mixes storytelling, original music and performance, [and] is like nothing you have heard before.” Would it be too much to ask for several chapters devoted to the making of “Arachnophobia?”
“Audible is the only place where I get to do everything I do,” said Daniels in an official statement. “’Alive and Well Enough’ is an audio adventure of an accidental artist who one day looked up and realized he had a sense of humor, a passion for writing and stories to tell.”

“Radical Wolfe,” the first documentary about American author and journalism pioneer Tom Wolfe, will open at the IFC Center in New York on Sept. 15 and the Laemmle Royal in Los Angeles on Sept. 22. Kino Lorber, which acquired the film in April, also announced a nationwide expansion set after the platform debut.
“Radical Wolfe,” based on a Vanity Fair article by Michael Lewis, chronicles Wolfe’s career from a beat reporter at the Washington Post to his becoming a leader in the “New Journalism” movement. Featuring readings from Jon Hamm, the picture details how Wolfe helped reshape how American stories were told, including recognizing the importance of overlooked subcultures and communities. This meant everything from rural stock car drivers to hippies in Haight Ashbury to the Apollo Astronauts.
The film is directed by Richard Dewey (“Burden”) and executive produced by David Light and Nathan Epstein and co-produced by Andy Fortenbacher. The...

Elizabeth Olsen is yet again trapped in a seemingly idyllic but actually quite sinister suburban setting in “Love & Death,” the new based-on-a-true-story series from David E. Kelley co-starring Jesse Plemons. And it looks juicy (watch the trailer above).
The official synopsis for “Love & Death” describes the new HBO Max original series as “the true story of Candy and Pat Montgomery and Betty and Allan Gore – two churchgoing couples enjoying their smalltown Texas life… until an extramarital affair leads somebody to pick up an axe.” Judging by the shots of a blood-splattered Olsen walking down a hall, she seems to be the one who picks up said axe.

This article will cover the science fiction stars who died in 2022. Their talents may be lost to us, but they'll forever retain their position amongst the stars — where they belong.
